@fluffymufti Squeezing a pimple on our nose is a better analogy. The UK is far more exposed to trade disruptions than any individual EU member. As a case in point, if bilateral trade were to grind to a complete halt, our exports would be down 4.4%. Yours, 45%. That's what I call a crippling blow.

After the banking crash in 2008 money that should have been invested in the economy was diverted to preventing a depression by pumping billions into the financial sector. This prevented assets owned by the wealthy falling in value. This has caused wages to flat line so they are less than in 2008. Brexit allows the workers to blame foreigners rather than the real culprits who will make money from Brexit.

@Diarmaid O'Riordan over 1400 European financial organisations have recently applied to the UK regulators to have registered offices in UK. @phil mill I guess that in your clumsy and confused way (the EU-27 actually enjoy a trade surplus), you're trying to say that the UK has a £80 billion trade deficit with the EU and that that puts the EU at a disadvantage in a possible tariff war. All things being equal, that would be the case, but things are far from equal. The UK has a much smaller economy compared to that of the EU-27. It's like a welterweight challenging a super-heavyweight. A better apples-to-apples comparison is that if trade between the UK and the EU were to grind to a complete halt on Jan 1st 2021, UK exports would be cut by 44%, while only 8% would be shaved off the EU's exports. That's because you'd be losing 27 trade partners; we, just the one.
