The leg hook takedown or also known as Kosoto Gake in Judo is an effective technique to bring your opponent to the ground.
It's the Gracie family favorite takedown and they have used it since the early years of vale tudo.
You can see the technique in the Gracie vs Karate challenge in the 70's.
In the 90's, Royce Gracie used it in UFC 1 and Rickson Gracie in Japan's first vale tudo events.
The move is so effective that it works at the highest level in modern MMA.
Recently, at UFC Fight Night in Mexico City (2024), Brian Ortega, who learned his Jiu-Jitsu from Ryron and Rener Gracie, took down Yair Rodriguez with this technique before securing a submission victory.
