He's a bit of an idealistic div who closes his eyes to all that is wrong with the EU and refuses to acknowledge it in pursuit of his unobtainable dream. I agree, all these millionaires bang on about inequality and giving the world a fair chance, but then they get into their chauffeur driven cars and driven back to their mansions. When it's because the minority like these people contain the majority of the worlds wealth. They should share it equally between all of us and then we'd have equality, and people wouldn't feel so angry about immigration or the EU etc.

+annagrace Obama hates the UK. How any Brit can think otherwise is beyond me. Bill whittle has a good 10 minute video explaining all the slights he has handed to us over the years. You are just another country, like any other" So much for being close allies!

@CrankCase088 жыл бұрын
When he's not talking about "Humanity" he indulges in his favourite practice, which is talking about himself. Izzard can only argue in terms of some naive starry-eyed notion of 'togetherness', whereas Daniel Hannan uses pertinent facts.
@tibbsazoid8 жыл бұрын
All of the "stay" arguments are so weak and shallow. The best argument they have is economic, but all those estimates are based on the idea that nothing else good will ever happen with the rest of the world. Setnakht two odd years later : I'm a staunch leave voter from the start. I actually appreciate Eddie's willingness to make his case. I don't agree with it. I believe his view of the eu as DH says is "idealised", at least to some extent. Bearing in mind that he's fundamentally an entertainer, and not . A debater . Politicians . An eu employee with a knowledge of how it works I think he actually expressed his position quite well. He doesn't persuade me. But i especially admire his stance that everybody who was entitled to should have taken the opportunity and registered. Some people of course chose not to vote because they were undecided, or for religious reasons. But Eddie and Daniel were a bit of a mismatch. Kudos to Eddie for trying.
@wallrider738 жыл бұрын
Izzard was appalling. He kept mentioning the CBI but I wonder if he knows how much funding they get from the EU. Such a confused bunch of arguments. The Leave campaign is putting forward much stronger arguments but then they have people like Daniel Hannan and Douglas Murray.

It's part of the EU's newspeak to equate Europe with the EU, like if you hate the EU then you must hate Europe and Europeans. I love Europe, and that's why I hate the EU, it's destroying us all, in the democratic sense, in the economic sense and in the sense of our cultures and identities.

What with this and 'Question Time' recently. Brexiters must love Eddie Izzard. He's doing more for the leave campaign than anybody!

Eddie Izzard brought a knife to fight a tank. He was intellectually way out of his depth. I've seen Hannan debate many times and he never loses. Izzard should have done at least a little bit of research.

OMG...I actually felt embarrassed for Izzard here! Some of it I had to move on quickly , it was like David Brent doing a speech . AS for the audience , typical students with no experience and think they know it all.

Yes, Eddie. We fought for our freedom only to be ruled by proxy from the very country we were fighting!

After reading Hannan's piece in the Telegraph, I looked this up. Here we see a professional with facts and articulate reason vs an ignorant amateur with no arguments, only random emotions.

Eddie summed up the progressive left for me: virtue signalling over substance. And what exactly is his end game? A one world government? I can't imagine anything more divorced from democracy than that. (bit of strawman here but it is the logical conclusion to his argument I think)

Tragically I feel that Daniel Hannan would do a better job of a comedy act in drag than Eddie Izzard does at political debate.

Who ever asked Eddie Izard to take part in this?. He is a disaster

Eddie you were a great comedian now you're just a joke. You are not equipped for political debate, don't give up the day job.

We have been trying as a member state to reform the EU for 40 years without success, what makes Eddie Izzard think that voting remain, to "fight to make it work" is going to be any less futile ? The EU is in decline the Eurozone has failed dismally, Greece is on its knees, more to go the same way. Sweden is slowly but surely being destroyed by importation of a crime wave. Masses of people are being forced to leave their own home countries to fit a hidden agenda. Everyone, except the politicians orchestrating this man made crisis, suffers the consequences not just the displaced refugees. Vote democracy, vote leave.

Some of the questions from both under and post grads are painful to listen too and show incredible naivety, ignorance and a lack of confidence in our country, in terms of our ability to stand tall and engage with the world in our own right.

Yep....that's what happens with 40 years of brainwashing using the Frankfurt School Techniques. There's also around 40,000 Common Purpose trained people in all UK institutions (Universities,Local Government,Police,NHS, Schools etc.) to "...lead us into the Post Democratic Era"....frightening - but the brainwashing works, and they start with the kids.....!!!

Sitting here in the New Year of 2021 and having voted for Brexit in 2016, I can only observe from this debate 2 key things; 1) I could use the philosophy and approach of Eddie Izzard equally to support why the U.K. could promote and contribute to hope, peace and humanity outside the EU .... I see little of his arguments that support why the EU is the only manner to achieve his goals of humanity. 2) The worry contained within Project Fear has not come to bear in reality.... once again it is the fear of the unknown in a change that drove the Remain campaign as opposed to the optimism and hope of the Leave Campaign.

Eddie Izzard should be awarded for finding the most irrelevant arguments ever made in support of Remain. He brought a spoon to a knife fight.
