My only real issue is that I am sometimes getting hit on play action plays during the fake hand off, and then I watch the replay and my O line doesn’t even attempt a block. If we’re talking realism then my right guard should not be helping the center double team while the pass rusher that was lined up on top of him runs right by him and sacks me. At least 70% of the time it’s not a real problem or my own fault but it happens often enough that it feels like a problem.

This video is great. As a coach, a big part of my job is teaching young QBs how to navigate our pass protections. Strangely all of these fancy personal QB coaches seem to skip that step... I generally try to simplify a lot of this into 3 principles. 1. Put big guys on big guys. 2. Put the danger in your sight or far away as possible. 3. When in doubt, make the protection easier on your center in terms of angles. The one thing i would add as an extra layer to scat protection especially is to be cognizant of who the danger player is (the theoretical 5th or 6th man) in relation to your routes. You want to have a place to go with the ball when that guy pressures. But that exposes the other big issue i see when people talk about struggling with the passing game in cfb 25. At higher difficulties, you really need to have an understanding of how progressions work in the drop back game. I read a lot of people really reliant on quicks, likely because those are simple reads. Previous football games didn't punish you nearly as much for not following progressions. I'm surprised there isn't an ncaa football sale on Dan Gonzales/dub Maddox/Steve Axman books.

What sucks is, the game's default run blocking. O Lineman don't keep their shoulders square to the LOS run blocking at the POA in real football. In fact, that is exactly what D Lineman are trying to do to the O Lineman (square their shoulders when the defend their blocks)! The O Lineman should be "logging" the defender inside (turn them perpendicular to LOS) OL "tail" facing away from Center or "kick them out" (Still Perpendicular) but OL "tail" facing in towards the Center at the POA (point of attack). Yes, there's drive blocks and other types too but basics, you DO NOT just keep your shoulders square to LOS in run blocking. This is what the game often does and what usually happens is the game just waits for the RB to get near the POA, the defender can now instantly shed the block and play either side! That's BS! Running backs are taught to "read tails". When you see their "tail" (butt), that's the track!

If they can't Blindly Accept that All Coaches Are Good & Know Everything they might have to stop blindly accepting that Greg Roman "helped Lamar Jackson with his issues" (even though no Raven staffer ever came out & announced Lamar had any to them or to the rest of the NFL & therefore this *must be a lie* invented to protect their idealism of coaches) or that the Bears _"had to call for"_ Fields to not throw to certain receivers on certain plays even if they were the only ones to get open. Remember _why_ they "had to" do that? Because "Fields can't read defenses?" That would mean that Eberflus' plays actually _sabotaged_ not helped Fields & the offense. How could demanding that his QB not throw to open receivers _possibly (not?) I have so many occasions of my OL doing a pancake animation and the defender cancelling out his fall and running full speed at my QB before I finish my drop back. OL just running and not finding a target to block in the running game. DBs just standing in place to allow receivers to get open. Playing some coverage but all of a sudden my DB playing a “Hard Flat” is running across the field with a WR while there’s somebody wide open in his hard flat zone. The pursuit angles are horrid. Lots of unrealistic things in this game that show up too often for me to say it’s the most realistic final game we’ve seen.

Finished the 1st season already, and I think I got sacked 50+ times. And I had a blast! It's a video game, there's occasionally some unrealistic lineman just morphing through your guard, but overall it's so much better and more dynamic than anything we've ever had. And, I never felt like it was just the game forcing shit upon me. It felt like I was doing something wrong, which I was. Just on autopilot from years of madden, it was getting me in trouble. Thank you for this video man, so much! When it comes to everything else about football, I like to think I know quite a lot. But offensive line play? Other than seeing your man get a sack, I got nothing. I know there's more to it than that, obviously, I played a little too in school .. but never o line. This will help me immensely!

I am a football junkie and this information is great in all and I actually know a lot of it because I play until high school and my brother play college nothing special in college but he did play in college, but the problem is if you are starting a dynasty with a one star school all of this goes out the window because your O-line can't block anything literally. Everyone just goes right by them even if you are mass protecting every play. I started a dynasty with NIU for no reason at all and the only thing that I could do was run the ball or slants because I had one second to get the ball off. Recruiting is the thing that you have to be good at in this game because if you can recruit then everything can get better, but if you don't know how to recruit in this game then you are screwed.

