Years ago I saw an interview with him. At one point he sat down at a keyboard and played and sang the opening of 'Good Vibrations'. Why does everyone who interviews him insist on throwing the interview away by asking him the same questions he's been asked a million times? All these people need to do is spend a few minutes on youtube doing a bit of research to find out he's answered these same questions so many times before. Stop focusing on the things that make him sad, since we already know all about it, and ask him about things that get him excited and happy. The interview would likely be much more enjoyable for everyone, and maybe we'd learn something new. I just hate seeing him having to go down the same path every single time he's interviewed. There is so much more to him than the sad parts of his life.

Brian was a genius and writing amazing music long before LSD. I guess the drugs expanded his creativity a bit, but he had over 20 #1 hit songs before he even smoked a joint. Thank you Brian for enriching our lives to which you wrote the soundtrack to. God bless you Brian and Love and Mercy always.

Plus, songs like Warmth of The Sun and In My Room already hint at his future songs and their richness. At this same time, he was fully producing records for Jan & Dean, The Honeys and Glen Campbell that already hit a high level of studio mastery. The influence of the 50's and early 60's were still in effect in 1964 and he was one of the first to break that mold. The Beatles were still doing Mersey Beat sounds that were new but easily traced back to their roots. One guy who broke away early was British producer Joe Meek, the Everly Brothers did some unique things too heading into '65, but there's a scant few that truly broke through. 1965 changed a lot and doesn't get the credit '66 and '67 do. But look at Beach Boys Today! Wowwww.

In the film Love and Mercy his character says "I have been hearing voices since 1963" which would predate his introduction to psychedelic drugs. I'm not doubting the man, just an anomaly.

Anthony Monaghan from what I can tell, he was hearing voices (but not voices that said things, more like sounds, he once said he heard screams in his sleep, along with literal music during the day) as early as 1963, and then when he did the LSD the voices became more clear and he was able to make out what they were saying

Kyle Taylor it is genetic. his deceased brothers and his father also had such great hair. probably your father or uncle is bald just like you. stress doesn't cause baldness. brian wilson lived his life in emotional pain, stress. he had several nervous breakdowns but still has a great hair. it is simply genetic.

I love Brian & of course he will be remembered for his harmony . Saw him in 1978 or maybe it was 79 in Philly. My friend & I loved to party as much as the next person , being in our early 20's. But we had a sip of what was left in the back of the limo. Tasted like iced tea. BUT LORD have Mercy, 1 sip & we were tripping out of our minds. Don't know how Brian was able to do that concert , but he did. He kept getting on top of the piano & his mates kept getting him down like it was part of the act. I too have mental illness so I can relate, however, I DO NOT have the talent of BRIAN WILSON, & neither does ANYONE ELSE. So glad U R still with us Brian. the world loves U. Stay safe !

I was terrified of my dad when I was a kid also Brian. My dad was super tough on me. I live with the memories every day and night. I still have nightmares about my dad to this day. Horrible nightmares. I am now an adult, and even though the memories of my past with him are still very much alive, and will probably haunt me forever, I have come to loved my dad and am also very protective of him. If there are any psychologists out there please explain this to me.

I think it makes sense for people to feel a strong attachment to the only parent figures they know, or what may have been at a time the only parent figures they knew, even if their parents hurt them badly.

Possibly also you protect him because he's defined your identity, even if that is a complicated one, and you feel you must preserve that to know who you are. Another related reason may be guilt: you protect him to avoid the guilt of defining yourself independently of him. Freud believed guilt is the price of independence. Relatedly still, you may blame yourself for his abusive ways, perhaps especially if guilt was directed at you, which it probably was; in any case, it was likely internalized and thus formed part of your psyche, in which case you must, as in the first point above, defend him to know/preserve yourself; this is why the effects of abuse are so obstinate and often life-long. Hope this may help.

The rest were far from mediocre. Carl Wilson was a talented lead guitarist and had a voice that could both sing like and angel and rock like the devil. He was also a good composer, as was Dennis Wilson. Al Jardine had and amazingly still has a great voice, Bruce Johnston is a talented musician and Mike Love is a good frontman and lyricist. David Marks is also a talented guitarist. They all played their part.
