For those unaware, during the filming of Nemisis, Levar Burton was a contender to be director. When Paramount turned him down and gave it to a guy who had never directed anything, he repeatlidy kept calling Levar "Levern".

How come its always the comedic actors that play serious, emotionless characters? Brent Spiner is a goofball. Tim Russ (Tuvok) is also a complete jokester.

I think Data does have a certain aura of humor about him, what with his blatantly naïve nature. There are many times where he will unknowingly (as a character) do something hilarious.

I get the impression that Spiner's act here was inspired by decades of interacting with solipsistic fans.
@Maphisto869 жыл бұрын
+Micah Schweitzer There is a video here on KZbin of Spiner crashing a DS9 panel featuring Rene Auberjonois and Armin Shimerman. Brent asks them a question from halfway or so back in the room about the transporters. He asked them whether it was real or "just some kind of effect".

Damn a two year old comment I really want to comment on and talk to the OP. In the vein hope that Micah is still receiving notifications to this, Can you tell me more about Solipsistic? I've looked up the dictionary definition (I'm really trying to improve my vocabulary after years of neglect) So my question is how do these people interact? Are they the argumentative type who try and say everything someone else says is wrong? Or have an immediate negative reaction when you try and suggest something new to them?
@SamCarvajal4 жыл бұрын
@@burgersbeansandchips "In the *_vain_* hope". Vein is for talking about precious metals, the veins within animals - things of that vein. The secondary definition of _vain_ according to google is "producing no result; useless". I'm no expert and had to look up the meaning of solipsistic myself but my gut understanding is that individuals acting in this manner often lack the ability to tell when they're overstepping in social situations while insisting upon receiving an answer to question(s) that may only be tangentially related to the context of the moment. Solipsistic as defined by Merriam-Webster is ": of, relating to, or characterized by solipsism or extreme egocentricity". Someone who is argumentative and close-minded might be considered solipsistic, especially if they displayed other egocentric behaviors. My gut understanding of "solipsistic" in the context used here is linked to someone with mental illness or alternatively someone who isn't neurotypical and can't easily pick-up on social queues.
