There are two farmer video channels I watch the minute they post. One is a dairy farmer in PA and of course you. While your operations are very, very different, you both think alike. You both talk about what works for you and how you make choices on everything based on what you have learned. this cart is so big and for you there are so many good features. It was beautiful watching Erik and you moving through harvest as this smoothly running combination. Even with the things that happened, like the broken track, things just kept moving along. ( following you time with Niki and things there. hoping and praying that her treatments are going smoothly with little discomfort or side effects. by the say, on Amazon, you can by reusable stainless steel straws, just have to wash them, and they are better than paper... )

Hello guys, First off, I really like your videos so definitely keep it up! Hoping for the best for Nicole right now. When you talked about the compaction though, I have to disagree to a certain extent with the sales rep. After all, his job is to sell equipment and not to be soil scientist. The 16psi number that he gave you isn't (entirely) correct. Mathematically his logic checks out, but that is assuming that the entire weight of the grain cart is distributed evenly across the tracks, which it isn't. All of the weight is applied to tracks via the 2 main drive weels at either ends of the tracks and the bogey wheels in between (the loose track between doesn't carry much weight). Pressure on the soil under these wheels can spike immensely, still causing a lot of compaction. The reason the cart floats so well and doesn't get bogged down is one of the advantages of tracks, and also the reason it's used on tanks: in wet conditions, the drive- and bogey wheels will sink in slightly, causing the loose bits of track in between these to come under tension, which in turn causes these bits of track to carry more and more as the bogey wheels sink in further. These two effects of the bogey wheels sinking in and the loose bits of track coming under tension counteract each other, making your cart or anything else with tracks float better. I hope you understand my reasoning and I would love to know what you guys think! Thanks!
