It's the perfect song for Brian May because his PhD thesis was about interplanetary dust! As of this writing, Dr. Brian May is 74 years old, and he's the kindest and most soft spoken person I have ever seen and heard among the vast sea of well-known celebrities. What an amazing person!

Could not agree more. A celebrated guitarist from one of the UK's (many) great rock bands, then just adds on a physics PhD, and uni chancellorship for good measure. That's versatile.

I kind of felt like this, for Brian, would be like playing a basic, boring bit.. but he respected the original melody and only put a bit of "lace" on it toward the end.. just love him so much..

Brian is a superlative guitarist, and Queen is one of the most versatile, prolific bands of all time with an incredible body of work. It's icing on the cake that Brian is such a genius (and obviously a hard worker), yet remains a humble gentleman.

Of course it makes sense to play this song because the song Another One Bites The Dust has the same word. The Queen song with Dust is Angel Dust, which is getting high on drugs especially the drug Angel Dust and there is even a backmasking subliminal message I wanna smoke marijuana, not about gangsters, guns, or a boxer being knocked out. The song Dust In The Wind also about getting high on drugs especially Angel Dust. So it makes sense for Brian May to play this song.

@@christopherhunter3415 that is correct. I saw Kansas at the Paramount in Seattle in the summer of 1974. Queen was the backup band. Killer Queen, Queen’s first hit song in the U.S., had just become popular. Queen was practically unknown at that time.

Beautiful arrangement of a magnificent song. May was a huge Kansas fan, and I encourage anyone who doesn't know much about Kansas to really dig into their discography. Their body of work is phenomenal and their musicianship is so underrated and undervalued by mainstream record critics, it is a crying shame, they never got the respect they deserved. And as someone who has seen them 18 times in concert, I can vouch for those as honest words. You will not be disappointed.

I discovered Kansas just over 4 decades ago when I was in my mid-teens. Hardly anyone had heard of them here in England (my school friends never really got them at all) and Kansas rarely toured here, so they are one of the few great rock bands that I never got to see play live. All of those 1970s Kansas albums have stood the test of time really well.

Brian may's guitar technique level is much higher then Jimmy's - all the notes a clear and performed perfectly in tempo. Also he do a classic violin vibratto - it's a sign of the professional guitarist. All the live performances by Jimmy Page are too dirty and not synced perfectly with the drums - I can't stand led zeppelin live, it's too much pain for my ears. However Page is a one of the greatest in terms of arrangement and composition.

Here's the crazy part about this whole thing. That guitar? Most people would see this and think it's a Martin due to the headstock shape & color. It's not. It's actually an old Tokai Humming Bird worth maybe $3-400 in anyone else's hands. That's Brian's #1 acoustic guitar and has been for a long time from what I understand.

@@fredman1085- No, a solo is not playing by yourself. If you don’t know what a solo is, no one can help you.

Crush Everything ---- Did you not read the actual definition of what a solo is? I included it in my post, I didn't make it up. What do you think "solo" is? The very word means one, by yourself. Just because people like you have bastardized the word away from its original and true meaning doesn't make you right.
@fredman1085
@fredman1085 2 жыл бұрын
Crush Everything --- also, if you're going to say that this was a solo because the dude played guitar with no other guitars included, then he also played "solo" throughout the entire song, as did the key board player, and the woman sang solo throughout as well. If your saying it was a solo because the woman stopped singing for a bit, then at least both the guitarist and keyboard player were both playing their "solos" together. Perhaps to you a solo is when a player stops playing rhythm. You should listen to more music, this happens all the time but it's still only a true "solo" when they do this alone. All this said, why did you start the insults? If you knew what you were talking about and could actually explain and defend your position, I would have welcomed that and perhaps learned something new myself. Instead you resorted to the tired old stance of crying "you're wrong and you're too stupid to know why" without any intellect or reasoning to back up your position.

@@fredman1085- Brian May is a rock musician. In the vernacular of rock music, what he played is known as a solo. You’re trying to apply classical terms to the rock medium and it makes you come off like a pretentious tool.

A little story about this song. Kerry Livgren use to play this progression to practice his finger picking. One day he was practicing this at home, and his wife said it was pretty and that he should make a song out of it. The rest is history!

He was pissed off for the negativity from the audience . Music is a business just like professional sports . Players under contract move on to other projects similar to the music industry . Remember exactly when and were I was when that song came out over the radio, riding in my automobile in 1978. Though true, we are made from the dust of the Earth, we are more than dust, we are also spirit, soul, which is the part that lives on, after the dust (so to speak) has settled back to Earth!
