If you’re curious why breeders chose back to back breeding: It’s actually more beneficial to the female to do back to back breeding. Dogs don’t shed the inner lining of their uterus unless it’s “cleared out” with a litter of puppies. Skipping a heat can produce a whole host of issues. Pyometra is one of many, but a big concern. Just thought I’d offer some insight as to why this is the safest option. ☺️

I am a veterinarian, not a reproductive specialist. It used to be believed that giving females a period of rest between breeding was best recommendation. However, this has changed. It is now recommended that if the female had an easy pregnancy, delivery and recovery from the prior litter that there is no reason to not breed on the heat cycle immediately after a prior litter. The more heat cycles a dog has that go without puppies, it does increase the risk for a pyometra to develop. There are of course other factors that go into pyometra development, but keeping the uterus "open" (without puppies) more frequently than not, increases that risk some. This doesn't mean if you never breed your dog but leave her unspayed that she will develop a pyometra, that is not necessarily case, just that the risk is there and maybe increases slightly. This is newer information as it was not the typical recommendation until more recently, so it takes time for that general mindset to change/update. Hopefully those comments about "is it too soon" will start to decrease as more people learn the up to date recommendations.

My mini goldendoodle came from a litter that was dual sired. All of the eight puppies that were born all have the same father although three of the eight look similar and the other five look very similar.Lol when the DNA testing came back the dog that Sired first fathered ALL of the dogs.

I have a question! When the puppies have two fathers, on the papers for the puppy, how exactly do you put three parents? Is it as simple as putting three parents? Any dogs, not just yours, haha. This is probably a dumb question, but I was really curious.

There are still only two parents. Sometimes it will be all the same father. Sometimes there will be two different fathers. Or it could come out they all have the same father. They don't cross.

Breading back to back is actually becoming more popular as it’s healthier for the bitch. Apparently when it comes to their reproductive organs it’s best to “use it or loose it”. When adults have a period our body goes “oh there’s no baby this time” so sheds the lining etc and our bodies go back to normal again. With dogs apparently the brain doesn’t get told that info so for the whole season and months after it “thinks” it’s gota support puppies which is why phantom pregnancies are so common. I’d never heard this until recently but it makes total sense. Our bitch looses so much weight when in season and the month or two after and then starts to slowly gain again and I had another bitch years ago (different breed) do the same thing. X
