@41tinman41
@41tinman41 3 жыл бұрын
I would think they’d add a drawback to remove it being OP. Maybe using your sword that way decreases sharpness which means less damage. While swords rarely break, they do decrease in damage if used too much without sharpening. Another side quest sees you assisting a blacksmith and the reward is being able to assess your equipment to know if they need repair. You use materials to repair weapons and armor, as well as improve them.
@OtakuUnitedStudio
@OtakuUnitedStudio 3 жыл бұрын
@@41tinman41 More likely that it would reduce durability, given that they have that as a core mechanic. I like the idea of weapons simply losing damage but it really doesn't incentivize looking for new weapons, since it would mean you'd have a full inventory but only ever use one or two.

I'm not super familiar with any other examples, but in this instance I'd say he was absolutely right. Even if for example lightning attracting to metal objects being carried by someone may not be realistic, it's intuitive and understandable, and also makes for an interesting gameplay feature. Stabbing a rock with a sword is a bit ridiculous, and would also remove any real challenge with climbing. I'm sure there's more to it than what's explained in the video but in my personal opinion some of the best moments in BOTW were when you were so close to reaching the top of a cliff with your stamina blinking red. That sword mechanic wouldn't have just been a bit far fetched, but also it would've removed that tension you felt from a gameplay perspective. I'd imagine if I can recognize that surely Miyamoto could as well.

@@diggsj0536 Games can be many things. They can be stories, art, social spaces, sports, games, toys, or experiences. However, Miyamoto sees every game like its a toy: something that needs to have a short, unique gimmick. He can't see them as anything more. Its like back then when developers felt every game was an esport so they forced multiplayer. Miyamoto sees video games as just toys and its dangerous as his intervention can prevent other developers who see games as potentially other things from making their vision. Hes like an art critic who enters an art gallery and bashes the art for not conforming to his narrow world view.

Ironically I recall when this game came out in 2017 some people (namely it seemed mainly people who hold A Link to the Past or Ocarina of Time as their favorite Zelda) bashed this game for not being enough like the older games, including the soundtrack going for a more limited use of instruments as I recall at least one person going "I wanted a full 100 person orchestra playing the Kakariko Village theme, not one guy on a piano." The two I remember the most were JonTron (his initial twitter posts about the game had him complaining and saying he just went back to playing Ocarina on his 3DS, though to be fair he said he later went back to it witht he mindset to treat it more like a survival game and he was enjoying it more), and Mike Matei, aka James Rolfe's best friend (though more so his livechat when he was streaming the game, I recall the chat was full of people going "game's boring, fuck this shit, I wanted another Twilight Princess" and whatnot).
