Santorini and Mykonos are worldwide destinations that's why they are expensive. Greece in general isn't expensive at all.

Santorini is expensive, Mykonos is incredibly expensive. But there are so many, I mean SO MANY, great Greek islands who are so much cheaper to go (and eat). And they are equally as beautiful.

Not everyone is for everything , some islands have to be expensive like other popular destinations, Greece is based on tourist , if everything would be cheap, we would have the bottom of the tourist(poor) only. We don't need tourists that they don't spend !

Santorini is beautiful for sure, but you're paying way more than you should. There are tons of other places in Greece that are beautiful and not that costly. I would suggest Kefalonia, Ikaria, Samothraki (small island with a tall mountain with waterfalls and natural beauty), and obviously a road trip around Crete. There are even more destinations than the ones i mentioned above, mountain trips, lakes, rivers, islands, whatever you like, and for 9$ you will get double the amount of the Gyros you got at the start of this video. Just book a month of travelling around Greece and you will be astonished!! Have fun!

As a Greek living in Athens I have to say that Santorini didn't seem that expensive to me(since I was there like a week ago) and the prices were kinda similar to the prices in Athens. If you wanted to spend less on food you could eat gyros in pita which costs around 3€ instead of 8 for a huge portion or skepasti. Also there are some coffee shops that sell freddo espresso for 1.70€ and as far as transportation is concerned, you can reach to multiple destinations by the local bus for 1.80-3€

I went to Santorini a few days ago and if you manage to eat gyros of 2.60 it’s possible to be in a 100 budget. And believe me there is cheap if u look hard enough or just get away for a bit from the hot tourist area and its cheaper. PS avoid having exotic drinks, always have your big bottle of water of 1€ and eat the small gelato of 2€

Another reason for getting an International Drivers Licence is because of travel insurance liability. Most insurance plans have clauses that state if you have broken the law related to your claim then that invalidates any insurance claim. So say the country of your travel does not legally recognize your drivers licence as legally valid for that country then you need to have an international drivers licence to operate any motorized vehicles or equipment. Otherwise you invalidate your insurance coverage.

Nice video. I have to say though that most of Greece isn't expensive at all. Mykonos is the most expensive, closely followed by Santorini. Prices there are 2-3x what you can pay even on neighbouring islands like Naxos, Paros or Ios.

From an old article: Reports claim there were days when up to 18,000 visitors on cruise ships alone were seen disembarking at the island’s port, which is a high number considering that only about 15,000 people actually live on the island. My country (Greece) and many other with natural beauties should ask for quality tourism and not quantity. In high season it is better to visit other greek islands that are way way ..more affordable, with the same or different kind of beautiness and without the madness of the thousands of tourists. Leave the famous islands like Santorini, Myconos, e.t.c for other seasons (you might find better prices also). Choose wisely.

LOL People complain Santorini are $$$. They obviously haven't been to Zurich, Switzerland. I went there on my honeymoon. For 2 people stay in a cheap hotel ( about 250-300 ), have 3 ( about nearly $100 for 2p each time )meals a day at a normal restaurant and a one day tour to Luzern and Mt Titlis (about 450-500 for 2 p). Cost about $1000 I also went to Paris, Frankfurt, Zurich, Florence, Venice and Santorini. We spent about $10 000 in total. Not including buying luxury bags for wife in Paris. I was at the exact location where u guys rent ATV. From most expensive to less. Z, P, FFV are about the same, S is the cheapest of the lot.

Greece, in general, is not expensive. Santorini and Mykonos, on the other hand, is actually expensive. Usually one gyro costs around 3 Euros and an ice cream around 1.5 Euros. So, 5 or 9 Euros you paid for the ice cream and gyros is an outrageous price my friend!
