Nobody ever spoke to me before my surgery. I never saw the anesthesiologist or surgeon. It was my very first surgery ever and I was terrifies of anesthesia and being cut open. Most of all, I don't remember anything from pre-op to recovery. That kind of amnesia scares me. All I remember about recovery is a very sore throat almost swollen shut and couldn't swallow and chest pains every time I took a breathe. I didn't see the OR at all, so I must have been heavily drugged beforehand. Then finding myself catherised (which I did not want) and ag tube which I NEVER agreed to. They did all this when I was unconscious and I'm furious. A friend referred me to a good medical malpractice law firm.

I love that you addressed the trust issue between Pt. And Dr. (Thank you, Linda!) I had a procedure during my early adulthood and I was then inexperienced with medical procedures. I have a HUGE needle phobia. I was at a Military hospital. There was a hospital tour arranged and I met the doctors who were on my case and would be in the OR with me. I was especially nervous about anesthesia. I met the anesthesiologist, he seemed great and my fears were slightly abated. However, on the day of surgery, there was a NEW (to me) anesthesiologist that had replaced the one I met. This Dr. Began walking towards me and I began climbing up the back of the gurney. I caused a panic. I feel awful about that. The doctor was great, he stopped moving and put his hands up. He spoke calmly and instructed staff to get something for my nerves before he introduced himself again. (I had already had the IV placed - which is the worst part of anything for me.) I was so raw. I appreciate this man’s attention to where I was at that time. I don’t know if I reacted to the change of doctors since I had expectations of which doctor would be there or if I may have reacted the same way with either. I wish I could find the “replacement” doctor today. I’d like to explain my reaction and thoughts of appreciation now that I can reflect at a MUCH older age.

If you know the dictors name - you might search through licensing boards or Google their name. There are online search boards "find a doctor...." Good luck.

@@marystewart1746 I know the doctor who performed the procedure but not the anesthesiologist. Perhaps I can Google through that! Thank you so much for the advice!

Wow, thank you for sharing that vivid experience. That is so powerful because it shows the impact our expectations have on our minds and bodies, in particular in stressful and potentially frightening situations. How was the recovery for that surgery?
@brandywine4000 Жыл бұрын
@@MedicalSecrets I did struggle a bit with the recovery, but this surgery came with a reward as it was the birth of my daughter. I did not have the time to focus on my own recovery the way a typical surgery goes when only one person leaves the operating table. 😉 I have had four abdominal surgeries-the recovery process has always been a bit tedious but I think the worst recovery was from a broken ankle (both bones.)

Should’nt a patient be told when a trainee or fellow is doing the surgery with the senior surgeon is responsible in the or before to give consent?
@MedicalSecrets Жыл бұрын
Yes they should, and I believe they are on the consent forms. Is that not your experience?

The same thing happened to me. My first surgery ever and I wasn't informed of a damn thing. I was scared and nobody cared. I will take some form of action and will never never have surgery again as long as I live. ☹️☹️☹️☹️

I have a scheduled hysterectomy coming up. I’m extra worried, because I have heart problems, irregular heartbeats and afib. Does my heart stop beating on its own?

The struggle for the words …. A ladder in? No… though I’m not able to say correctly what was meant and question in regards has emerged. Where does the witness go when put under?
@MedicalSecrets Жыл бұрын
Sorry, I don't follow the question
@robinorrubyyesthatsme5094 Жыл бұрын
The witness doesn’t leave your side it’s called an anesthesiologist who holds your life in his hands. I wish Dr. Kaveh was in Massachusetts when I needed him 😊
