I feel bad for Caleb Williams...to be stuck with this coaching staff meanwhile having to listen to the constant comparison with Jayden Daniels...say what you want about Dan Quinn, atleast he is fundamentally competent as a coach. And while I understand that Daniels is doing something very special, its still there rookie year and they both need to learn and grow sufficiently before we pass our final judgement on the two. I mean, look at cj stroud over at Houston, as great as he was his rookie year, we can see that he still needs to develop some more before he can be truly elite

The whole bit of being compared to Jayden Daniels confuses me. Sure, the highlights are pretty, but his level of play isn’t sustainable. He’s already hurt 9 weeks in, he leaves the pocket often, most times when he has a clean one and takes off instead of manipulating the defense with his arm. He’s been able to get away with some remarkable plays, but that’s thanks to Kliff Kingsbury, he’s putting on a masterclass of an OC Job this year. Since 2018 most “athlete” QBs are struggling now in this era of the league. Only one that’s truly been elite has been Lamar. I love that dude. Or Mahomes and Josh Allen. I think people need to slow the comparisons down and wait a couple of years before making judgement. Most Commanders fans wanted a trade up for Caleb, how they and other NFL fans bash him is beyond me. As if he’s supposed to transcend coaching and the structure around him which truly is sad.
@slimtreydy
@slimtreydy Ай бұрын
@@NotNykohturn on the film and tell me Jayden isn’t playing QB at a high level while also being dynamic with his legs. Week 1 he may have been bailing from the pocket but since Week 3 he’s been incredible and this past week against the Bears was some of his best film as a pure passer. Washington fans don’t bash Caleb, we root for him because he’s a local kid. It’s been Bears fans bashing Jayden all year because they’re self-conscious about how good he’s been. No ones trying to make definitive statements 8 weeks into their careers, but trying to discredit Jayden makes no sense.

Brett's Rant about Matt Eberfleus crappy Head Coaching post conference and blaming the players for execution is funny because Doug Pederson has been doing this ish for the Past 14 games. Blaming players, awful schemes, getting mad at reporters, and had the NERVE to say that we need a culture change. After we lost a VERY winnable games against the Texans this year... Doug Pederson was asked by reporters should he take away play calling from Press Taylor (who is horrible) and Doug Pederson responded by saying "Why would I do that? I think he called a Great Game". Its there is a clear fireable offense... it would definitely be that one RIGHT THERE!! Say way you will about Eberfleus. At least something he's doing is working...(Defense). There is nothing that puts it quite in stark contrast as comparing the Bears coaching staff to the Commanders coaching staff. As someone who has lived through plenty of bad coaching staffs here in Washington, a lot of this is familiar, including firing a head coach a year after drafting a new QB. But, when you finally get a good one that actually knows how to maximize the talent they have, rather than play like they wish they had different talent that can actually run the scheme they are trying to run, it feels so much better.

I wasn't shocked when they didn't clean house at the end of last season, but I was relieved, because it was like seeing the old familiar cycle repeating itself, even with the chance to draft a (supposedly) generational prospect at QB. Coaching aside, I was also mildly amused to see the Bears go WR with their second top 10 pick in a historically good offensive line draft. Odunze might be awesome some day, but you can get WRs anywhere in the first few rounds of the draft. Giving a rookie QB a guy like Fuaga to help protect him probably would have gone a helluva lot farther to developing Williams than another target who is only going to be targeted maybe 10 times a game. As a Packers fan, I can't say that I'm complaining about the outcome so far, but holy shit is it baffling to watch the Bears and the way they go about things.

They didn't have another pick until R3 after Rome, which they did spend on OT. You could hypothetically flip them and have taken Fashanu/Fuaga + Jermaine Burton/Roman Wilson/Jalen McMillan (assuming they still need a WR). Personally I think the picks they made are pretty justified, Rome was projected as a better player than either OT and through half of their rookie seasons Fuaga has a better PFF grade, Fashanu quite a bit worse. Kiran, the 3rd round OT is doing like, kinda ok for a rookie (very similar PFF grade to Fashanu). I think a lot of what the Bears management has done is questionable, but I don't think the Rome pick is really that bad, even if he is having the worst season out of all of the 1st round WR picks that didn't get shot.
@t4d0W
@t4d0W Ай бұрын
The Odunze pick is probably justified in that he's a high valued known commodity. WRs hit rate from the the last decade (at least 2011 to 2021) in the top 10 of the draft is 9/14. If he he's got the size and desireable skillset (ISO ball winner, etc.) plus he'll be on a controlled cost for 5 years, that is a great investment. Day 2 receivers can hit but the Bears didn't have the draft capital to be taking players still within the top 100. I'm a little more negative on Tackle-swing tackle prospects even in the top 10 because they take time to develop (unless it was the sure deal player) and they can whiff. Even worse because the Bears interior O-line group isn't exactly set and stable either.

I may have been sworn at a few times leaving the stadium, but I do remember the 80s and what it was like to be rooting for a stagnant organization.

