I have dug them out of half dried mud no water nothing. ( In Australia ) and they were fine. I used to keep them in a pond and they would walk maybe 50-100 meters away if they felt like it

Great video guys thanks!! Toon, great commentary!!! I did commercial crabbing on and off for 30 years and your comments makes it much more realistic when you get pinched! Especially with blue crab. Those little bastards know exactly where the hole is starting on your gloves and they know where pinched over the last few days or so has resulted in a particularly painful little infection!!! I think by the time I stopped I could go on forever with only using maybe 20 words. 😁

Where do the male crayfish live?
@TLFarm2 жыл бұрын
The majority of them are going on in our outside pond.
@drpk65143 жыл бұрын
I hope that algae biofilm over the surface of the water wouldnt reduce the oxygen in the water. If they die and start to wrot they would definitely affect the oxygen content of the water. They might be growing because the nitrogen material in the water is getting high.

It seems to have appeared after we introduced a tiny floating weed a while back. Although its not harmed the crayfish, we'd prefer not to have it so it'll be going the next time we empty the tank 😉

The mud pond it fed from underground water all year round. Rainy season it'll rise to about 4m & in the depths of a long dry season it'll drop to about 1.25m. We don't run any water or air pumps in the pond. Hope that helps buddy.

Great update 👍 Just a thought, you know the tank with the oily slick on top of the water, do you think it might come off the pellet you throw in there? Reason I say, I’m a fisherman and use pellet a lot in my feed and most pellets are filled with some sort of oil, so maybe that could be the cause once the pellet broken down if not eaten in time, or gives the crayfish oily poo, I’m no expert, just a passing thought. Looking forward to an update big fish report in the main lake 😁
@TLFarm3 жыл бұрын
Endy you just triggered a Carping Flashback - I remember seeing those telltale signs of fish feeding on halibut pellets & partical mixes with a few drops of vegetable oil mixed in. I thought the same thing as you but mystified why it only occurs in 2 of the bowls. I feed each bowl about 7-10 pellets every 2 nights, unless there's any left uneaten, then they get nowt. Could well be oily crayfish poop lol. Missing nights in my old Nash bivvy now 🤔

Is it bad for the mother and hers eggs if I move her in to a new tank with fresh water? Or do I have to change the water slowly?
@TLFarm Жыл бұрын
We change the water about once every two weeks for our pregnant crayfish. As long as there's no sudden change in water temperature they're fine. Taking care that the drop 'flip' about is important also. Once any eggs become dislodged from the abdomen they won't make it.
@Sir.IamMaybe Жыл бұрын
