I had no idea that the celebration horse had to be changed. Although I do not enjoy the look of halter horses, there is no need to shame or threaten people who do. Personally, I am super excited for Breyerfest 2021 as it being online is the only way I could attend one. From what I can tell, they seem to be trying to address the problems from 2020, which they did not have to do.

I do live in the south but am planning on moving soon so I know I will most likely never be able to spend the money for a trip, hotel, tickets, etc. Thr fact that it's online means I'll be able to attend my first breyerfest finally, like you. Even though it's not the same, I'm still glad I can get that opportunity.

Hi! I’m sure my comment will be lost in the others, but I feel the need to write this too. Personally, I did not agree with celebrating a halter bred horse nor did I believe it was right to celebrate the owner (I won’t say his name out of respect). However, I certainly did not take this as an opportunity to threaten or bad mouth the owner, nor should anybody else have taken it as an excuse to do so. If someone disagreed with the horse they had other options (like calmly and respectfully emailing Breyer with their concerns, or had BF been in person, just don’t visit the horse and give the owner your time). The threats were absolutely uncalled for. Am I glad Intuit isn’t the celebration horse anymore? Yeah, and I’ll admit that. Am I supportive of how negative the hobby became at that time? Absolutely not. That being said, I don’t have much respect for the owner anymore since he went out of his way to make a video in which he called all of us in the hobby “idiots”, claiming we know nothing about real horses. We are in this hobby because we are passionate about horses. We strive to learn about all breeds and disciplines. We learn about anatomy and the various coat colors to be able to create works of art. We are here because we love horses. In my opinion, he stooped to the level of those who sent him the threats and violent words when he called all of us “idiots”. I personally loved the model, but definitely love the new celebration horse way better. Anyway, that’s just my two cents too. I love your artwork and can’t wait for more stickers! I’m so addicted!

I agree 100% with everything said here. I also don’t support this kind of use towards horses. But the people doing it are going to continue even more so if the hate is so aggressive. There are mature ways to sway people’s opinions & end industries. Generally these ways are not linked to harsh social media posts. For sure! Breyer made a mistake. It didn’t need to be a huge explosion. It could have been personal emails just as you’ve said.

I have nearly 5000 Breyers. I am obviously obsessed! But it IS a hobby. I breed Friesians. Know what I did when Breyer decided to "celebrate" a chestnut Friesian? Nothing. It was simple. Just because I disagreed with it doesn't mean it can't be created! The ability to avoid face-to-face on a continuous basis has made a lot of people overly aggressive and socially acceptable behavior is degraded beyond repair. Thank you Breyer, for putting up with things that should not be tolerated, yet are.

Threats to people are never okay. I am glad that they changed the celebration horse as the horse was not to be celebrated at all. The person behind the breeding isn't a good person either, and I'm glad that someone with such a big influence and problematic statements is not being celebrated. Do I think Bradshaw is a good person? No. He has many beliefs that are problematic that needed to be addressed and the lack of research on the people that Breyer was, at that point promoting, was what made me personally frustrated with the situation. I personally think that Breyer, some collectors, and the equestrian industry in general, need to realize that the times we are in are moving past ALOT of ideas still held in the community. If Breyer wants to support a man that has said many problematic things, it's alright if that is called out. Getting into the industry later in my life makes me look at it differently, and just how conservative it is in the Breyer company, and with the entire industry. I wish that people are able to say "Breyer, we don't support this horse, nor the person behind it, and we would like you to change it." Rather than resorting to threats, as then valid concerns of people are muddled by the unnecessary hate spread. Overall, I'm glad that the horse was changed, I'm glad that Bradshaw is not part of Breyerfest, and I'm glad that we can hopefully learn from this experience and how to actually handle concerns like this in the future.

To add, some of my opinions on Breyer as a company did change from this incident, as they did react harshly to my friend who called them out, and proceeded to block them after a multiple hour-long phone call, where he basically lost all connection he had with the company directly, because of his opposition to Bradshaw being part of Breyerfest. He is now looked down on by Breyer, and many members of the community, for an opinion I find completely valid. Since I do have this personal thing my opinions are slightly skewed against Breyer in this situation, along with being big into political correctness and being part of the lgbt community.

So I agree that it went too far that they got threatened etc, BUT this is 100% not something I would support, especially since the model was gorgeous and much better than the real animal. People with less knowledge would see the Breyer and think that it’s okay to have a horse look like that. I think the best thing Breyer has done is cancelling that model. Basically, I agree that it shouldn’t have been so extreme, but I also think that Breyer has such a big influence on so many people that they really need to look at what they’re supporting!

