the big difference between the two Hannibals is that Cox portrayed a more cynical, cold blooded, smoother talking Lecter... actually the kind of psychopaths that exist in real life... Hopkins portrayed a more hollywoody Lecter... he acted the part of the scary, freaky, over the top gory killer that from the start of a movie is described as a cannibal... in Manhunter they never mention in detail about how Lecter killed his victims... Graham in one scene only mentions that he did it in very bad ways... and Lecter himself mentions that he heard about the emotional problems that has the first officer that saw his basement... that is what makes Cox's Lecter scarier in my pinion... that you actually don't know how terrifying, sick or violent the guy can be...

CactusG26 true you don’t get ass big a idea that Hannibal Lecter is a bad person on Manhunter as you do on The Silence of the Lambs coz The Silence of The Lambs takes place later on in the Hannibal Lecter Story than what Manhunter dose so there for more people have found out what Hannibal Lecter is really like and the thing with Hannibal Lecter is the more People find out what he’s really like the less he hides him self like on The film Hannibal it’s even more obvious that he’s a bad person he’s more Derain than Bryan Cox much Anthony Hopkins is much more Sinister and Bryan Cox Hannibal Lecter isn’t any more realistic than Anthony Hopkins Hannibal Lecter in real life you get Psychopaths that seem weird and Sinister as well as charming just ripe in Albert Fisher

The silence of the Lambs has the really Eerie music Manhunter has the really cheesy 1980s music. The Silence of the Lambs has a really Gritty feel Manhunter has a really 1980s feel to it very much like the fist Terminator Fillmore dose

Brian Cox is a vastly under rated actor. He adds a touch of real class to everything that he's in and is always modest and unassuming. My first memory of him was in a classic TV series called Manhunt that was made in the late 1960s and I've been a loyal fan since then. He has a great speaking voice and I particularly enjoy his performances as James McLevy in a long running series on radio 4.

Micheal Sean O'Dubhghaill Who the fuck underrates actors ?? If the public wants you ... you will get more action and more important roles . He played in 202 movies ... lots of them very important. ... like: 25'th Hour , Troy, Zodiac , Braveheart , Manhunter, The Bourne Trilogy , Rob Roy , The Boxer etc. Had a great chance to be like Al Pacino if he wanted that . Who is putting down Brian Cox ... and why isn't he the Marlon Brando we all want him to be ?? It's bullshit because .... in the end ... if the public likes you ... you will get a new gig and a more important role in that gig . The big break for Anthony Hopkins was Silence of the Lambs . Now .... Brian also played Hannibal .... why the fuck did he not make a bigger impact with the chance that he got with that movie . I saw that movie thanks to the trilogy Hopkins played in ... and that trilogy is made famous by Hopkins ... not by the other actors around Hopkins. So who doesn't let Brian Cox be as famous as Hopkins ... if you want to compare the two . There must be a mafia involved . The mafia of Brian Cox . Maybe because he doesn't have a good face for a leading role ?? Maybe because he doesn't have charisma or intensity like great actors have ??But Brian had a great chance ... he played in important movies . To give you an idea ... Daniel Day Lewis ... has 28 movies on the IMDB list . Brian Cox has 202 on the IMDB list . 10 times as much almost. WHY does Daniel Day Lewis have 3 Oscars for a leading actor and Brian Cox doesn't even have a nomination for an Oscar ... not even for the Best Supporting Actor category ? Trivia: Has no fewer than three roles in common with Anthony Hopkins. They have both played Titus Andronicus, and both of them played King Lear while the other was simultaneously playing Hannibal Lecter. Anthony Hopkins is great because ...well .... because people actually like watching him ... and because he takes his roles more seriously . Even Stallone ... who is maybe the worst actor ever .... is getting the attention because he actually knows how to get it . He has a formula of success. He doesn't play Shakespeare for example . And he has a nomination for an Oscar for Rocky . People actually enjoy watching Stallone ... that is the main thing .

And he felt real. There isn't a moment in the film that makes him into Anthony-like all-knowing hyper-intelligent supervillain. The most lovable thing about sir Cox's performance is that not even for a moment you are able to doubt that you can pass a human being like that on a street. *He is real and that is frightening* . While Anthony's Lecter, while infinitely charming, feels as if he's read the script, knows everything at any given moment.

Eh, I watched every movie (including Manhunter) in the last two days. He was great, but I gotta be honest-I prefer Hopkins. @billywood2814 Жыл бұрын
He was scary because you knew so little about him and the influence he had on the case in man hunter while behind bars made you wonder what he was capable of outside those bars, no need to see him bite somebody’s face when he did so much damage to the case with one call then he sends that book code through the tattler and the book to the killer which they can’t find because he sent it another way and they couldn’t find it in his cell. He had them running in circles and the journalist gets killed because he tricked them as he knew what Will would do and left little clues like the letter and the letters that would let them know about the tattler. That’s genius.

Graham thought that way BECAUSE he had those urges. He almost went over the edge the last case, which is why he "retired" to Florida. So here's my thought. Brian Cox played Lecter in his prime, freshly incarcerated and sparring with someone(Graham) he almost considers an equal. Couldn't agree with you more. He appeared to be " naturally insane" and so it was much more believable and therefore much more frightening....as this type of individual could easily move about in society and we unconsciously know that. Hopkins is a great actor but the insanity he portrayed was more obvious and therefore the average person would never allow such a person into their lives, i.e. as their doctor.

jimtrueblue99 Brian cox Hannibal looks like a guy you'd meet at a bar. Cox is an amazing actor, but there is a reason why Hopkins got an oscar after only 16 minutes of screen time, his portrayal of lecter was one of a kind. It will be remembered for decades, hence why people think of Hopkins when someone mentions Hannibal lecter. Hannibal is supposed to be unique, stand out, someone who seemed very different from the rest. Cox portrayal made him seem too much like an average man. Hannibal isn't average, he just has to hide his sinister personality. Cox has no reason to hide it, but he still acted like the average person
