I have gone both ways with the Belgian Draft mules I worked with . . . but because my roaching skills were fairly minimal I decided to let their manes grow long. I combed them regularly because of the burrs they picked up while skidding back in the woods, which kept them looking pretty good. I never messed with their tails except burr removal which was constant.

Just a few weeks ago in northern California a 71 year old woman was mauled, killed, and eaten by a black bear. June 2023 a man was killed by a black bear near Prescott, AZ. Wildlife seems to be getting really wild lately. I live up in the mountains, I do not hike am very careful about going out after dark. We have mountain lions, black bears, wolves, and wild pigs. We have all of the citiodts come up here, and they love to hike. God Bless them.
