I know what the answer is: change the laws to the ones that existed pre 1993. The truth of the matter is that rugby union has turned into a game not dissimilar to rugby league. I had a conversation with some other older ex-players about this yesterday. There was, in effect, less contact and less head contact with the way the game was played before. There was more kicking, more line outs (who got hurt in a line out? no one!), more space for backs, no defensive lines! The game has become one of brute force against brute force!

The safs have had their test cricket hollowed out by the BCCI over the last decade by reducing the number of tests SA plays. And the IPL is the financial backer of the SA 20 series. It’s been hugely profitable as well. So speak to the BCCI.

Then there's what, no tackling? No, just go back to the old laws. Yes, the game would be slower than today. So what? Barry John played under the old laws and was brilliant. Why? There was space and no defensive lines!

Geez Brendan you still talk abject bollacks practically about the rugby in the early 70's .Barry John was pretty good but no where near Dan Carter. His sample size is to small. Just for the record NZ was trying to rebuild after the SA series (which was lost due to shocking officiating) I watched that whole tour very closely and attended 2 tests and the Canterbury match . Bob Burgess in my view had the better of John on at least 2 occasions(he only played 2 tests because he was ruled out injured after the 2nd Test). As good as that Welsh team was they have endured 70 years since their last success against NZ .

@@MurrayLeckie I'm Scottish but you forgot Llanelli in 1973. Dan Carter was a class act.

@@charliemiddleton3755 Llanelli is a club team and as far as I know they are still celebrating. As far as I know Scots are Brits too. Wales played NZ from 1969 to 1980 6 times with in their words their greatest era and lost them all .

@@MurrayLeckie Yeah, and a few bad calls by referees helped the All Blacks win some of those tests!
