Yes, there are no problems))) I am glad to meet like-minded people. After all, soon a generation will disappear altogether, for which that music is like a holy scripture. And the Twins do not say anything (((( Therefore, we need to talk ....

I feel likewise. The Glimmer Twins have changed their stories many times. Now Keith is admitting they did wrong to Brian, while before he said it was all Brian's fault. What a liar! I have people write to me with questions about Brian and I do my best to tell the truth as I know it.

Excellent, and much, much better quality than I uploaded a few years ago. To forestall certain comments - thinking Brian was great doesn't mean thinking Jagger-Richard(s) were rubbish and/or bastards. He was the first Stone and they're the greatest group. He'd have loved that.

Brian was great when it came to playing instruments, but Mick and Keith pulled it together with songwriting. They were all talented as their own individuals. Charlie is a great drummer and Bill is great at bass.

It would be fantastic if the entire "Mord und Totschlag" soundtrack could be relocated and restored - it would silence Brian's critics for good. If I had a dollar for every time I had heard "Oh, but Brian Jones didn't/couldn't write anything, Mick and Keith were the musical brains," I'd be as rich as Donald Trump (or even Mick Jagger). A big shout-out to you Rollover1970 for uploading this. Thank you KZbin.

Are you joking "Silence the critics for good"? It opens the flood gates. If the Stones music were all like this, I'd never be a Rolling Stones fan. The Who would've been my favourite group! Pete could compose music and Pete could blow the doors off with his guitar. But thanks to Mick Jagger's swagger and Keith's cool plus their coolest songs ever written with or without Brian Jones, The Stones will always be number one for me as they are for Pete quoting PeteTownshend.

In fact just to be fair, I gave it another listen and wish that I hadn't. It does have his nice ornamentaion but infantile as a composition. Radical but senseless changes that are overly repetetive with a flat melody line and his harp playing almost goes somehwere but then never goes anywhere. I agree with Ian Stewart in the "Stu Speaks" interview wheh he said "Brian couldn't write." No Jagger, no Richards, no Satisfaction and no Stones songs. if you don't like what Jagger and Richards did then quite simply you're not a Rolling Stones fan period.

You are right-Jagger and Richards weren't all that "fan oriented". That is why the authorities really went after Brian. He was the weakest psychologically and they attacked him with the view to causing him to totally break down. They very nearly succeeded.

@ David Rogers - Absolutely. It takes far greater skill to compose a film score than write a four minute song. The composer has to formulate the musical output around the dramatic plot and take into account the emotional complexities of the characters. Apparently a film company has the rights to the soundtrack and Volker Schlöndorff has made several petitions to get the music released. With the 50th anniversary of Brian's death in 2019 approaching, we can only hope and pray that his fans get to hear the work in its entirety.

Listening to, Beggars banquet and then, Sticky fingers you take out those moments of magic from all the Early Brian era albums. Even when he was totally blaked he could produce great feeling through his instrumentation and musicality. Real haunting moments such as, Ruby tuesday and Jigsaw puzzle. But for me if you listen to Under my thumb's Marimba and then the post, Brian versions you here the souless guitar hacking of the song and riff by Richard and co, you realise what Brian was and inadvertantly or reluctantly became, a musical genius! They didn't need another guitarist, they needed another, Brian.

1. Mick & Keith knocked Brian's confidence to write and present to the band. Plus they were doing pretty well, obviously. 2. Brian indulged too much and did not turn up for work. He lacked discipline & application. 3. His mental & physical health presented a barrier. 4. He surrounding himself with the wrong people. 5. Being unpleasant to others (said Charlie) YET - a real shame, as this proves he had it in him if only he'd got his health & mind together and focused.... and forged a solo career with the right supporting musicians around him. Here's a point to ponder: NO ROLLING STONES - without Brian's initiative to form the band with Ian in 1962. Then M&K, then Bill, then Charlie. NO BEATLES - if Lennon (1940) & McCartney (1942) had been born a year or so earlier and had been forced to do British "National Service"

I have mixed feelings about this. I thinks it's good and I'm not denying that Brian wasn't talented, but I just feel it's a bit upbeat and country for something like a 'Degree of Murder'. I feel Brian could've maybe written a song if he had the chance, but writing songs is sometimes harder than it seems.

And at the risk of many attacks from the usual suspects, this music by Brian Jones demonstrates exactly why he was good at ornamentaion but not a song writer. It sounds like exactly what it is, a litte better than a cheesy soundtrack from a 1960's B movie. Break out the go go dancers and Austin Powers! Thank God for Mick Jagger and Keith Richards for doing the songwriting for the Rolling Stones. I rest my case.

Marianne Faithfull has stated this fact on a number of different occasions. Mick Jagger says that he made no contribution to the song (despite it being credited as a Jagger/Richards song). Also note the comments of Stan Blackbourne, who was The Stones' accountant in the mid-sixties: “I used to say to Brain, ‘What on earth are you doing?‘ "You write some of these songs, and you give the name over as if Mick Jagger has done it. Do you understand, you’re giving ‘em thousands of pounds!’ All the time I used to tell him, ‘You’re writing a blank check.’” The question is how many other songs did he contribute to? The sound of the RS is certainly very different after his time with the band.
@agrippinatheyounger1762
@agrippinatheyounger1762 7 жыл бұрын
I have no axe to grind. My mother preferred the RS to The Beatles ("No one comes close to Paul, John, George and Ringo, darling mama" was my incredulous response). But I explored the RS catalogue and it was when I did this that I found something seemed to be amiss. Just who was that cool guy with the glossy, blonde hair banging out the melodies on those weird and wonderful instruments? I knew that Brian Jones had drowned, but he seemed marginal to the history of The Stones. I delved further and made my own investigations. I discovered a whole different story to the one that has been told, and both Mick and Keef have been damning of him and his memory. Indeed, Keef described him "a rotting appendage." It is tragic Brian never received proper recognition, either when he was alive or in the period since his death.
@palacerevolution2000
@palacerevolution2000 7 жыл бұрын
Marianne said something different. She said "Ruby Tuesday is Keith's". Simple as that. Yes, Brian's recorder dominates the song, leads the song, probably inspired the song. But this is the huge difference between songwriters and non-writers. It takes a writer to recognize a phrase, pick it out, and assign it. Or use it. This is in no way a sleight to countless superb musicians, who contribute, and often make or break a song. Jeff Beck, IMO one of the greatest guitarist around can't write a song. This whole type of issue has caused many heated arguments. Bill Wyman claiming he came up with the riff for JJF. He probably did. But much like Brian doodling on the recorder with that lovely phrase, or Bill banging on the piano - had Keith not walked by at that minute, and said "Hold it, what's that?" and went on the bang around on it, the phrase would have floated away forgotten. I think every member of the Stones has been invaluable and brought so much to the history: Jagger, Keith, Brian, Bill Charlie, Taylor and Ron. The Stones would not be where they are now, without Brian; simple as that.