@@avikasixfour2362 - and yet there's still people like you making false claims like Intuit couldn't be ridden, and halter horses can't be ridden. He's HYPP free, and carries one copy of PSSM1. That does not automatically mean he's symtomatic. He retired because that's what many successful stallions in most discilpines do when they've won a World or National title - they retire to the breeding shed. How many of those extreme arab halter horse, kites on a string, that win World Championships come back as performance horses?? This is not exclusive to halter horses. Do you not realize that most of them are worked and fitted up to have that muscle man look? You know what happens to body builders when they stop the routines to make them look that way? They slim down and look more normal. Same is true for halter horses. Some cannot be ridden, but MOST can. And if you want to stop the breeding of single copy HYPP and PSSM1 horses, you'll need to take that up with the breed organizations. They disallowed homozygous HYPP carriers, but still allow single copy carriers (50% chance to pass on or not). QHs, paints and appaloosas have soo much of that in their bloodlines, it would take decades and decades to breed it out. Take it up with the judges who consistently place the most extreme body types, vs the more athletic all around types from 25/30 years ago. People who show for a living will breed for, and buy, what's winning...

Thank you for this video! Looking at the social media sites (not just this community) I feel like the current situation and the lockdowns and the restrictions made a lot of people angry, agressive, and doesn't matter how hard a company tries they can't make everybody happy. And of course always those people are the loudest who are not happy. I hope Breyer believes in the numbers and not in the comments they get. If people were so upset and there was so much hate they would not buy models. But as I see this is not the case. (I even see people getting extremely upset because they can not spend hundreds of dollars on a plastic horse ((becasue they miss an event or a limited run))... I wish I had that kind of problem lol) I live in Hungary, we have no Breyer products in this country so I have to order horses from other countries. I don't have access to everything but I'm still grateful for what I can get. For the second time I can buy tickets for BreyerFest which is amazing! For me personally, Breyerfest was the reason I discovered Lexington and the Kentucky Horse Park and I'll still go there in July regardless of Breyerfest. essentially, the real life horse has a terrible genetic disease, bad conformation and poor health all as a result of his "halter" breeding. he's extremely overmuscled and cannot be ridden because of that. this wouldn't be such a big deal if his owners didn't intentionally breed him that way for the sole purpose of having a halter horse. the breyer version of the model looks nothing like the actual horse's build. although I entirely disagree with the threats being sent to the owners, I totally understand the outrage. this sort of abusive breeding shouldn't be condoned, especially since he was going to be a celebration horse. it's definitely not something to be "celebrating".

He showed successfully and is now a sire. His owners did not breed him, they bought him. There's no reason he cannot be ridden, halter horses are ridden all the time. Most champion halter horses are not as they're shown, and then retired to make more. Those are facts, not fear mongering and hate.

I was extremely upset with the virtual for second year in a row because I am so worried about KHP...BF is their biggest event and they very well may not survive the pandemic. I don't know how true it is but I was told by an employee there that Breyer had promised the KHP would be back in 2021, which if true is upsetting because I personally do believe social distancing protocols could have been put in place. I am worried we will not have another in person event now, but I'm hoping the popularity of the live show will bring it back. HOWEVER , they knocked all the special runs and limited editions out the park and I can tell they've really tried to step it up for collectors to make it up for us. They are giving us special runs that are in my humble opinion are the (design wise anyway) quality of horses that we would have only usually seen in the live auction models. Whoever is behind their model design is doing fantastic. The new celebration horse is gorgeous and so much better than the first, so even though it may have been ugly for Breyer it definitely worked out better in the end (and I would personally much rather support Dani's owners than Terry Bradshaw but that said he didn't deserve personal attacks).

Nobody should have been promising anything for 2021. I don’t see live events coming back like this for a couple of years more. People aren’t good at following rules: as evident by the state of the world. So an online event is a must. And that will likely be the way it is, for at least the next 2 years. I find that incredibly childish, and it makes all of us look bad. I don't like halter bred horses, but threats to the owner aren't going to change anything about his joy of of owning/breeding such horses, and especially won't change his mind given how it was handled by those who chose to act in such a manner. Aside from all that, it's not Intuit's fault he is like he is, and he deserves to live his horsey life without people upset over him being made a plastic pony threatening his life. People love plastic horses because they love the real animals first. If there are breeders who do not care if the corses are healthy as long as they are what they consider „beautiful“ people get upset. I am very happy that people are asking questions and think for themselves, but many people didn‘t learn how to communicate in peace wich is very sad.

