This song always reminds me of the toughest time in my life. The day I bought a 6 pack of chicken nuggets from a drive-thru McDonalds, and then when I got home, found that there were only 5 nuggets in the pack. As you can imagine, I was devastated. The sadness I felt, the shock, the grief, the profound sense of loss, it was almost too much to bear. I kept asking myself: why? Why did this happen to me? Somehow, I got through it. And today, I remind myself that if I could survive that, I can overcome anything.

+Daniel Norbury I had a similar experience. I ordered a brandy with one ice cube the other day and when the barman brought it I found he'd put two ice cubes in the drink !! I'm sure you can relate to that, you've been there. It just makes you think , maybe we are all alone in the cosmos.

I can't help but cry every time I listen to this piece. I just feel like letting go of all the feelings I bottle up throughout the day. This song evokes melancholy, yearning, loss, but also, love, hope, and eternity. One of the best pieces of music ever created.

+AjaOfVeelox Completely agree. This might sound ghoulish, but I'm happy to know that I've told my nearest and dearest that this is the the tune I want played as my coffin enterers the cremation furnace. Just let it all go, and embrace the goodness that remains. Such perfectly beautiful music.

+Dennis Taylor This not to take anything away from this beautiful piece, but if Eno called it Synth Piece 23, or Our Beautiful Planet Home, it would not have the resonance and emotional impact it does. Eno is an incredibly smart guy. I believe he chose the words used for the name of this piece carefully, with intent. To clarify what the depth of emotion the song was meant to bring forth was about. To me it has always been the loss of a loved one. I don't know. Maybe I am reading to much into it. Maybe it's not about personal loss. Instead about our ending on this birthplace planet and, as a species, ascending to the stars.

This is originally from the documentary "For All Mankind", dedicated to the astronauts and cosmonauts who had died up to that point. The ending of a mortal life, ascension to a better place. Brian Eno must have tapped into something deep to create this unforgettable music.

This song is a wonder of emotion. It makes me feel nostalgic remembering my childhood, hopeful of how the future will hold, sad at how we treat each other and the world, and depressing at how everything will one day end. You, me, the earth and sun will all one day cease to exist.

I remember when I first experienced this song. I lived in a quite small apartment with not much room and I had troubles sleeping at night.. So I tried to listen to some relaxing music, and discovered this. From nowhere it came to me and embraced me... My small apartment suddenly felt as if it was the deepest of space, and me myself felt as if I was surrounded by a pale blue light in zero gravity... I've never experienced anything like that ever from music.. Not even the music I deeply love.. That is why this song has a very important place in my heart.

The images of Earth in this video are amazing, coupled with this music it is awe inspiring. To think how lucky you are to be given just a little time on this beautiful rock you call home, drifting through the vast, black, endless space... But I can't help looking at the land masses, the countries and continents below and thinking of the misery and mayhem that a lot of you are causing to your fellow human beings, to your planet and all its living things.. You are guilty, all of you, but some more than others... Every single one of you have been blessed with time on this planet, and should be grateful and cherish what you have.. How long has the Earth been here?.. In the blink of an eye you have damaged my Earth and its inhabitants more than it has ever seen... Remember, You are not the only ones who need this planet, there have been thousands of generations before you, and there are thousands of generations to come.... Earth is a living, breathing planet, still in its infancy, do not abuse it. My Earth does not belong to you. It is you that belongs to it..... Remember also that I am always with you, for it is only then, that I can help you......... Yours sincerely, God.................. End of transmission.

I saw everyone waving at me on either side of me...except they were behind what looked like a sheer veil...then I ended up in in a field on a hillside...I was floating through the air......it was a bright sunny day...I heard all the voices of my relatives who had died before me...but they were behind me and I was afraid to look behind me...the sun was shining so bright...then just as I went to turn around I felt rain on my face, looked up in the black night sky and saw a paramedic pounding on my chest...saving me from the horrible car accident that I just encountered. 51 seconds ago

I remember the first time I heard this song, I was with my dad and we were watching the movie 'Traffic' at the theatre. Once this song came on during the ending credits, I couldn't help but be struck by how beautiful it is. It gives you a sense of peace and pain. It kinda sums up everything we had just watched in the movie. This song just fits perfectly! I love it. Then, I remember hearing it again during the horse scene in '28 days later.' Tonight, I was with my dad at the movie's and I surprised when this song came on at the ending credits of the movie 'Beatriz at Dinner.' It was surprising, but beautiful.

Upon repeated views I'm plagued by our universal conundrum. Why can't we all just get along and take care of our wondrous home as our creator made it? Simple? Yes. Easy? No. But surely, if, as the "big question" still looms, why are we here? To mindfully and cooperatively facilitate this simple mandate is surely the answer. The warnings signs are ushered ever more often and emphatically, yet we blunder mindlessly down our ill chosen paths.

Terry Barham Is it because we are basically just inherently flawed ? Intolerant and too easily prone to conflict and violence ? Add greed, lust for power and race and its just like one big ghetto. The religious might say it is the influence of the devil in us. For me, music like this shows us what could be possible.

In my opinion, this is only second to Aphex Twin's Rhubarb in terms of greatest ambient songs. Both are in an extremely rare category of songs without lyrics that can seriously affect the decisions you make, and the way that you think about life. If I ever get euthanised, it will be one of these two songs that I'll choose to die to.

This song kinda gives me the feeling that I've died and have since ascended into the emptiness of the afterlife. Devoid of all my memories, just stuck with my final emotions when I pass. It makes me feel all warm up inside.

I hear my Dads words when I hear this theme Ray Cook 1942-1985 the best of best Dads, miss him every day but now I am 11 years older than he was when he left this world and a Grandad 4 times over but still I would give up 5 years of my life to have just 1 hour and 1 minute on that seat in the park and talk to him (And kiss him good buy one more time) hearing his words of wisdom . Good night Dad see you soon . x

One of the most haunting pieces of music i have ever heard. This would be ideal for Remembrance Sunday played in the background whilst they show those old films of soldiers going over the top and showing them in the trenches. No commentary would be needed the music would create the situation. A wonderful haunting track which i always love to listen to.

The comments aren't actually between two people, they're a bunch of people commenting on the same thing. And it's not even word for word :(

Touching melody on all levels...I am in tears listening and watching and asking why my fellow South Africans are looting & burning our bellowed country of South Africa. Fear, chaos, destruction and no fear of repercussions. When you look down from space you really see how insignificant worldly issues are in the contrast of cosmos.

***** Solar system is 'just our sun and the planets', right? :) The diameter is about 15000000000 km...Usain Bolt's top speed is about 38 km/h. Which means, if he were to run across the solar system (just the sun and the planets), he would take 45061 years
