As a professional Astrophysicist, I can answer a couple of questions here. "When exactly will Betelgeuse go supernova?" Sometime in the next 100000 years (it may already have done so and the light is travelling to us) "What magnitude of impact will it have on Earth?". None, except we'll have something the brightness of the full moon in the sky for a few weeks. And Brian Cox has NEVER suggested that we won't survive this.

Given its 625 light years away the earth is unlikely to suffer anything from Betleguese going bang for 625 years!

@@rodtrenton7338 yes so any light or other matter from BG will take 625 years to reach Earth - nothing, as far as we know, travels faster than light.

Brian Cox is brilliant. I really enjoy how he lays out his views. What will really happen and When remains to be seen.

The ancient Greek astronomer TMY? Do you perhaps mean Ptolemy?
@philstraintravels9281Ай бұрын
I was wondering that as well.

Clearly the compiler has no idea about the topic or history. I therefore assume most of this presentation is overhyped twaddle. AKA, WOFTAM.

Greek Astronomer TMY? How ignorant are you? Try Ptolemy.
