I am a university researcher. The whole point is to collaborate, write paper together, split the work. The money you get is decent but the sharing of knowledge and facilities is what makes us able to compete with the US or China. Also, most of the money you get from this projects goes into instruments, labs, PhD scholarships… There is no secret plan from professors to have any personal monetary gain from this. GB News isn't a news channel despite it having News in it's name. It was set up with £60 million by some billionaires who wanted a propaganda channel for right-wing opinions. They weren't happy with the established channels' unbiased(?) coverage of politics. I say traditional channels were unbiased(?) but if you're a Scottish viewer supporting independence you would detect plenty of bias from all English originated news organizations, even when based in Scotland and produced here. Everyone has to pay a hefty licence fee to the BBC to access live terrestrial TV from any channels (their viewpoint reflects the government view so we aren't allowed not to hear it!). They always have a very Unionist perspective on everything and constantly push the line to Scots on how awful everything is because of the SNP.

A year before Brexit I was part of a multinational team working on taxonomic genetic studies, we were originally going to work with and from Nottingham University but as soon as we realized where things were going we went to a more welcoming environment. Most of us didn't want to go work in the UK in the first place, but it was one of the best places to conduct the study from, we ended up setting up base in France and it was great so I guess something good did come out of Brexit?

Just imagine an elegant dinner party chez Tice'n'Oakshott; they've invited Nigel Farage and Tommy Robinson to provide the intellectual muscle and reasoned debate, and Anne Widdecom to bring the old-school glamour and wit. What a selection of intelligence and charm - quite puts one in mind of the famous table at the Algonquin Club.
