Solid content as usual. Is great that you adress Sumo style deadlifts being a Conventional Puller. I feel ya in not being able to handle sumo in your hips, I pull much more with Sumo but on the lockout my adductor (insertion) always feels weird or even hurts. Gotta build that conventional pull

agree the hardest thing about sumo is co-ordinating hip extension and knee extension and external hip rotation off the floor as well as tight upper back and tight lats

Good points! Ed Coan always highlighted why he always seem to wiggle (I dont know if that the right term haha) before pullin. He said it was to bring his hip a bit closer to the bar. By that I think it is the way he cue to open up his hip Thank you for clarifying about the benefit of it!

I’m doing your glute program for the second time this year. My hips are starting to hurt already and it’s week 2 but the results are so good. What is the link to the program you just released?

Brendan do you think some sumo pullers would be stronger with some rounded back deadlift? I can actually lock out much higher weight than my 1RM but really weak off the floor. If I succesfully keep my back rigid(which I try), I make my lift much weaker.

Yes actually i do! However I’d still train neutral back until late intensity blocks!אריק סבג

אריק סבג I think I have read somewhere that it is okay to pull slightly rounded as long as your back is not rounding DURING the pull(or rounding further). As long as you maintain the rigidity/tension during the pull

Brendan Tietz Awsome, thanks for the reply! Would you cue the lifter to get into rounded back position?

Hey Brendan, I know this video is a year old, but I just have a question so I hope you see this. What are some good cues that I can use for the first point in the video about keeping a rigid torso? For a cue like "chest up", would you think chest forward, or chest straight up to the ceiling? When trying to keep a rigid spine I usually overextend/have rib flare, so I was wondering about the specifics of that concept.

Awesome video Brendan. Your videos are quality. Just wondering if you prefer starting the sumo deadlift more maximally external rotated vs. externally rotating as the bar breaks the floor? Do some lifters just gravitate towards one or the other, or do you think one style is better than the other?

Brendan Can you analyze the technique of yury belkin and Dimitry Nasonov?

AWESOME content as usual. Question: since you naturally have very externally rotated hips, why do find yourself being a conventional puller instead of a sumo puller? Do you think it's because of body proportions or something else?

Lindsey ROSS ASICS matflex wrestling shoes! They’re amazing for pulls and the best imo although I haven’t tried the Reebok powers and I’ve heard good things

Hey Brendan great vid. I’m 6’5” and used to be able to do conventional but as I got older turning 40 soon) it seems conventional is a problem now so I have switched to sumo. However it seemed even with that proper form had my feet to wide so I have brought my feet in some between conventional and sumo. It feels perfect for me but from a technique standpoint do you see any issue with this?

Yeah man as long as positioning is sound and movement is strong and safe you’re golden! Not all sumo pullers are wide. Just look at the GOAT ed coan. Imo still the best of all time. Yuri beat his record on a deadlift bar and 24 hour weigh in with the long rest of our modern flight system. Don’t think ed was doing much wrong there :)

How do you know if you should pull sumo of conventional for your body type?
@abraxis20
@abraxis20 6 жыл бұрын
There are online guides involving measuring limb and torso lengths, but generally if you have short arms for your height and a long back like I have, sumo feels better. Long legged people with average or short arms also often find sumo better,
@TiberiusStorm
@TiberiusStorm 6 жыл бұрын
I have short arms and a long torso as well. I had someone tell me that it meant I was not suited for Sumo but it sounds like they were wrong. I do have difficulty figuring out how wide to space my feet on Sumo though.
@abraxis20
@abraxis20 6 жыл бұрын
Spacing of the feet is very much trial and error, although going very wide will be hard on most people's hips. Somewhere near the rings seems to be the sweet spot for most people starting out.

I read that your knees should be stacked over your ankles so I'll try that next time. I'm switching between Conventional and Sumo every other day at the gym.

at which weight mark can i use straps for barbell rows?
@BrendanTietz
@BrendanTietz 6 жыл бұрын
Iago Borges not sure if a troll but if not whenever you need! However keep in mind that means less grip strength. Usually more back activation. If you deadlift and have grip problems I wouldn’t often. If not and you want back activation use them!