In retrospect to all of this, the whole situation was a mess. The timing was unfortunate as it was right around the time of US elections which caused tension for everyone to spike even more than just from the pandemic. Some hate was thrown at Bradshaw for his views on things not related to the horse, which I still haven't looked into the claims to see if he's really as bad as folks said so I can't say whether I agree with how those people felt or not. I still don't think it was right to go after him so hard for it when the situation with the horse was not related. I also feel, however, that his response video on Thanksgiving was quite odd and in poor taste. I don't think anyone deserves harassment. But I felt he handled the response poorly as someone who has been in the public eye for many years and has certainly been criticized for things before. If it had come from someone who wasn't used to being in the spotlight, I'd be a bit more understanding. The fact that he wasn't able to deal with this in a tactful manner was just baffling to me. And of course, the speculation regarding the horse itself was tricky. I understand that many folks are serious animal lovers and the idea that an animal that has been placed on a pedestal could be suffering undoubtedly got under people's skin. I do think there may have been some misinformation being passed around about what the horse did or did not experience or his genetic testing that could have exacerbated things. Not being someone who has studied equines/vet medicine in depth that is not my area of expertise to say for sure. There's also the fact that the way halter horses are bred (most of them anyway it seems?) is for exaggerated features, some of which may not lead to a long and functional life for the animal. I think many people would agree that while it is a niche part of the industry, it's not representative of Appaloosas in general, and folks had an issue with him being in the spotlight, where people who don't know as much about horses may see that and go, "oh, so that's what an Appaloosa looks like" since a large portion of the in-person BFest goers aren't serious horse folk. (This was before we knew it would not be in person for 2021 so that possibility was still there.) Probably the most important part, IMO, was the involvement of the real horse community in all of this. We have to remember that this was NOT just us getting involved. From what I can recall, there were some real horse groups that got very vocal over this, and perhaps were the ones who took things too far and sent threats. I NEVER saw any confirmation that any threats sent directly to the Bradshaws came from hobbyists. I do think some hobbyists got a bit carried away with how they talked about Intuit/Breyer and I don't agree with their approach to doing so. Plenty of people also made more diplomatic remarks, or at the very least contacted Breyer directly without making a fuss publicly. Personally, I think all of those factors combined resulted in a big ball of mess which just kept snowballing, and quickly. I am relieved that the Bradshaws pulled Intuit themselves and Breyer did not have to make that choice. The silver lining in all this is we ended up with one of the most well received celebration horses I've ever seen, Dani! Knowing that she would have been a store special otherwise, I'm so glad she's the one who was bumped to celebration status. Both the real horse and the model are gorgeous, and I'm so happy that everyone who wants one will be able to get her a lot more easily now. I've hardly seen anyone say they'd rather it still be Intuit, and when I did see it, it was from people who prefer the mold used for him over Dani's mold and not so much about the real horse himself. And to end, I'd say good on you for taking the time to make this a couple months after it all settled, instead of trying to get into it in the moment. While I do see there being some scars that last for a while, it does seem like things have started to heal (for this anyway, people have moved on). Breyer has been going through so much in the past year, and the fact that the folks there seem very resilient and determined to make things work somehow brings me hope. Their shipping company isn't exactly on my good side following the whole "hey we'll ship all the items in you ordered together SEPARATELY" thing, but that's ultimately not Breyer's fault.

To buy ONE model is the equivalent of TWO tanks of gas. Sooner or later Breyer will price themselves out of range. I also hate the artificially created shortage of certain runs that can only be obtained at a Breyerfest and only if you buy the dinner ticket. I went to the very first Breyerfest and I dubbed it Greedfest. I had never seen such price gouging for plastic models. I've only been to one other and that trend didn't abate. I've been collecting models for over 30+ yrs and now have to decide if the model I like is worth that gas exchange or putting food on the table.

Nobody is telling you to collect or attend the festivals. There is a solid second hand market for affordably prices models. If it is not something you enjoy spending money on, that’s ok. It’s not for everyone. No need to shame the entire company for your opinion.

never collected Breyers avidly ive only got 8, I collect sindy horses(I think they ar Johnny west horses over in the USA but they are 1/6 scale) and custom them, and followed some of your tutorials , never knew of this big who-har but the pic you showed of the actual horse did look kinda weird to me and I would probably not want it and as I have signed a petition to ban the "big lick" as its cruel so I wouldn't buy the TWH thats standing in that exaggerated way either but death threat to the model company are going a bit far.