Sounds like real life? NIU are terrible and need to recruit to get any better
@jabarwright43335 ай бұрын
@@NerreraFightStories True, but that would be the same for any 1 star school.

sure thats great and all when you are getting blitzed, but most sacks come from a basic 4 man rush and your o line just watches the d run past like in the longest yard
@crittoneida9585 ай бұрын
Yep. Plus ur cbs can't play man very well & ur safeties take the worst pursuit angles.....even with ur pass coverage slider cranked all the way up
@LuckyAJC5 ай бұрын
@@crittoneida958 not playing man makes okay sense since it is college, unless you have a 90+ ovr stud. but defense as a whole is fucked
@crittoneida9585 ай бұрын
@@LuckyAJC but the ratings should mean something a mid WR shouldnt dominate a good cb with a higher rating. & a safety should play like the last line of defense & flow to the ball after the ball goes in the air....not trailing a wr on the opposite hash....

and it's right there in his face 🤦♂it's like dudes are legally blind or something, the AI logic of this game is 🚮

The players abilities and stats are so varying because it’s cfb. He’s only describing ways to try to handle that with the features for the oline they put in. I for sure understand all of you guys because I moved UTSA to the SEC in dynasty lol. Try stepping up in the pocket to your strongest guards direction(and hope your center isn’t a dumb ah), usually let’s me get my passes off in 2 or 3 seconds

Amusing to watch Madden players who don’t know football confused at the sacks/coverage success by the defense. Ppl audible to post vs middle field closed lol
@dton67085 ай бұрын
Totally disagree! This game is far from simulation football. It’s arcade football at best that is broken, running on the same broken engine for years!

Loved this video Good breakdown lots of people complaining that the O line doesn’t block lol this is probably the best O Line AI we have ever had

yes my tackles completely ignoring the edge rushers 5+ times a game is very realistic. thanks for the tips brett.

Brett love the pod with u & E.J., was wondering if you guys would ever do a mini series like football for dummies. Kinda like this video but so that neutrals like myself can have a general understanding of getting into football

Very informative. I was using half slide blocking with 6 this whole time - but that’s just because my OLine sucks lol. Now I know *why* I should’ve been doing that. Good looking out!

All this time I thought recruiting was my only issue, brett showing that there's levels to this

I pre-ordered the base game and have not played online. I've been learning the ins and outs of the defense. How to stem switch, disguise defense, audible and I've learned a lot. I have not started to learn pass protection yet, thanks for the crash course.

Brett, this is awesome. Would love to see breakdowns of what offensive schemes to use against different coverages for us casuals 😂.

I played at a friend's house as Clemson vs UGA at home. Was up 35-7 with 3 minutes remaining. Ran the ball all over them for over 200 yards. The CPU just decided they wanted to win. In the last 3 minutes i had a fumbled returned, pick six, punt blocked, 6 dropped passes, couldn't buy a first down running it. Lost 35-42. When the game wants to win, they win.
@VloggingThroughHistory4 ай бұрын
You lost because you were passing with a 28 point lead and 3 minutes left. That's on you, not the game.

@@jacushman I think he was saying you could not find away to chew the clock down and make them burn TO's and either run out the clock or leave to little time on the clock? Just run the ball or take a knee and snap the ball with 1-2 seconds left on the clock.
@jacushman4 ай бұрын
@xspindrift8737 oh believe me I tried that. They had time outs. When the computer wants to win, it win.

Typical EA catch up cheats. This is also seen in FIFA for years…
@stephenmartin576610 күн бұрын
My problem with O line is just when sometimes they just let go and stand there 😂 or glitch together and get stuck trying to find an animation. That and when you get far enough ahead the way the cpu alters the game artificially via stat changes, difficulty levels maybe, and momentum changes that result from these.

Protection is not the issue guys. Im playin on Heisman and have never touched the pass protection options. I had the #1 offense in the league. I read the defense and get the ball out quick
