Jimmy Page : "There was quite a buzz in the Number Two Studio at Decca as Brenda Lee was the first American to come to the Decca studio and try their luck at recording in England. ‘Is It True’ gave me a good opportunity to employ a DeArmond tone pedal. The musicians definitely gave it their collective best that day." tinyurl.com/tg724gk

Brenda wasn't able to kick ass because he had to be the cute girl next door here. In England she could do her thing for real. And until the Beatles, America was pretty dumb when it came to some of the REAL music that came out of our own country. Just because it was the "wrong color" for mass market radio. It was bullshit. Throw racism out the window - those cats from the 40s and 50s who formed the foundation of rock n roll had great, great music that everyone lost out on.

Your list looks comprehensive so it could well have been Walthamstow Granada. Both venues are in East London and we attended their concerts regularly; including two Beatles tours in 1963. They were third on the bill at East Ham to Chris Montez and Johnny Tillotson before topping the bill at Walthamstow a few months later. Brenda was the best live act that I saw in the sixties. She came on like a little doll but by the time she left the stage she was covered in perspiration and her bouffant hairdo was all over the place. Sounds incorporated were an excellent backing group with Major West playing the Boots Randolph Saxophone breaks exuberantly. This is the group that opened for the Beatles when they toured the USA

Henry Byrd : According to an interview with Bobby Graham elsewhere on KZbin, this version was a recording of the musicians goofing around while they were waiting for some studio equipment to be fixed. As it happened, the gear was fixed and the producer said record while they were jamming. This turned into a one take B side, so it’s not as if much time was spent on the arrangement.
@MostlyBrenda6 жыл бұрын
