A very entertaining interview Vincent Price gave to British chat show host Terry Wogan in 1982.

I heard him once claim that he used to sit in cinemas behind young girls who were watching his films, and at an opportune moment moment would lean forward and say (in his inimitable voice) "Are you enjoying the movie, ladies?" and giggle himself as they jumped out of their skins. What a legend.

Vincent Price had more grace, dignity, and sophistication in the dirt under his fingernails than most of us will ever have in our entire lifetimes. But what really made him a gem is that he never forgot his humanity because of it. He always remained humble, humorous, and kind. Despite his exquisite tastes, he was neither snobby or selfish, and worked in a variety of genres considered both high and low brow. He dedicated much time, effort, and money to aiding and encouraging others in their own artistic aspirations. He was also an outspoken opponent of racism, religious prejudice, and homophobia. Vincent Price was a man who could climb Mt. Everest and never lose sight of the ground where he started from, and we lost so much when we lost him. But I suppose he couldn't have lived forever; he just looked too good in that coffin!

All you say of Vinnie is true. I could not have asked for a better friendship - he, and of course, the wonderfully witty and intellectually inclined Coral Browne are both sorely missed. More grace, sophistication and talent beyond the role of an actor … his talents were human etched with the most eloquent of dialect and portraiture. I could go on for hours.

They don't make men of such talent anymore. One of his greatest qualities as an actor is that he has such a sense of humor about himself, and does not take himself and his success very seriously. Humor, and the unspoken joke has always been an underlying element in any dialogue between him and his accomplices. I am sure he enjoyed every bit of his work, and would not call it "work." "second -hand millionaire!" :)

the UK has sent so many fantastic actors over to the US like sir Christopher Lee, sir Sean Connery, and sir Anthony Hopkins, and has produced many brilliant authors like Shakespeare or Charles Dickens. Well the US has Vincent Price and Edgar Allan Poe so HA! Cultureless Americans? I think not. I hope more brilliant people like Price and Lee will appear because they make films and acting into an art and we really need more well spoken, polite and brilliant people like Vincent in this world. =)

No, Vincent was a midwesterner (St. Louis) born and bred, and off camera had a distinctive flat twang and no compupnctution about dropping his "g's." This is his "chat show voice," something he often fell into because it was "expected" of him -- I'm sure heightened by the delight of a return to his second home, London, where his actor's ear would pick up the accents around him. Also he had just spent 5 years on tour with the Wilde show, and retained that vocal quality for a while after.

You know despite being an American like him I do love how he so embraces the English side of acting and works in movies with more class than the cliche or stupid stuff we see today. I enjoy a slasher flick every now and then but I now see that the Universal and Hammer flicks, or anything Price was in as a few examples were more serious and scary. Like Lon Chaney Jr. said there's blood for the sake of blood. Once it was atmosphere and acting. We need more guys like Price in the genre.
