Great video, thanks so much. One statement got my attention. 'In case you have an emergency at home, and you need to hop on a plane, make sure, that you have a little pool of money set aside.' Let me add: 'Make sure that you have a little pool of miles/points set aside.' Whereas last minute one ways paid with money can be outrageously expensive, award tickets can be available last minute at a very decent rate. And, it's a great hobby, actually my only hobby.

We are not married and have traveled the world extensively over the last 23 years. We have been in dirt-floor airport terminals waiting for hours in the South Pacific etc and find that the most important factor in successful travel is being happy with the person sitting next to you and enjoying all the conversations you have not had with them yet. Unless you edit those portions out you guys seem to have it locked.

I loved going to Peru as my first South America trip - it actually ties as my favourite spot with Istanbul. It was extremely affordable, I felt very safe as a solo female traveler, the people are so warm and welcoming, there are a variety of cultures and ecosystems, and there is so much to learn about the knowledges and histories of the people indigenous to each area. I loved staying in Cusco, and I think you would both love it. Lima was a very clean city for a capital. And honestly, I loved my stay in the Peruvian Amazon and can’t wait to go back. Peru was so much more than just the touristy areas like Machu Picchu - there is so much to explore. And the food was pretty good with unique cuisines and flavour profiles.

Funny about the comments about no arguments on your first trip, internationally. My wife and I travel internationally once a year. Not even all the way through it, but what a great video - thank you for it. Yeah, so here I am after my first month of two in Crete, my first stop on my full-time travel journey. (Loving it!) I chose Crete because I know Crete and just needed a place to decompress after my four months of visiting everyone I love in the States and saying goodbye. I mean, it was lovely, but very emotionally draining. As a single dude with no kids and no living parents, I don't plan to be back in America very often, certainly not yearly. Your perspective on Montenegro vs. Albania was very helpful, as I was thinking of one or the other after here, but I've about decided on February in Istanbul. Concerning planning for places to visit, I think I'll continue doing what I did on my long goodbye tour, which is not deciding where I'll be months out. I like getting somewhere and then deciding where next; I know myself well enough to know I have no idea where I'll want to be six month from now, except in a general sense. I mean, I suspect I'm going to want to be in northern Europe this summer, but I do not know that, and I refuse to decide, yet. Anyway, thanks again. I really love your channel. It's very helpful and somewhat validating. Enjoy your time back home. Xaviotes (not my real name) P.S. Have you heard of this word I found recently? Coddiwomple - to travel in a purposeful manner toward a vague destination. It's my favorite new word and life plan, for now.

Mardin Is my birthplace😊 and it’s famous for the best food and rich culture. I also recommend Mick and Trudie to watch their videos. We are Asuncion which is an incredibly modern city with everything you can imagine available here. I was quite shocked to find it that way. It also shares borders with Brazil, Argentina and Bolivia….and Uruguay is not far either. Just a suggestion. 😉

I nearly fell off the sofa when Carrie stated her age! 🎉 I do have a question you may consider answering…. Carrie, if you were on your own, where in Europe would you hang your hat?
@BrianandCarrie5 ай бұрын
Great question! I would easily choose Portugal. We've been here now 3 times and love it. I would feel completely comfortable if I were choosing this area to settle by myself or as a couple. Thanks so much for watching 😊

Haven't been to Montenegro, but I'm currently living in Saranda for the off-season and totally agree with your assessment...People are great, it's cheap and the best views I've ever had from any apartment I've ever lived in....and as an American, we get a 1 year visa free stay, which is a biggie for me and will enjoy it while it lasts😊

Loved our time in Saranda, and waking for to that view with my cup of coffee was priceless. The one year visa is so great as well... enjoy your time there. Cheers!!

We are travelling from Portugal to Malaysia for February - KL, Penang and Sarawak, a scouting trip to move full-time there. Decided that Portugal is not our 'forever home'. We've been to Malaysia many times. Ticks many boxes for us.

That's great! We all have different boxes to check off, thank goodness there are so many wonderful areas to choose from. Cheers!!

Another great video as always, thanks for sharing. I am 50 and hoping to stop working at 52 and start traveling as you are. I believe the reason people ask about the costs and budgets is because we are curious and a little anxious to know if we too could make it within our budgets. From age 52 to 62 we will need to rely on passive income so it does bring those questions and uncertainties up. Biggest thing we’ve been doing is being debt free and saving 50% plus of our income plus having an apt which will be rented out at that time. I learn a lot from you guys so thanks a lot for sharing.
@BrianandCarrie Жыл бұрын
We were (and still are) a bit anxious. We are in the same situation you are in but without the rental. We just need to make it until the pension and SSC kick in! 😀 Being debt-free is the most important part. Thank you for watching and supporting the channel, guys! Cheers!!🍻

My wife and I have just done the same think, retired early and are travelling around during the winter and going home for summer. We are debt free too, but survive on one pension and therefore have to budget too. We are thinking about downsizing our UK house in the future but can manage for the time being. Wild horses could never drag me back to work for sure. The point of my comment is that I love the way some of the answers are surprise even to Brian......! If you get chance give our channel a quick watch and let us know what you think. Mike & Cheryl

