War Stories - Episode 2: In February 1996, just one day after filming a vignette (that never aired) in which he challenged Goldust to a Miami Street Fight at WrestleMania 12, Scott Hall did something much more pointed - he faxed a letter to Vince McMahon, informing his boss of four years that he was giving his notice. Kevin Nash would soon follow, as both men made their way to WCW as The Outsiders...

Yea, back then wrestlers really didn’t get pushed til they were usually well into their 30s....bret, Shawn, razor, diesel, macho man, perfect, dibiase, honestly the list could go on and on, but basically what I’m saying is their really weren’t any 20somethings that had any real success in the business back then.

It was around 1984, when the wwf went national on cable, wrestlers would spend years wrestling in the many wrestling territories around North America. Plus you would tour Japan and Mexico. Big stars spent years trying to get to the wwf and wcw.

‘96 was certainly an interesting time for wrestling. WWF is in that strange transitional period between New Generation and Attitude Era, Bret Hart was still kicking with Vince and Stone Cold had just turned heel and won King of the Ring, Vader was in the WWF, The NWO formed, and ECW was in full swing as well.

Those are really important, there’s another series of events that happened within a short period of time as well; November 9, 1997-Montreal December 28 1997-Starrcade Hogan-Sting with the fucked finish and Bret Hart debut as referee. May 17 1998- Outsiders split This series of events shows wcw’s inability to see the big picture or ever give the fans what they want.

@Thor-Orion

@@robbiesilverwolf 1996 was what i would call extremely uneven. There are some GREAT moments by the guys at the top of the card. But the industry was going through a bit of an independent and international revolution at the time. WCW had changed itself completely within 2 months of the NWO forming at Bash at the Beach. WWF was a lot slower to change, but going into 1997 wwf had significantly increased it’s quality as well. So while you’re not wrong that there was a ton of awful bullshit in 1996 there was also a lot of really good and interesting developments happening that set the stage for both big brands to put out the collective best year in wrestling ever in 1997.

I dont think Hall and Nash were sent by Vince to kill WCW, however, I am sure both men had some kind of deep seated loyalty to Vince and didn't care much for WCW as a whole. They were there and took whatever they could most likely knowing WCW would falter. So maybe indirectly yes, they went there to kill it, but not on Vince's call.

That clause in the settlement insisted on by WWE was some serious long term vision that they really benefitted from. Not just in terms of buying their competition, but the with the WCW library in their hands it set WWE off in a buying spree of old libraries from other promotions effectively making them the owners of Professional Wrestling's history. Now these libraries are a big part of their WWE Network. That's some great foresight on WWE's part.

Because, to put in the simplest of terms, wwf lost so much during those 2 years, shareholders would never allow that, and it would have come out by now. Vince Russo came to WCW in 1999, at a time when WCW'S fortunes were already failing, and proceeded to put out one stupid idea after another...which eventually killed WCW. To this day, I'm still of the belief that Vince Russo was a hired hand, sent straight from Vince McMahon, to kill off WCW. I'm also thinking that Hall & Nash had something to do with it too, but, if they did, they'll probably take their secret to the grave with them. Who knows? I wonder if Hogan was involved in all of this? There seems to be a lot of unanswered questions about the whole thing.

Right. Anything WWE claimed as intellectual property, pertaining to Scott Hall was totally bogus. Everything about Razor Ramone, was actually the intellectual property of Hall, and an extension of his personality and the former Diamond Stud persona. The trademark hair, toothpick and swagger- all Hall/Page. WWE didn't have a leg to stand on with their frivolous lawsuit against Turner/TBS/WCW. If anything, Hall could have sued WWE for stealing his intellectual property when they tried to portray Kane as a fake Razor.

You must be a booker for ECW. That's just the kind of finisher name they would have come up with. Love it!

Since WCW and ECW went out of business the wrestling world has been suffering TNA and ROH tried but they made too many mistakes as for AEW this is me but they haven't learn from the same mistakes that those past companies have committed

Ecw wouldn't of lasted either way, wcw biggest mistake was going head to head even though it was fun,ROH is suffering because aew took most there talent,impact mistake was going head to head with wwe, aew should be fine along as they don't go head to head with wwe.

@Pooldead+ nah aew ain't perfect bcuz guess what they are repeating the same mistakes that both WCW and tna made they signing WWE rejects their ratings are trash have you seen their ratings
@pooldead7712
@pooldead7712 2 жыл бұрын
@@georgebrice8329 they been around 2-3 years 🤣, they also cater to a certain type of audience and if tnt are happy with the ratings then like I said they should be fine as long as they done go head to head, ratings don't equal quality as well, wwe have proven that for a long while, aew are doing what any company would do, they also not rejects just because wwe didn't want them or the wrestlers them self decided to leave, both tna and wcw did something that they shouldn't of done and that was hire hogan, aew have learned from there mistakes and never gunna hire him.

Does anyone else think that instead of Sean Waltman, that dibiase and the giant should have been inducted with the nwo? (No disrespect intended to waltman or Eric who some also feel should be also)

To me I found this kind of funny, I don’t know why, but Scott Hall and Kevin Nash leaving WWF for WCW made Scott Hall and Kevin Nash made wrestling more popular by just showing up on WCW Nitro, and not even having to steps in the ring for the first two months, and this might be only me, but when it comes to American wrestling storylines are more important than the in ring product if you want the mainstream watching, but that might just be me.

If Vince played his cards right, WWE and WCW could both have made mad money by having an annual WWE/WCW supercard having the biggest stars of WWE going against the best of the WCW. could have been a yearly gig with storylines built to promote 6 months leading up to it. Would have been as big as Wrestlemania is, i'd bet.

Despite all of this, what ultimately was WCW's fall was the merger between Time Warner and AOL. The one who kept WCW alive was Ted Turner.

So it looks like im a yr late on here and the 83 weeks series with Eric Bischoff and Conrad & ive seen on Grillin w/Jim Ross a yr ago that he touches on alot of these Monday night War Stories as Ive also started checking out The Jim Cornette Experience & I've heard him touch on ALOT of these issues as well but something about seeing the visuals on here takes me RIGHT back to 5th-8th grade when FOR ME all of this was going on and I didnt even realize from home watching all this stuff happen live what was really going on cuz I was too young to understand and I wasn't 1 of the "dirt sheet" kids or what ever else I hear ppl like Jim Cornette and Chris Jericho call SMARKS etc.. So it's pretty nostalgic and im loving the SHIT out of all these
