That area is not designed for those activities. The kid can go to other places on the mountain. That zone has a high number of collisions and less skilled riders. Kid landed and was already to close to the skier downhill and was out of control.

Sure it's federal land but it's leased from the government for Vail Resorts to manage as a ski resort. On a run inbounds at a privately run ski resort the management and their authorized delegates have the authority to detain and talk to anyone they want. This consent would have been given as part of what was signed for the lift pass. The parents would have signed something acknowledging this authority. Gotta read the fine print. I'm sure his parents would be mighty upset if his pass, that they paid big bucks, got pulled for for being belligerent.

@@TheyForcedMyHandLE actually yes, “mountain safety” is literally like the cops, they even have ticket quotas too I never give them the time of day or my pass “Can I see your pass?” “I don’t have a pass, I hike up and ride down” Then there is fuck all the mountain safety guy can do unless he plans to follow me all day which I know he can’t. It’s public lands, can’t ban you from it, all they can do is restrict my access to their lifts… if they get my lift pass which they won’t I’ll either just go home for the day or go to the lodge and have a couple beers before going to another part of the mountain No shot in hell I’m handing my $1000+ season pass to anybody

That poor kid! He had plenty of vision over the crest of that, it wasn’t at all blind, the kid was in control, not going too fast, and able to instantly stop….AND HE BARELY JUMPED!! You can simply HOP higher on skies. That’s HARDLY the kind of high speed jumping they are probably attempting to stop. (By big kids going 49’s as fast) I’d have given that ski patrol an ear full. @Jack Sheridan Whilst I agree with you it is the responsibility of the uphill skier to avoid an accident, it is in the resorts interest to maintain safety because 1) It's bad publicity if there are a lot of accidents at a particular resort potentially resulting in lost business; and 2) If the resort is poorly managed ,which includes having a lot of safety issues or public complaints, the federal government can revoke their lease on the land.

Ski patrol once took my season pass. He seemed to have forgotten that we parked right next to each other in the lot but I didn't. I popped all of his tire valve stems out (I keep a fully stocked tool chest in my truck) and then replaced the cap. Flat tires that aren't damaged are a hell of a conundrum to figure out, and usually requires back and forth trips to and from the vehicle and shop to figure it out.
