This is so cool, seeing Mark, a guy we know is strong AF, learning a technique that he looks very uncomfortable with, but being genuinely open about his feeling powerless, that's witnessing real strength and humility. Seeing greatness, in the hands of a legend. Remains me of the old adage, iron strengthens iron. Very cool, thank you gentlemen for what you do.

Horse From Hell Rack pulls have their place... it's not for technical or even strength but for confidence mostly and CNS stimulation. I like to rack pull over 100% of my deadlift max for a peak. Liao Hui did an 880lb front rack hold for 3s and the dude weighs 155lb. There has also been russian olympic weightlifters I've seen pull from blocks (the 2014 super heavyweight worlds champion did a 220kg snatch from blocks.)

What I like about Mark is that instead of just doing what Coan says and ending up in a position where he couldn't pull half of his max, he actually says if he feels weak and wants to work with Coan to fix this. So many sumo form videos like Omar's for example, they instruct the lifter into this obviously weak stance and the lifter says nothing about it.

It might not just be his mobility it could be hip structure and angle of joint insertion. That's why people most likely feel pain. Kstars stuff isn't meant to adhere to all individuals I think he says to consult a medical professional before starting self mobility exercises in his books.

This was actually really interesting in terms of how lack of mobility makes some people stray away from trying sumo stance, because they are able to activate less muscles and would have less strength. I never considered that rack pulls would be useless because your leverages would be different- stronger lockouts and glutes would have carryover to your sumo lockout, even if its in a different stance, no?