Hey guys!! When we downsized it was the most freeing time of my adult life. Getting rid of all the stuff accumulated over 30+ years was a chore but worth it. Thank you so much for the kind words and for watching! We will be sure to check out your channel as well. Cheers!!🍻

Hi. I wouldn't do a cruise myself in South America... You'll be bound by group travel schedule and cheat yourself out of great exploring opportunities (not tourist spots) only locals can tell you about while there, at the moment. Having lived in Peru on-off for years and traveled South America extensively I can say you'll need at least 3 months in Peru alone to take some of it in, in a meaningful way. BTW, while in Buenos Aires make sure to take Tango lessons. I know a couple spots there if you decide to do it.

Hi guys Enjoyed this video, I love the fact you go 50/50 on everything but pay for your own extras , I think more should consider this idea , I don’t think many modern day ladies would be queuing up for it but I think it’s great and fair , don’t want to start any arguments about who does what , me personally because Carrie does so much of the booking/organisation before and during the travel I’d pay a bit more some how , a few flights or the accommodation for a month , something on those lines , but that’s just me , I understand how much pressure it is to make sure everything is ok , Great video Regards Davy living in Thailand

It works for us 😊. But one thing we've learned in our 53 years, everyone seems to have a different way and good on them for figuring that out. We do our best to split the jobs, always a work in progress but we both appreciate what the other does to help out. Thanks so much for watching - Cheers!!

Start to finish great video... Agree 98 percent....lol. We found that being home is more stressful... Self inflicted trying to race around seeing everyone and making sure no one has hurt feelings.. We need to get better at planning a few extra weeks for a home visit... We're heading out in six days until July.... If you do South America next fall maybe we'll link up..... Sharing your video on FB as many people all us all these questions.... Safe travels, Merry Christmas and happy New year.. Larry and Minnie

Here's a question - what are the top (your personal favorites) KZbin Travel Vlogging channels? Example, for me, I was one of the original Kara and Nate subs and I also always watch The Endless Adventure with Eric and Allison. The funny thing is I'm 64 and I still follow these "kids". We (wife and I) have traveled the world over and continue to travel internationally. I just find bits and pieces of what they do that we want to do as far as locations to visit.
@BrianandCarrie Жыл бұрын
That's a great question!! We enjoy Probably Lost, Amelia and JP, Delightful Travelers, Sammy and Tommy, and Retirement Travelers. You can also consider Paddy Doyle. Thank you for watching our channel!! Going up against Kara and Nate is a tall task! 😄 Cheers!!🍻

Interesting, as I've watched a few of your videos, and I just heard you say you're house sitters in the States. Brian also mentioned he has a daughter in St Petersburg, FL, and that you arrived in the Tampa port. I live south of Sarasota (within a mile of the beach) and have a small dog, I thought I would just reach out with the thought that it may be mutually beneficial. We're always looking for qualified pet sitters when we travel to the UK each fall. WOW, as I watch this video--- you're a wealth of knowledge. I wish we were beer drinkers so we could tag along.

@BrianandCarrie Yes, and sorry I misspoke. You arrived in Cape Canaveral but flew out of Tampa. I thought you may have possibly visited your daughter in that area and that's what got my attention. We fly out of Tampa often, approximately 1.5 hours drive. Thank you for your response!! 😊

I missed your relationship. I heard the part where you said you each keep your own finances, and separate from one another. Are you related? Siblings, spouses, or significant others? Just curious, I just got married and we are an older couple, trying to figure out our finances. Thanks for all your wonderful traveling experiences!

It was a bit confusing w the answer in the Pt.1 video - could you clarify whether Carrie has Cigna Global (with US coverage) AND Safetywing? Or just the safetywing now instead of Cigna Global? We’re trying to figure out health insurance for coverage for sometime in the US and worldwide. Thank you! You two seem so down to earth. I love your videos for their unglossed honesty.

Thank you so much, guys! You two were inspirational for us and gave us the confidence to continue with our early retirement plan. Although we are both Australian, my wife is originally from Czech Republic. She's always wanted to live in her hometown, at least for a while. We took the radical approach, like you guys, of selling everything we owned in Australia in order to move to Europe and retire early. We are a similar age to you and this is definitely not the conventional approach. We don't even admit to many of our friends that we consider ourselves to be retired, because they just wouldn't understand. For now we are living in Czech Republic, but we may eventually do slow travel once we have had our fill there. You, along with a couple of other channels, showed us that it is possible to do this and not follow the norms. Cheers! 🍻
@BrianandCarrie Жыл бұрын
That is so great to hear, congrats on your early, unconventional retirement. It's so hard for many to wrap their head around the possibility when we've been programmed into us most of our lives of exactly when retirement age is and how much you need to reach the "comfort level". Enjoy your time in the Czech Republic - we look forward to getting back there for a longer visit soon. Cheers!!
