I know for a fact that people in the UK absolutely loved Bulldog and Bret equally. I was a kid during that match and me and all my friends were cheering for both of them. We were cheering no matter who won. Both loved still today.

Not just what Goldberg did…but Vince, hogan, etc. plus that’s all he’s ever asked about. People focus more on that shit in interviews, stuff like Owen and Montreal…rather than beating flair for the title, etc. with WWF and WCW, there was so much backstage politics involved that it was probably heartbreaking to have something you’ve loved doing your entire life be turned into a shit show. Bret's integrity for the sport as a spectacle and a 'contest' is what holds him in the upper echelons of greatness! He knew they could put together an amazing match, a match worthy of being last on the card despite it being an Intercontinental Title match. His ability to see things unfold, his imagination and then his ability to perform it....2nd to none, the guy was all class no matter what you think of him and the Hart family. Tough sport but they knew how to bring it all together. Amazing talent :)

Davey clearly had problems seeing he was made to drop the belt to Shawn almost immediately after that Summerslam win. Also, if you watch the match itself, Davey was gassed very early on and was blowing all the way through it. The high spot with Bret's plancha where he was supposed to catch him and didn't, highlighted perfectly that Davey was struggling on the night, but Bret was such a genius that he turned the botch into some modified reverse bulldog that looked so cool everyone thought it was deliberate. Bret nearly blew his knee out if you look at how his trailing leg got contorted, but the guy soldiered on to deliver a 5 star match. Bret marks? Just shut up man. If you dislike Bret so much, why are you even wasting your time watching his interviews??? Piss off then, I'm convinced you can't be a wrestling fan saying stupid shit like that.

Love the insight that you're on course to have a great match if the fans aren't sure who is going to win and that the long-term story is equally as interesting no matter who does; looking beyond protecting your "spot" benefits the whole card. Fans are going to come to see their favourites -- most people don't give up on their team if they lose, instead they watch again and keep rooting for them. When wrestling had more mystique you mainly had the character without as much real life stuff mingling with it (aside from personality informing how gimmicks landed on-screen), but then again the wrestlers weren't protected as well back then (despite Jesse Ventura's best efforts). It's a delicate balance -- you have a group of guys who have a livelihood as well as a legacy to consider. Bret will always be the GOAT in my book -- love for the art form combined with natural talent and work ethic shaped him into the best (for me) and the proof is in the matches.

I never understood why Vince would give Bret I think a 10-year deal or something like that but later come back and say that he couldn't honor it. I know WWF at the time was hitting a rough patch but before that happen, I would think Vince was doing really good to offer or give someone a 10-year deal. Would have been great if they could have worked out a smaller deal like 3 or 5-years and Bret stayed because WCW didn't use Bret right. I for one would have never had him align with the NWO unless maybe a swerve , Bret has always been his own man and only group he was in was his family stable. Bret should have stayed his own and a few people or friends join him to battle the NWO, or Bret joined the WCW side with Sting and DDP and such.

I am pretty sure that Rick Martel pinned Bret the same way when Strike Force successfully defended their tag team title belts against the Hart Foundation on the Main Event on February 5, 1988. But due to time constraints, the ending of that match was not televised, as the TV program ended about 30 seconds into the match. That was the same show that Andre beat Hogan for the WWF World Title due to the twin referee counting the pinfall on Hogan even though Hogan's shoulder was clearly up.

To see him give Davey credit here is really cathartic and nice. But I think we have to see Summerslam 92 as Davey's moment. Bret has always understood that an artist should always work with another artist in wrestling. I think his problem was that he was unable to accept that wrestling became an entertainment business rather than just artistry. Sometimes you can't make money unless you sacrifice a part of the art. Wrestlers used to be master choreographers, and that has unfortunately changed. Bret is truly one of the last of his kind.

Wrestlemania is always in early April! Maybe last day of March. Must have been afterwards. Repo Man was a minor Gimmick. Not to much for Davey to defend his title. 1992 was an awesome year. WWF, Music, Films and overall. The IC Title from Bret to Davey to Shawn. No year after they had an outstanding Roster anymore.

The first match with Owen was the best match I ever saw Bret in. The Bulldog match is a close second. There was just something about the way him and Owen worked together.

Perfect vs. Hart at Summerslam 1991 and Kibg of the Ring 93 are far better than that aeful match at Summerslam o2 which was ome of the worst Summerslam ppv's of the 90's.

Now realized Bret can pull off great matches despite losing: SummerSlam 1992, WM 12 (first-ever Iron Man match; 1996). Heck, add Screwjob too (Survivor Series 1997). Hunch telling me some wrestlers would sulk and not performing at best as their subtle protest for losing the title. In retrospect, Bret began his WWF/E career as a borderline jobber. He earned his keep, while turning top Superstars that time much better.

People only think about the drug problems Davey had because Bret keeps repeating it. But whether Bret realizes it or not, Davey wasn't dragging because of drugs. He had a very bad back problem and spent the night before at his parent's house bed ridden. Not partying all night with Jim Neidhart like Bret keeps saying. Davey obviously had his demons, but that match and that time it was his back not drugs that was holding him down. There is an interview with his daughter Georgia where she talks about that. @@J0HNJ0RDAN Bret has backtracked on that story quite a bit. Bret has since said many different versions. The truth? Bret guessed based on Davey's history of substance abuse because he couldn't get in touch with Davey the day or two before. Jim was out of it so he had no memory and Davey was trying to hide his injury so he didn't lose the biggest spot and payday of his career. Also, many members of the family have since said they saw Davey at his parent's house the days before. Not just Georgia.
