His touch was, for lack of better words, perfect. He could control every nuance of the note, knew where to pick, how to pick, and how to make the note sustain, vibrate and decay like no other. A true giant.

I agree ‘Where Were You’ is indeed the most beautiful guitar piece ever….I heard Freddie was profoundly moved by it too…It is like an emotional NARRATIVE that defies verbal description. Listening to it would literally move me to tears…Blackbird is also sublime. Hypnotic in its incredible sounds and it’s sheer ambiance…And his Nessun Dorma….just beyond description. It’s wonderful that you made such a great connection to him Brian. And that you had the opportunity to tell him how much he inspired you. I’m sure he really appreciated it….In interviews on the documentary ‘Queen, the Magic Years’ I remember Jeff called YOU the Guvnor …We will all miss Jeff…The most impossible to copy genius ever.

I agree, he felt it like the ordinary guy or girl in the street, jeff was above anyone, the guitar hero of guitar heroes, Rem watching the news ,bbc , a picture of him came on, and I just started screaming at the TV, cos knew what was gonna be announced before the presenter said anything, Only time I felt that way was , david bowie death, Amd a very long time ago ,Randy Rhoads Always growing up ,wanted to be j page/clapton / gilmour, but beck on his own "plane" , Ronnie Scott's a day in the life Loved eddie, but jeff better than all of them in reality ❤

We all love the music brian gave us,nothing but respect. But the nicest and most humble? When bohemian rhapsody movie was being written he told some stories to the writers obviously, and lots others. When they finished the screenplay and everyone read it,Brian called and said where the rest? This is only the 1st half of the story and a little too focused on freddie. Like people wanted the rest of the queen story and Freddie was just another member the band or something. And then fought for it to be changed or not come out. That's far from humble and pretty much living in a fantasy world

Maybe he *did* . I suppose every guitar player reaches for a particular note and accidentally bangs their head against a kitchen cupboard door in the process, once in a while. But we wouldn't notice, because Jeff was always inventive and open-minded enough to come up with something that would *make* it correct, and not be derailed by missing his own intended target. Over the last 24 hrs., I've said to people that there were certainly players who were faster, nastier-sounding, louder, and had more "hits". But Mr. Beck was always creative, innovative, open to the counter-intuitive and unexpected. There are players whom one thinks "If I practice this solo enough, I'll be able to nail it", as if rehearsing the tried and true and expected makes it possible. I often found myself thinking that Beck's solos were simply beyond my ability to conceive. And although it is certainly presumptuous of me, there was always a bit of a wink and nudge-nudge in his playing that made you feel like he was grinning at the listener, in particular, as if we knew each other.

@@markhammer643 When I started playing guitar around '89 had to go get all the shredder albums, Satch, Vai, Malsteen, Friedman, yada, came across a couple albums, Wired and JB w/Jan Hammer live, his playing was way over my head, couldn't grasp exactly what he was doing and how, listening now decades later, I understand much better what he is doing, still can't touch it, picked up some ideas for phrasing and finger style but his playing is so beyond anything and any other player.

This drummer's heart is broken. I have discovered that, since I cut my rock 'n' roll teeth on "Truth" among other discs, I had apparently expected Jeff Beck to live forever. And I can appreciate how, even within RnR's heart, Beck had to play it the way he felt it, and always forged his own path. We know souls like Jeff Beck's do not rest in peace. It is he who is on his way to his next gig and we who are poorer and sadder for his departure from brightening our world with his mastery of moving fingers in proper fashion across the neck and strings of a guitar. Play on, musician's musician, it was never so blunt an instrument as an axe in his hands, and may God's love be with him for eternity.

After watching this video, I went back and Listened to "Shapes of Things" by the Yardbirds. The very beginning of the solo in that song has some similarities to "Over Under Sideways Down" which Jeff plays and is on the "Roger the Engineer" album, released a few months after "Shapes of Things." But amazingly - parts of the solo has similarities to the solo work on "Taxman" and also the instrumentation on "Tomorrow Never Knows." But Beck recorded this before The Beatles Revolver was released. Shows how much of an innovator he was.

What a lovely tribute, Brian... and coming from you, saying that you are in awe, makes me love you even more. You are a very good guitarist yourself, yet you are so humble. I met you several times, when Freddie was around, and talked with you guyz (interviewing you for the album The Works, the first time) over the years. Interviews, gigs... I was in tears while you were talking of Jeff Beck, not only because of what you said, but also because you were almost in tears yourself...YOU are a great Person! Rest in power, Jeff...stay in the light. 🌠🌠🌠 Never forgotten...(the world is mourning over your *departure* 😓😓) Melody Fox (aka the Princess of Rock) LPeaceM

Heartfelt tribute, Sir Brian of the Guitar. We lost a revolutionary talent that forever changed music and where it can go to amaze and inspire. - Giddy cries of God singing from Beck's chosen instrument. RIP Jeff Beck. Thank you Brian.

Thank you Brian for stepping forward and saying those kind words about Jeff Jeff was always my idol. I truly feel he was the greatest guitarist ever . I had seen him when his blow-by-blow album came out never heard anything in my life like that, the way he played that guitar it cannot be replicated. Rest in peace mr. Beck. You truly was the best to ever play the guitar

I saw him about 10 years ago. I wrote this the next day.... "I saw Jeff Beck last night in Santa Rosa. Let me tell you, Jeff Beck can do no wrong. Iconic mastery the moment he took the stage. One of those rare souls whose instrument becomes an extension of who they are"

Wow - so touching, warm and authentic admiration - for like, a brother. Nicely done Mr. May. I am so moved by your words. I am but a fan of Jeff Beck (and you for that matter). I had the privilege of seeing Jeff Beck play and still remember it vividly. What unique sounds, phrases and notes that sang from his guitar. Fortunate to have some of his records. Big loss to all music and guitar lovers. P&L - condolences

Thanks for that, Brian. So many of us out here feel the same way about you. As a youngster I grew up hearing The Yardbirds on the radio, and they were definitely in a different sphere. It was the same in my early 20s, the first time I heard Bohemian Rhapsody on the radio. You guys were also in a different sphere than most. RIP Jeff Beck. And lets also not forget Keith Relf. or Rory Gallagher. Or Freddie. The list grows longer. One day, we'll all be there. It will be like a huge concert that goes on forever, and all the greats will be jamming on stage. How glorious it will be!

Jeff was my lifelong inspiration since seeing him play in the Yardbirds in 1965. I was lucky enough to meet him in 1967 when my band played support to The Jeff Beck Group, and he was tricky to enage in conversation as he was an incredibly shy, self-effacing person. Somehow I thought Jeff would always be around, silly I know. 😥 But his music will be there forever, inspiring countless guitarists, and that's one incredible legacy. Bless you Jeff.

Jeff was an astonishing musician. The first time I saw Jeff live for the "There And Back" tour, I was buzzing for weeks over the show and the massive talent he possessed. It comes as no surprise that Brian May is in awe of Jeff's playing--we all are.
