We followed Northeast (FL) High School junior Briana Williams through her preparation for the Great Southwest Track and Field Classic 100m dash as she tried to break the High School National Record.
The junior has only really raced a handful of times this season but each one has been faster than the previous. At the JAC Open, Williams clocked a US No. 2 all-time wind-legal mark of 11.10 (+0.2) seconds. She then bested it at the 2019 Great Southwest Track and Field Classic running 11.03 (+0.8).
The junior now holds two of the top three high school girls 100m times ever run, and she's not done yet. This weekend Williams will continue her quest to not only break the national record of 10.98 (+2.0) set by Candace Hill in 2015 but also qualify for the Jamaican Senior team ahead of the World Championships this year in Doha, Qatar.

Well she just ran a wind legal 10.94. She finished 3rd behind Shelly Ann Frasier Pryce and Elaine Thompson. They both ran 10.73 respectively. This means Briana qualifies for the World championships.

@@JT0007 Interestingly enough, I did not even "see" that!! In any event, athletes do it all the time!! Even football players have been known to do that with their position coach. Those two go on many trips together, spend a lot of time together. I have been watching them for a long time. She approached him because he coached one of her best friends to a junior championship. At first she did not listen to him, like most young people tend to do with older adults. Then after she was not achieving the kind of success she wanted one day she decided to give his advice a "try" and she ended up winning the double gold at the world juniors. Her response to winning is a show of appreciation, joy, and now absolute confidence in her coach. That is what I see. I know that in this #MeToo era things can be blown out of proportion. But that is a peculiarly American phenomenon. Most women from Caribbean cultures reject the US brand of feminism and #MeToo. In fact, most women in the world reject it!!
