Shawn Michaels has a lot of respect for Bret Hart. In his goodbye speech to the WWE fans on the Raw following his final match at WrestleMania 26 Shawn thanked the fans, his parents, his coworkers, etc but he only thanked three people specifically by name. Those three people were Vince McMahon, Triple H, and Bret Hart.

Very true. Tear trickling down his cheek as he firmly stated that he wants to thank Bret and how he felt bad about his actions in the ‘90s and his gratitude that Bret believed he had finally changed. 100% mutual respect, even with all that massive baggage. Bret was also there to shake his hand and give him words of support after his “final match” with Undertaker. The real issue in this entire saga, truth be told, was the ugly and heartless nature of the business itself. That latter part hasn’t really changed.

@@explodev2550 While pro wrestling is scripted, it is still very competitive. Being number 1 means more than just a title. It means top earnings, it means having more input, it means being at the top of the pecking order, and EVERYONE wants that, and NOBODY wants to give it up. Why do you think Hogan rarely lost to a clean pinfall? While doing the job once in a while is a requirement, the higher you get in the business, the more sense it has to make in the mind of that wrestler, or there might be some pushback. That's why when guys get to the position Bret and Shawn were in, it's usually in their contract that they get so much say in the creative aspect of their storylines and matches. Bret and Shawn were neck and neck at the time, trying to be the main man. In each of their heads the only one standing in the way of that top position was the other. It wasn't necessarily about "winning" or the title; it was about what those things symbolized: being at the top. Just like any job that's highly competitive and there's only one promotion and two strong candidates. Bret and Shawn's rivalry had nothing to do with sportsmanship. It was political.

Bret's IQ was on another level to the wrestlers at the time. The types of moves and the way he told the story using his body elevated the entire industry. If you watch Wrestling in the 80's, it was 95% just kicking, punching, grappling and long over drawn holds. Bret only used those as setups for bigger moves and introduced so many new ideas in matches. He was my favourite Wrestler as a kid by far and gave me tremendous inspiration. He was a legitimate good guy and hero with nothing corny or superficial. Just a super cool and down to earth man. And he always had enormous respect and humility.

I have been very suspicious that Shawn wasn't being real and apologetic over the issues between Bret. It show's people do/can change for the good. Pleased that both have chosen to be professional and do what is right for themselves.

I adore and respect Bret Hart. He is a true gentleman, a 100% class act. His reputation among his fellow wrestlers is one of true admiration and respect. He and his baby brother Owen are rated in the Top 20 of the greatest WWE GOATs. Both men and brothers are well deserved of this class ranking. God bless Bret and Owen's families.

Shawn went on TV the night after rhe screwjob and buried Bret on the microphone after he promised Bret he wouldn’t do that. Then 2 weeks later in Raw Shawn announced that Bret is returning to the WWF that night to settle the Montreal matter once and for all. Bret Hart’s music played and out came a midget dressed up as Bret. Shawn put the midget in the Sharpshooter then Triple H put a WCW sticker on the midgets butt and kicked him out of the ring. Shawn didn’t have to do any of that. He did it because he hated Bret at the time. Shawn was a genuinely bad person at the time. Karma got him a couple of months later when he wrecked his back at the Royal Rumble.

That handshake on 4th January, 2010 might have been genuine, but it damn sure didn't _look_ like it: they both had expressions and demeanours that said, "We're doing this through gritted teeth for the cameras."

He should have let it go years earlier. It wasn't that big of a deal. I understand not liking him or working with him again but the obsession over a shoot finish to a worked match is ridiculous.

Goldberg kicked him in the head and caused Bret to not only have to end his a career. He also suffered a stroke. I don't remember how long after that happened. But the cause of the stroke was the result of Goldberg kicking him in the head. What Shawn did was scummy but what Goldberg did was worse.

@@freakshowfilmfestival3591 In a 2011 recorded interview with Bret and Shawn Bret asked Shawn why he didn’t reach out. Shawn said he was scared that if he called and Bret cursed him out over the phone any chance of them being friends again would be gone forever. Shawn thought as long as he leaves Bret alone there is a chance one day they could be friends again. It shows Shawn cared. In his goodbye speech to the WWE fans in 2010 on the Raw following his final match at Mania 26 he thanked the fans, his coworkers, his parents, etc. but he only thanked 3 people by name. Those three people were Vince McMahon, Triple H, and Bret Hart.

There's a reason why Bret Hart is the best there is, best there was, and best ever will be. Not only was he the best in the ring, but he has never changed his story. Because there was nothing to change. Bret Hart forever.

Bret told the truth. If Vince wasn't in the wrong, he would have been straight up to Bret. " Look Pal, I know you have reasonable creative control your last sixty days. But you are dropping it to Shawn, whatever personal issues you have is not reasonable to change my creative. Either do the job, or we will just sit you till you leave." Vince lied to Bret, Bret was very open about his feelings. Shawn was a dick to him back then. I'm glad Bret got to bury that hatchet. Hopefully he can bury it with Goldberg, Bischoff, and anyone else. I think Bret was always a guy kids could look up to. Not just Canadians. He wasn't perfect, he admitted to being a cheater on his wife, but his kids love him. I hope he's content, and will someday also bury the hatchet with Martha.

Many folks love to talk about “being professional” when it means others showing deference or respect to themselves, but forget that being professional also includes doing the job that you’re being paid to do (within ethical guidelines of course). Everyone in the situation was wrong, but Bret was wrong for preaching professionalism while being a blatantly insubordinate employee when push came to shove.

what he meant about being professional was not injuring his opponents in the ring. F***in' Goldberg was some huge monkey who didn't know how to wrestle, how to not hurt his opponent, you f***in' dummy.
