It's funny that all the new guys from the sport side have a version of how Gracie Jujitsu and BJJ got started. People are writing books challenging almost everything the Gracie's say. The Gracie's that are saying it were actually there. The Self Defense side said Helio taught everybody, the sport side says Helio did not teach everybody, I am going to believe the people that were actually there. Instead of rewriting history listen to what the old guys have to say.

@@aikidoisthebombyeah All I know is Relson Rickson and the rest of the brothers were actually there. BJJ wouldn't be the worldwide phenomenon if it wasn't for the Helio side of the family. The stupid argument of who came to America first with BJJ is a dumb argument. Without Helio and his sons none of this happens, the sport side cannot deny that. Sport guys should stop whining and enjoy what you do.

I’d love to see some more old-school videos in the kids or new school videos teaching the kids those old-school videos with helio Teaching the kids, genius. I had a lot of talent back in the day. I could’ve been a champion. I just found the wrong Gracie teachers they hid information. I didn’t find the right ones like Renzo Relson might’ve taught from the heart to probably

I’ll do respect and love, but yeah that would be hard for at least 20 years for Carlson to have a student to beat you guys cause you’ve been doing it. Your whole life you guys are good. That’s a tall order that takes a lot of time

Thanks for posting this. I’m definitely going to add these techniques to my vocabulary of motion. I’m a Kenpoist and I have some comments about the two useless“techniques”. (1) Tucking the chin onto the forearm could work in THEORY if you manage to press into the nerve in that area (I forget the name) AND he was sleeveless as in the video. Even so, it would only be a first step. Using your own hands to pull your head down is idiotic. It wouldn’t work if attacker was wearing long sleeves (esp thick material like a gi.) In practice, i agree it’s garbage. (2) The 2nd video has some merit but not how shown by the “instructor”. The Kenpo way 1st, as u explained pulling down attackers arm & tucking ur chin down into the crook of the elbow is obviously crucial (If possible I would also bite his arm to loosen his grip. )At the same time, step your left foot to 9:00 into a horse stance (still pulling down on his arm w the left hand) and cocking the right arm forward executing an elbow straight back into his ribs as I settled into the horse stance. (The step to the left would expose his ribs and the elbow would be much more powerful. I would then bring my right foot to my left (probably stomping his foot) but mainly pull my head out of the choke and then step to my right between his legs and strike his groin (hammerfist, palm strike, etc) and follow up as needed. I know it looks slow and complicated as written, but in practice the movements are performed very quickly. There are too many videos out there that are not only useless but also dangerous.

bjj is very expensive in my area whereas boxing, judo and fitness gyms charge almost 70% less than the price of BJJ gyms. For a hobbyist and family man with 5 kids, I need to spend my money wisely. Hence, I prefer judo and boxing way less costly

You have lots of great content on Jiu-Jitsu for self-defense! One thing that's kinda missing in the Jiu-Jitsu community would be a striking curriculum optimized for Jiu-Jitsu, maybe that could be interesting for your website?

For a police officer I think the issue with this takedown, if not performed quickly, is you leave your gun exposed to the threat and your hands are occupied

Hi! Just an idea, but it would be really cool if you added a striking course to your online platform. As in striking optimized for Jiu-Jitsu, there is not much material out there on this subject it seems.

Rener and Ryron are super frustrating to roll with and watch. Ive always felt it was because they were tall and long. But it is not just that, they are just too far ahead of your movement. They know where you are going. Your brief opportunities come when you defend and prevent, that is your only shot, you’ll never feel like you were successful. You are relegated to accept that you had defensive moments.
