As the clock ticks down to the 31st of October deadline, Prime Minister Boris Johnson addresses the House of Commons to convince them to back his Brexit deal. He calls for union within the country and says that it's his deal or no deal.
Sitting across from the Prime Minister, Leader of the opposition Jeremy Corbyn says "we will not be duped" ahead of the vote on Brexit.

For 2 years Remain MP's have been banging on about avoiding No deal, then today when Boris comes back with a deal they never thought he would get Brussels to move on, they STILL dont vote for it. @Leroy JenkinsYes and the cabinets are responsible, they have to come up with a good Brexit plan that is supported by a majority. All these Tories failed for more than three years. The level of UK voters' anger with its pathetic politicians is beyond boiling point. Many MPs must know they are in for a catastrophic General Election when it comes .
@artistsometimes2729
@artistsometimes2729 4 жыл бұрын
I welcome a general election to decide on the future direction of our country. Let it be a clear choice between transforming our country for the 21st century with the principles of liberty, equality and fraternity at its heart, universal public services for all, where no-one goes hungry and no-one is left homeless and the alternative, a regression to an imagined glorious past before we were almost wiped out by WW2. A time before the NHS, where we had an empire and oppressed millions in the global south with dictatorial regimes. Yes, what an inspiring vision Boris has! But it won't satisfy because he has no answer to the core issues of our time; global economic stability (preventing another crash), climate breakdown and nuclear Armageddon with the new cold war between the US and Russia. Corbyn has been consistent and principled on the issues that matter to ordinary working and middle class people his whole political life. That's why I'd choose his vision in a heartbeat, whether Remain or Leave. Because ultimately the Brexit question is a red herring; it's the transformation of inequality and injustice in our society and the world that really matters not an ongoing, frankly boring trading relationship with an economic bloc. The EU is a pragmatic agreement, not a choice of principle. It is not inherently progressive or conservative, it simply protects its own interests and is marginally better than the other economic blocs of the US and China respectively, especially on workers and environmental rights. I do not like the EU and would be happy to Leave in an orderly fashion, but the Tories will always use it as an excuse to tear up the gains of organised labour over the last 100 years.

We must now have an App on our smartphone, the MP will have to consult people form their constituency before voting anything - these MPs simply represent themselves - it's time to change that and MPs will bring 1 voice only (theirs) to the consultation and they will have to comply to the result. We are in 2019 , it s ridiculous that one person only is able represent thousands/ hundred of thousands !!! - let's Get the APP : "What shall I vote for".

I don't like Johnson, but his initial statement is true. Britain never really was fully part of the concept of an increased EU integration. I for one am a proponent of a functional, effective, accountable, transparent and strong United States of Europe. If the UK chooses to finally take a clear stand and not be part be of that idea (an idea of course which the EU is itself not clear about) than it is fair and wise for them to stand on their own. Of course it also must come to grips with the fact that it might have to shrink itself as Scotland might choose to secede from the UK and old hard borders be reelected within the UK between the Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland border.

I am afraid that the PM again tries to offend legislation which has passed the parliament some half an hour ago. "There will not be a no-deal Brexit AND the deal is not acceptable = we need more time (as the outcome is now)". This essentially is what has been decided by the division. So, if the PM denies accepting this advise, and the order to now ask for a delay, he is indeed a case for the supreme court. The opposition can be expected to care for immediate action starting on monday as soon as possible (unless the PM then sees what he is going to commit by time and yet comes up with a request to the EU) In the case the - now-to-expect - order of the supreme court is going to be misattended - which is then ruled to be officially illegal - , the PM has to step down. Immediately. Plus facing hard legal consequences. Yes there is a crisis on the course now. For GB, the UK and for Europe. Johnson is the cause for this now-arising additional problem which can put him off duty as fast as he can even expect.

Of course Jeremy wants to honour the 2016 referendum result but just wants us to stay in the Single Market & Customs Union ie The EU !!! The weasel. If he is so concerned about the economy & jobs the best thing he can do is resign & pledge that his & John McDonnell's policies will never be implemented.

It’s fantastic for the people of this country including me that this man has resigned. His days ever since he got exposed over the parties were numbered. This country once stood proud as a strong, solid unit known as the United Kingdom. Thanks to BJ it’s anything but that today with constant PR twisted rubbish, huge division north to south, west to east and most importantly a new level of political stupidity that even the Americans couldn’t reach despite the horrendous and stupid gun laws they have. It’s time now that as the people of the United Kingdom we come together to take down Tory rule as it’s time they get put into their place. They’ve run this country into the ground bit by bit each year since they won vs Labour over a decade ago. As a nation it’s time to show who really has the brains. This country should always be about the people and never in a million ,billion or even trillion years would Tory government rule show that. Labour Party need to be back in power as they can get us out of the living crisis we’re currently in thanks to the Conservative party

UK, please leave and let the EU and the rest of the world move on! We all want the EU to say 'we are not into this anymore! we have important things to do, not like the British playing political games!' The only thing the British wanted a day after the EU Referendum in 2016 was to VOTE AGAIN. I remember many British, young people mostly, regretting not having gone to the polls to vote because they thought that the 'Leave' would never win and they considered their votes as not necessary... I remember those people saying 'they were tired after work to go to the polls,' 'they had appointments,' 'they had a party,' etc. In summary, it was the British people's not willing to vote what caused all this disaster and waste of time and money to all Europe! The only solution was to hold a Second referendum back in 2016! Until today, Oct 20th, 2019, that position never changed!
