It’s sad that NPS/North Carolina doesn’t mind the houses falling into the ocean with the ocean currents taking the debris wherever. They should declare the homes that are directly on the beach as “hazardous” and condemn them. Homes must then be “deconstructed” within a certain period of time (weeks not months or years) to ensure more trashing of our beloved ocean doesn’t happen. Love your channel, Sir Barley!
@brettbarley3 ай бұрын
They are condemned… the NPS hates it and has pitched homes in the past so they could dismantle them. But that’s a LOT of money and so many are at risk, it’s too tall a task to get them all. Plus, You also need the homeowner willing to sell it…. Insurance won’t pay out for the house loss unless nature physically takes it. That’s why more aren’t torn down before they fall down. The system is a mess…

I saw many Great breaks here in Fl change, some for the worse. Destroyed (SI) due to construction and dredging and some actually got better over the years. Time flys and now, about at the end of my surfing journey. Lots of good memories. Thanks for the effort-can’t wait to see the film!!

Super saddened to hear about the oil mess Brett. Especially since that base used to be such a big presence in the community years ago. (I remember surfing in front of the original lighthouse location & seeing the buildings still functioning.) Love seeing all these spots again & the memories, even though it's heartbreaking to see the beach disappearing. Those thick wedges make me think of Kitty Hawk and the Old Station surf spot (in front of what is now Black Pelican, which was the lifesaving station). Literal washing machine effect from the past vertical sucked out face.

Great footage, and thanks for your insight about the leakage at the end. Bummed to see that, I grew up coming down from NJ to surf those lighthouse groins since the late 80's and was hoping to make another pilgrimage down again soon. Looks like I have to wait on that.

hey brett, greetings from mexico. first of all thanks for your videos which have helped me progress in my surfing a lot more than any other youtube content creator. in case you are thinking about some ideas to make tutorial videos: ive heard a lot of different opinions about dropping from the peak or the shoulder here in zicatela. i think it would be interesting to have a video focusing on choosing where to take off from, and when peak or shoulder are more convenient depending the wave type, since i havent found anyone explaining this -for more intermediate/advanced surfer

Lopez have you down to the Gulfcoast for Hurricane lefts? Nope. Buster! I could've put you on the legit Skelton Bay of the Gulf. By the time everywhere else goes onshore I'm catching hollow lefts reeling down the point that just keep throwing over and over down the line with offshore wind as the biggest swells are hitting. Been surfing this spot by myself 95% of the time for over 30 years. One thing about the westcoast of Fla is the bends and inlet shoals allow for swells to swing in to places you can't just drive up to but if you don't mind walking you can score unbelievably empty waves. Good thing for me very few don't like to surf outside the popular spots.
