In the pre-interview, the bit was on contact lenses. When they went live, you can see Brian kept thinking hard how to transition to it but then he froze.

I notice most comedians do that. Maybe it's because they have the whole situation surrounding it that doesn't get on camera coupled with the fact that they rarely are watching their own appearances that they mix things up after. Penn Jillette recalling the second time he was on Letterman and released insects on his table comes to mind as the best example, but also Norm Macdonald recounting his episode of the view where he tried to piss off Barbara Walters is slightly off when you watch the episode.

Even the best lose their train of thought on occassion. But, he has so much good material that he can rebound nicely. Plus, his reputation is good, by that time, maybe it was just a learnong experience for him. He moves on to better performances.
