@@bigsweetc6 Yeah, many stores are doing it, and like Brendon said, those are the same stores that will be scratching their heads wondering why sales are down and people aren’t buying anything and asking why they’ve gotta shut the doors down.

Took (4) used records to the famous Vintage Vinyl about 4 years ago before they closed and they offered me $8.....I said no thanks and took the same records to Looney Tunes on Long Island the next day and they offered me $55! What a difference and needless to say, they have now gained my business regularly. I do want to visit Sound Exchange next time I pass through that area. Anthony seems like a truly fair dude.

Support your local record stores and buy music in physical form. I know that money is tight for many of us these days and you can get music cheaper online often but still at least go and buy at your local record store sometimes too and support them that way. It's a sad day if we come to that stage that there won't be any record stores left.

All second hand record stores lean on desperate people who sell mint copies from big names and get 1$ for each cd buddy.

@@knownpleasures Very true bro. That's why they all dying really. Don't get me wrong love these guys video but when Brandon mentioned most have no time to look around for deals at thrifts, ect,,,wrrrong. He has 12000 cd so the rush is mostly gone. But for all of us who average hundreds of cds maybe few thousands because we! listen to actually our cds and know them all. We always find deals in thrifts mostly trend music because the ones who donate cds are mostly radio people. But at 50 cents to 1 buck a cd(Canadian here) of course it worth to have half a day a week or s going around. Hey I used to spend 300-400$ every weekend on nightlife. So whats is an half day to look around for deals. You will notice that most of these second hand cds shops quality is so so. Everything I buy is pristine only. If I want to sell someday then I know it will, Sorry long text here, strong coffee,,, Cheers man

I do I own over 5000 cds but can careless its just collecting I listen to my good 800ish collection every week. But I bought the other 1000s at 2-3$ a cd. Anthony seems like a real good dude! I would say that i personally think he doesn't have ANY need to substantiate his pricing especially when i know how slim the margins are on new music, CD's or vinyl. From your many videos shot in the store with him, it looks like he runs a really well curated and stocked store. I wish there was such a store where I live. Rock on guys!

Great transparency in this video. There's definitely built-in value in organization - walking into a well-organized record shop, and finding the EXACT title you're looking for within minutes. If you're lucky you might find the same title at a thrift on the right day at the right time, but it could take a half a day of sifting thru crap at multiple thrifts to find it (I've done just that). Time is money.

At HMV in the UK, there are many Vinyl Records that get sold for 3 for £55 and on many different genres and artists, some that haven't been out long and they get added to it, which is fine, but sometimes it can get a bit excessive with what albums you want. However, I also bought albums on Vinyl that I sometimes buy brand new at £25, and after a few months that it's gone up by £5, and it annoys me when they do that, but I have my copy already. At HMV as well, sometimes you get CDs at reasonable prices, sometimes adding newer CDs at 2 for £16 and getting CD box sets for £15 or whatever, and sometimes new artists release their debut albums on CD for lower prices than normal new albums and that drives me crazy, however and I have seen some Compilation Albums being at £5, even new compilation albums released and it drives me crazy as well, but then again it how it sells. Some new releases are around £12-15 when they used to be £10 or less back then.

I want to buy new vinyl from my local stores, but I just cant when amazon has it for 10-15 bucks cheaper! I am glad you mentioned that back in the 80s everything was priced the same. New records/cds/cassettes were the same price no matter the artist or what album it was!!! WHY in the world can this not happen today?????? what was different back then that they could do that???? PLUS back then, when something didnt sell, we got it at reduced prices!! NOT NOW!! WHY???

My girlfriend and I collect vinyls and I came across this video and it's amazing! I really appreciate what you and Anthony talked about with the whole "collectors" situation when it comes to vinyls. I collect wrestling magazines, and I am finding the same problem with buying them online now. People think because a wrestling magazine is from 1991 it should be $50 plus $25 shipping. No, it should be $10 max with minimum shipping costs. People are just out to get so much money off collectors now that it makes it almost impossible to enjoy collecting, or may even drive you out of collecting all together. If people want vinyls, magazines, or whatever you are selling to move and for ya to make money, sell at a reasonable price!

Getting music into people's hands, especially turning them onto something new has got to be so enjoyable. A question for the next (I hope of many) video for Anthony. When he purchases a collection does he go through and clean every CD and vinyl album? How many in the store take on that task? To follow up on pricing. Does Anthony have non-employee "experts" help him price larger collections? Thank you!! Leigh

Thats the price to pay for being independant instead of moving on with a franchise. Then you pay way less. Here in Canada at Sunrise Record(was Hmv years ago) We are the only store and franchises in Canada selling cds and records and other music store average gadgets in Canada. Last month the last Sam the Record man in the country was closing. We pay 10$ for cd and very often way less, doubles we pay 12$ and records we pay 15$. So each album cd or record bring at least 10$ profit. I mean i know in the states leases are dirt cheap but here just in a 50 000 population town an average 600-700 sf commercial lease cost in average 4 to 6000$ a month. In a major city downtown average 8 to 15 000$ a month. In upper area of the downtown core 100-120$ a squarefoot.. Our store is located in the beautiful Kelowna BC Canada. 120 000 population and we are in a mall with a 1500 squarefoot at 28 000$ a month. We average 1500$ a day in sale plus one employee on the floor only each day.

Now every record purchase has to be this big consideration, it being this expensive is not why I got into this hobby in the first place.