@@UserName-ts3spabsolutely unequivocally wrong. Yes he hasn’t seen a playoff as of late… he also had to content with the Greatest QB of all time in his conference unlike the soft NFC. And tbh if not for that bullshit Jesse James no TD call They would have more recently. Sometimes unfortunate things happen. Vontez Burfict knocking the greatest WR at the time out of the game in the last second with a concussion before the team had to go on to the patriots being one of them…it’s just football. Those are excuses but they are vital. Because after those years with Bell,Brown etc it was a rebuild all the offensive line retired. The Steelers rebuild slowly. It’s the way they have always and I mean always been. Good teams that stay good Draft well and rebuild over half decades. It’s the way the team operates and it operates that way to catch and edge on other teams who choose different methods. You clearly don’t understand the team and ownership. That level of consistency is prized and will continue to be.

The only ray of hope and why this time is different is that if we make a change at HC, Caleb is legit enough to deal with it and succeed. Comparing him to Trubisky and Fields is unfair. He is light years ahead of both of them in the ability to process things mentally on the field.

If Shane Waldron can work on the OBVIOUS personnel choice issues and improve play calling decisions even a little, I feel like we’ll be on the right track. Our defense is good. The coaching at the end of this game was atrocious, but we can improve. Let’s see where we’re at at the end of the season

Hey Brett I know you’re a NFL guy, so it wouldn’t make sense to do this in the middle of the season, but I think a video going into detail about how college and the pro game are effectively categorically different games would be really helpful. It took me years to realize that you weren’t being hyperbolic and that the different rules completely alter the decision making process on a play to play basis. I think a whole video on this topic with visuals would be really cool.

Stark reality when you realize Eburflus is the 7th best HC in the division (LaFlaur, Campbell, O'Connel, Johnson, Flores, and maybe Hafley) oof. Kind of crazy how everybody saw this coming, but the Bears stuck with the bad coach and hamstrung their rookie QB going into his second year by learning an entire new offense. Hopefully, Caleb can overcome that.

I mean ask the die hard Justin Herbert observers. I don't mention the Chargers fans necessarily because some of them deluded themselves to wanting Joshua Palmer balling out as WR1. But Herbert for the most part of his career has been battling domestic terrorism being attached to a bad offensive coordinator. And being asked to bail out an inefficient offense who can't move the ball on early downs and has to create magic on late passing downs. I feel Caleb with bad coaching is that destiny.

I was at the game and am a lifelong Bears fan. Here’s what I wrote Sunday night: I see the media is now trying to blame the game on Tyrique Stevenson talking junk to the crowd when he was supposed to get into position to defend. Having seen the game live, it had little to do with him. We should not have won that game. Our coaches are not good. Caleb couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. When we got the ball to the goal line the first time, Shane the feckless gave 68 the ball. And when we got there the second time, we got lucky with a PI call. Lastly, when Jayden was scrambling on the Hail Mary, we gave him thirteen f-ing seconds. THIRTEEN FING SECONDs!!! All of it was inexcusable and I can’t see a coach like Bill Belichick allowing it. We deserve better than this.

As a Packers fan, the Bears had me worried there for a while that they were going to become great. 1st and 9th overall picks, good defense, good offensive pieces and then they were going to get either Jim Harbaugh or Ben Johnson for head coach (turns out Johnson was terrifyingly close to happening as Chi was the only team he wanted to go to) and maybe even Kliff Kingsbury as OC. I literally did the "YES!" with fist pump when I heard they were keeping Eberflub and hiring Waldron.

My brother has been a Packers fan forever and he called this kind of Bears Organization Dysfunction before they even drafted Williams this year. I kept asking him what he thought the Bears would do this year and he said they will fire Eberflus once the season ends and just be the same Bears organization as always. As an outside fan it sucks for the players for sure but it is comedic that this always happens to the Bears

@3:12 not only was the play called questionable, you can see in 3 seconds 3 bears offensive lineman are on the ground and one second later a fourth offensive lineman joins the other 3 on the ground. The execution of that play was beyond horrendous. That’s why Swift was gang tackled. His entire offensive line was on the ground.

Alternatively, look at how the Bills defended the Hail Mary vs. the Jets a few weeks ago: they rushed two, Rodgers had all the time in the world to choose his footing and fling the ball, and they got a TD at the end of the half. The Bears had all the evidence they needed for what they should do from this season alone even if they ignored all previous statistics.

Its a funny dichotomy really. Waldron is willing to copy cute stuff from other OCs like having an O-lineman run the ball in at goal line. Or having a pint sized WR block a big NFL edge lineman. Won't get positive results but he's willing to be stubborn about it. Meanwhile nobody is trying to re-invent the wheel on defense because they play behind the offense on principle. But you have Eberflus playing 3 lineman to contain and 1 to spy on Jayden Daniels. With the possible intention that Daniels kills them with a successful 52 yrd scramble run to score and win the game. The worst part about it is that the way Eberflus goes about his process and how its scripted almost validates the folks who believe in the conspiracy theory that the NFL is rigged.

About the hail Marys, the Packers had two shots at it week 1 in Brazil and the Eagles brought pressure TWICE. The result was a injuried knee for Jordan Love and a sack in Malik Willis to end the game.
