I love watching you two. And I don't even stitch samplers!!! I do have a question for you though. You are always showing so many linens. I don't have a local LNS so I have a hard time choosing linen. I prefer a tight weave and can't tell from the pictures whether it is tight or loose. Would you please share with me some of the linens you use that are a tight weave? Thank you so much.
@brendaandtheserialstarter2410 Жыл бұрын
Thank you Sheryl! This is Laura here.....off the top of my head when I think of a tight weave I think of Picture this Plus. Also, I think of Fox and Rabbit and Cedar River Linen and Design. But all of this is pretty subjective. Will try to remember to discuss on floss tube....

Tips I learned for stitching with white, Nancy. Yes, you MUST separate the threads if you are working with two strands. Coming up in an empty hole could also help. I have found that loosening up on my tension has helped in some situations, too. My last resort has been to try using a laying tool. Hope some of these help. Happy Stitching! 😁👍🏼

I was so surprised to see you again today. I went with the Hubby on a business trip the first part of February and I'm still trying to catch up on Floss Tube. Always enjoy seeing you. Love the HATS "Jane Harth 1868". It's going to be a new acquisition soon. I did get a giggle from the person putting her finished pieces up on a quilt ladder. I stitch in my library and look at 16 feet of book cases. Last year I hung my first finish from one of the shelves and then proceeded to add a dozen more. I took them down when I decorated for Christmas/winter and have really missed looking at them. Haven't had a finish yet this year so may get them out and replace as I finish this year. Or just leave them all up as an inducement to do a final finish on them. Working on a couple of Blackbirds and they have been fun stitches.

Love your cuckoo clock. It always chimes at the most opportune moment. I plan to stitch my stash this year. So far I haven’t gotten any new patterns. I have printed out a few freebies, though. Currently I’m stitching some Easter and Spring smalls. As always a very inspiring floss tube.

My first thought when I saw the Cuckoo Bird Sampler was wouldn't that look beautiful in blue!! I just ordered it and 3 other patterns. I already placed 3 orders with Colorado Cross Stitch. Every year I say I'm not ordering any new releases. Who am I kidding? Loved the video! Happy stitching.

So lovely to see and hear your antics. Yes, I’m on the East coast of oz and the latest parcel tracking for the magical red box says it is still in the UK. Until next time. Take care. 🇦🇺

@@brendaandtheserialstarter2410 oh yes! Sure did. So excited but haven’t seen much more about it. Do we start them? In any specific order and all together as a SAL? Of course I still haven’t kitted them up yet, but soon, very soon and I don’t think I can wait to start much longer. What about you two?

@@brendaandtheserialstarter2410 oh yes, so excited when I saw it pop up in my feed. My LNS is a little store a few thousand kms away in Tasmania but we spoke yesterday about substitute fabrics, 100.3 and SALS for the charts. I’d love a soft fabric folder that has multiple small project folders within it to hold all the kitted up ‘Letters’ charts/starts together. I’ve attached little felt pads to the bottom of the box and I’m dreaming up all sorts of things to do with it. 🙄🤣 How blessed are we to be able to partake of this craft and the fellowship of stitchers. See you at your next video. ❤️🇦🇺

Loved your mom’s questions. I had seen on another floss tube or two about always separating strands. Now I do. February I did work on smalls also. Sometimes you just have have to change it up.

Hello Girls!! Enjoyed watching your show today. Thank you for sharing your haul of fabrics. I do not have a local cross stitch shop in are area. I have been purchasing white evenweave online then tea dying it myself. Brenda!! the box that you purchased on ebay is magnificence!! I love shopping antiques. I am a collector of antique sewing notions and anything related to stitching. I feel like I am rescuing someone's treasures. Something that they stitched to comfort them. My mom passed away when I was 19. I could never part with her sewing collection. Laura you are so blessed to have your mom. I love hearing about your relationship with your mom. It sounds like you have so much in common. Brenda and Laura you are so blessed to have such a wonderful stitching friendship. I can't wait to see what is in your red boxes from Nicola. Thank you for taking the time to share!! Brenda from Northern California

Brenda - Treenway silks have been a staple in the embroidery world since the late 1990s. Judith Baker Montano was an instrumental teacher in bringing silk to cross stitchers and needlework enthusiasts. Ms. Montano also has an excellent book on needlework stitches and other beautiful books on stitching. There is a brief history on the company on their website. They are well known for quality, dye-fast threads at numerous weights.

Laura. I agree with your mom about DMC white. Somehow it seems to be a little crinkly. After separating and rejoining the floss, try running it through a moist sponge. Fold the sponge in half and pull the floss through the fold. It will dry in a second. I do this when I am smocking and it makes the strands smooth, and they lay nicely on the fabric.

Great time with you two today!!. Your mom's question....floss has a nap (like velvet has a nap) and you can feel that it is softer in one direction than the other. When you separate your thread you need to make sure you put those threads back together in the same direction. This has an effect on your coverage. I always thread my needle with the nap going down whether I am using two ply or one. I was taught about the nap when I made english smocked dresses for my daughters when they were little girls.

Oh wow! That is important information Christine! I am going to take a screen shot of that so I remember! Thank you!

Nap is one of the first things they teach in EGA Embroiderers Guild of America) classes. Nap is why EGA always said the loop method for starting a thread is a no-no. Sometimes, you "just gotta use it!" :)
