I'm a Canadian-American, and I had heard of Brexit many times through mention in Yogscast videos yet never knew what it was (other than it being some government thing that got passed in the UK). Thanks to this video, I decided to consult the ever-omniscient Google for answers. I ended up on the BBC website's page "Brexit: All you need to know about the UK leaving the EU". I am now armed with knowledge and no longer ignorant. I now know the difference between the EU and the EBU, and that they are independent and unaffiliated with each other. It is a relief to hear that the UK will not be banned from participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. In addition, I now know that the Eurovision Song Contest exists. I must thank you, Tom and Simon. Without you two, I would never have had the drive to search out this knowledge as I am somebody who does not even pay attention to the happenings of either of my home countries. ... ... By the way, is Ben gonna be appearing on your channel anytime this week...? (I can't make regular comments anymore *frowny face*)

Oh no, I just watched Yahtzee's review of this...
@ringosis6 жыл бұрын
I enjoy watching Yahtzee's reviews because he's funny, but he doesn't have a clue about what makes a good game. He likes Dark Souls, simple retro games with tight controls, and anything he deems to have good writing, and no other aspect of gaming is even considered. He seems to enjoy finding things to make fun of in the industry more than he actually enjoys video games, so I pretty much just laugh at the jokes and disregard all of his conclusions.
@Zbyhonj6 жыл бұрын
...except he's right most of the time. If you look at his reviews witha approx. 2 year delay, the stuff he called out for being shit tends to be legit shit, for one reason or another. Of course he is not 100% unbiased, he forgives Dark Souls stuff that he scorns in other games, he never reviewed Darkest Dungeon purely out of some unspecified esoteric spite, etc. But he tends to be very objective when you listen to his actual points. Thing is, Yahtzee scolding a game and Yahtzee claiming said game is shit is absolutely not the same thing. Not Tonight is a prime example of this. He didn't say "not tonight is a worthless shit game." He complained that -it has some anoying gameplay features -it has little difficulty and fails at creating a sense of stress and consequence -it features current political commentary, which interferes with fluid storytelling (and will be utterly irrelevant in ten years) -it doesn't really do anything that Papers, Please didn't do way better. and all of that is pretty true.
@ringosis6 жыл бұрын
Kryštof Pazdera - So when he personally hates multiplayer but constantly reviews multiplayer focus games anyway and shits on them for being multiplayer just to get laughs, that's good journalism in your mind? He plays coop games solo and whines about them feeling empty. He plays PC games, by his own admission, on laptops that don't even come close to meeting the minimum spec for the game he's reviewing. I'm pretty sure I'd hate any game where I was getting 15 FPS on low...hardly the games fault is it? He plays games where a large selling point is beautiful visuals and then plays them on 800p, minimum settings so they look like ass. He's not objective. That's the whole point. He might constantly claim to be objective and word his reviews in a way that make him sound like he's acknowledging his own taste and situation...but then he just plows on with shitting on stuff for ridiculously personal reasons. As I said...funny guy, good writer...fucking terrible journalist. I mean for god sake, you could argue that some journalists who have niche opinions are actually valuable because being a good reviewer is about being consistent, providing an unchanging point of view so that the reader can gauge how likely they are to agree with you , but Yahtzee isn't even consistent. He'll complain about something in one game, and then praise another game for doing the same thing, making his point of view utterly useless.
@Zbyhonj6 жыл бұрын
While Yahtzee DOES have inconsistencies in his rewiews, I don't find them as extensive as to undermine his opinions. And you have to distinguish his 'shitting for comedic value' from his 'shitting for genuine reasons,' but I can see how that would be anoying to someone looking for a straightforward review ...that said, *I have yet to find a reviewer more objective than Yahtzee* and I'm 100% open to your suggestions on that matter. ...guess that it just boils down to the fact that I'm also an ad extremum cherrypicker with a low spec PC and utter neglect for multiplayer, our taste aligns in almost everything with the exception of The Last of Us and strategies.
@Zbyhonj6 жыл бұрын
BUT Consider this (if you have the time to spare, which I'll understand if you don't): I just had a quick scroll through zero punctuation vids and picked out the games that he gave either a positive review, or an overwhelmingly negative one. (also for the sake of brevity, it's limited to games that were rewiewed in the last 5 years, and that happened to spark my interest, for reasons better or worse). Things Yahtz liked, more or less: _Resident Evil 4, Dad of Boy, Subnautica, Okami, Hollow Knight, Doom, Undertale, Witcher 3, HL1+2, Alien: Isolation, Wolfenstein: NO, AC: Black Flag, Papers Please, Far Cry 3 and FC3: Blood Dragon._ Things he violently shat on: _Agony, Detroit: Become Human (and Beyond: Two Souls, to a lesser degree), SW: Battlefront, Tomb Raider reboots, AC: Syndicate, new Thief, Ryse: Son of Rome, CoD: Ghosts._ Ignoring stuff like _Order 1886_ and _Ryse: Son of Rome,_ for their lack of any redeeming qualities. I'm open to disagreement, but to me, this seems like quite the objective record. Well, and while maybe too overzealously presented, my original point was just that he's right about Not Tonight :D

