In the time between Bret signing this insane deal and Vince telling him: "I'm going to breach your contract and stop paying you. You are free to negotiate with Bischoff, try suing me over it and we'll tie each others' assholes up in court for decades," Brett would have earned over $1million more, had he taken WCW's deal. So if Vince had been upfront with him and not lied about how much he was willing to pay him and for how long, Brett would have been over a million dollars better off. I just like to put it like that, since it makes the extent to which Vince screwed him so abundantly clear.
@davidlewis5312

no but the follow up is even weird; he let's him talk to Bischoff, as the champion, doesn't get a match on the cards for Hart to drop the title to whoever for months, and even BLUFFS the value of the contract so Hart can get more out of Bischoff. And this is putting aside the fact that Vince knew exactly what he was paying for when he offered the contract in the first place. At what point did this series of events make sense in EITHER man's head?

@@davidlewis5312 Bret should of taken the deal with WCW to begin with and not gone back to WWF. It was for less dates and more money. He needed. to look out for himself at that point of his career. A lot of us fall in this trap of feeling some kind of loyalty to a employer that we probably shouldn't. We put the blinders on with our bosses thinking they are looking out for us when they really aren't. Bret was a good worker but had been very lucky to survive in the treacherous world of WWF back then.

I love this series. When Hart went to WCW it was a chance to do something huge. Imagine Hart and Sting taking on the nWo as two lone wolves with a common enemy. But Hogan did everything in his power to keep himself as WCWs one and only top draw, even past his prime. I genuinely believe had you got Hart treated properly, Nick Patrick counts that 3 fast and the nWo actually fucked off for a while WCW could have survived. They just atrophied and pissed away almost every opportunity they had to get back in the game.

April 1, 1996 - March 23, 1997 Shawn Michaels starts off the unofficial New Year as the NEW World Wrestling Federation Champion. Hall & Nash were about to exit the World Wrestling Federation for World Championship Wrestling. The following month's Curtain Call Incident on May 19 changed the course of WWF History forever. Shawn Michaels's 1st reign was undoubtedly the worst of his 3. Mankind's debut. The Ultimate Warrior screws over Vince. The banishment of Ted Dibiase and the birth of Austin 316 at KOTR 96. Triple H's slow rise to the top starts on October 21, 1996. Dwayne Johnson's debut as "Blue Chipper" Rocky Maivia at the Survivor Series. Faarooq returns now as the Leader of the Nation Of Domination. Sycho Sid becomes World Wrestling Federation Champion! The next 4 months would prove to be career-defining. The early stages of The Attitude Era would begin here.

Bret was loyal and dedicated to a fault. I can never understand why anyone can rightly say Bret screwed Bret, when you know the measure of the man's true character, and when you know how Vince broke so many contract terms with him. Having Michaels in his ear constantly berating Bret's worth likely didn't help much either.. but that Vince could do what he did, to someone who gave up so much to stay by his side, is disgusting to me.. especially in that through hindsight, we can see how utterly pointless and unnecessary it all really was

I guess if you’re going into the Attitude Era and there are only villains and anti-heroes, there’s no place for a Hitman character in that situation. Was he the best technical wrestler at the time? Well, Owen might have had something to say about that. But that wasn’t what the AE was about. None of the new fans cared about wrestling. They just wanted to see something crazy. Bret didn’t do crazy very well. He was your standard 80s good guy. The 90s were too extreme for that.

Deep down i always wished bret woulda signed w/ wcw back in 96....instead of 97...in my opinion the nwo woulda been an even hotter commodity w/ bret as the 3rd man w/ hall and nash.....yrs hogan turning heel was monumental....but hogan has never been known for being a terrific wrestler....just think of the horrific rematch of hogan v warrior at halloween havoc 98....bret was able to wrestle very very well....the nwo woulda had a leader and world champ who could put on 20 to 30 minute excellent world title matches at pretty much any ppv....i dunno i may be wrong but what i am not wrong about is wcw made a catastrophic mistake in how they used bret....especially w/ how bret did end up leaving wwe(then wwf)....wcw shoulda jumped on that exposure but yet they did not...1 thing i could never comprehend....how eric bishoff believed back in late 97/early 98....just how did he believe hogan was a bigger draw then hart??? Personally i always wished hogan woulda been cut...and then hopefully a lot more coverage om bret hart...i mean come on...like hogan couldnt find somewhere to land back then??? Im sure vince woulda brought him back for a "nostalgia run"....if not there was new japan...im sorry i just cant see why wcw always put hogan before talent like bret/sting/eddie guerrero...if they woulda got rid of the fossils like "that doesnt work for me brother" hogan and others....and been able to keep jericho/guerrero/paul wight/and many others...it may be wcw that is considered the top promotion and not the wwe....but alas it didnt come to be....and ive always felt that it was mainly cause of bishoff and his seemingly 24/7 boner for hulkamania....i wonder if easy e wiped the hulksters bum bum for him back then....ya know after hulkster made boom boom...lol....have a good day

I love it ... Guy doesnt want to use the word everyone, their mother, and great grandmother use for - *Bret "The Hitman" Hart* - That Being : *TECHNICAL* So he randomly grabs a dictionary / thesauras and pulls out a *COMPLETELY WRONG / IRRELEVANT WORD CHOICE* *"Let's See Here, Whats A Good Word I Can Use Instead of 'Technical' ... Hmmm... There it Is !¡! 'Scientific' - PERFECT !¡! What A Perfect Replacement For 'Technical' !¡! Scientific - TOTALLY - Makes COMPLETE SENSE When talking in Terms of Wrestling !¡!"* *LLLOLLLLLOLLOL9L9L*

Bret was a great in-ring talent with no personality in a time of nobodies. That became painfully obvious when newer better talent emerged.

Am I the only one who believes between 1994 to 97 they're both WCW and WWF wasted lots of money? If you're going to give Hall, Nash & Hogan all this money then they should earn it the right way and work them to death when it comes to scheduling dates. Bischoff should have never agreed to give Hogan creative control and he should have demanded that he put wrestlers over like Ric Flair, Nash, DDP, Sting, Randy Savage, Bret Hart, Goldberg, & the Giant in a CLEAN WAY. But unfortunately people were not thinking in WCW. When it comes to WWF between 96 & 1997 Bret Hart was not worth that march money and say what you will about Shawn Michaels at least HBK can cut a damn promo better than Bret Hart. Looking back on this as an adult the finances of both companies was a big Waste of money. DAMN SHAME.