Now the parliament will negotiate with the member states after which the bill will have to be approved again by Parliament and by the member states after which it will finally turn into law. Please note that whole the law is a poor solution, it didn't spawn into existence out of nothing. @TheLordofLemons6 жыл бұрын
+Samahawk 360 I wasn't aware that the majority of the UK's population was in favour of holding a second referendum. The issue is that it's entirely undemocratic to hold another referendum on an issue simply because the result didn't go your way, which is the reason why so many remain supporters want it. Lies were told by both sides, something that happens every time the country comes to vote. Until someone can find legal grounds upon which a second referendum can be held, it won't happen.

@jacobmould15766 жыл бұрын
Yeah, because Papers, Please didn't have any political message in their game...
@TheLordofLemons6 жыл бұрын
Paper's Please was based on what genuinely happened under Soviet rule in Eastern Europe. I didn't see much bashing of Russians going on, with the USSR-like state being represented as faceless and detached from the people actually living in Arstotzka. This, however, is just the developer's pushing their own agenda regarding a political issue whilst branding all those who disagreed with them over it as racists and nationalists, which is a very different thing.
@TheMakeash6 жыл бұрын
The politics are presented front and centre in this game. With papers please they're predominantly undertones, and you fundamentally have a choice in the matters. This presents zero moral quandaries, there's no real reason to say yes or no to a bride aside from the warning mechanic. You don't have a starving family, you seemingly have zero reason to even stay in the country.

The EU outlawed let's play content today to riotous applause, by rejecting the proposed amendments to articles 11 and 13. As the yogscast produce the majority of their content using videogames they don't hold the copyright license for as reference material, this could very well end their ability to produce any videos or streams containing gameplay footage across all publishing platforms. It might well ruin the company lock, stock and barrel. Let that sink in.

@@stuffandthat157 One of my personal gripes is that there's no real moral decisions in this game, like with Papers Please. It's just they have the right documents or not, whereas in Papers Please you have for instance the woman following her husband but she doesn't have the ticket. Or that soldiers girlfriend you don't have to let in or help.
@aaroneus54796 жыл бұрын
Take On Kek personally I agree that papers please is better in some aspects but this game (which I've played quite a bit) has more it in, more varied (doesn't just get way too convoluted with loads of documents but has different lines etc) and in my opinion a better, more topical, story albeit false.
@noaccount46 жыл бұрын
In my opinion Papers Please has the better and the more topical story - Papers Please is a timeless story, whereas Not Tonight is dated tremendously. That's not even mentioning the simple but striking moral choices of Papers Please, where you have to choose between corrupting your system to help complete strangers caught up in a cruel situation at great personal risks to yourself and your family, or choose to do your job and support your family caught up in the same cruel situation to the best of your abilities. In Not Tonight there's not really any moral question about corrupting the system, since you owe nothing to anyone, and really you're only constrained by how much you can get away with. Except maybe how pushing drugs or software companies is bad. The elephant in the room is also that it's rather unsubtle that the game developers don't want you to form your own opinion on Brexit. The British are racist, the British are uneducated, they love their flags and will send Home Office workers in British nazi uniforms to put British citizens of European descent into gulags. If you played Paper Please, you'd learn from the game how brutal the Iron Curtain was, even if you'd never heard of the real life counterpart before. Playing Not Tonight, if you had never heard of Brexit or if you supported Leave, the ludicrous caricatures of the British peoples is neither persuasive or informative. It's no sin for a story to pick a side in some political controversy, but what is the player supposed to take besides "you should hate Brexit because everyone who likes Brexit is a nazi who hates Europeans?" Not Tonight is a parody of itself. At least the background art is very pretty though. In summation, chances are you'd be able to enjoy Papers Please even if you were a former Soviet General. The institutions are the problem and you have to make the tough choices; Not Tonight it's clearly not the institutions that are the problem, it's the British. Besides the grim joke about the privatisation of the NHS, Not Tonight is going to age like milk after Brexit - it relies too much on you already agreeing with the game.
