There are many places in Romania to see, the romanian government doesn't do such a good job in promoting the country, KZbinrs who travel the world like Brian and Carrie have done far more promotion to Romania than the government. As for towns and cities that worth seeing are many Sibiu - overall a pretty city Sighisoara - lots of colorful buildings Oradea - one of the most restored cities in Romania Brasov - there are so many things to do here from wondering the old town to hiking to the near by mountain Postavarul Massif Bucharest - a mix of old and new, has one of the biggest mall in Eastern Europe with a build in mountain façade, not mentioning the largest building in Europe Alba Iulia - largest fortress in Romania, on foot to visit the whole thing it would take at least 2 hours Hunedoara - this town has The Corvin Castle it is one of Europe's best kept medieval castles, oh yeah there are a lot of castles and fortress around Romania Timisoara, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Targu Mures, Baia Mare, Arad, all good looking cities and the list could go on and on, so many localities that has something to offer

As a Midwesterner who lived in Sibiu for 2 years, I can totally agree that this is a "must visit" city. I taught at the local university through the U.S. State Department's Fulbright Program. I will add, though, that there is so much more to see in Sibiu beyond the center city area. Some of the outlying small towns are also great. I did enjoy my visits to other Romanian cities, but--maybe because it was "home"--Sibiu was my favorite.

Not to mention the disastrous infrastructure ☹️ but, indeed, Romania IS a hidden gem. Hope you'll get to see Oradea as well (my favorite one in Romania, I'm from Bucharest). I've also been living in Poland for some years, and Budapest for a year now - Poland and Hungary really are true gems worthy of exploring as well ❤️❤️❤️ And not just Budapest and Kraków. I was blown away by Sibiu. I was with a professional group that was doing some stuff on the outskirts of town, and I can't believe stopping into the historic center wasn't on the agenda. We broke off from the group and were able to run around the core for 30 mins or so and WOW. I'm dying to go back. The city is called Nagyszeben in Hungarian. It was formed in the 12th century. It was part of Transylvania (Erdély) until 1920, when the treaty of Trianon divided Hungary and the city like other part of Hungary became the part of Rumania. During the Austro-Hungarian Empire the city of Nagyszeben, Sibiu had German, Hungarian and Rumanian population.
@radustroescu71082 жыл бұрын
On today's territory of the city of Sibiu and all the other settlements around Sibiu, there were Dacian settlements. The Dacians were the ancestors of today's Romanians. A real proof is the Dacian Citadel from Tilișca, together with the related settlement, is located on the Cățănaș hill and was discovered in 1957. The oldest habitation of the Cățănaș hill was archaeologically documented in the first Iron Age, the Hallstatt civilization, the phases A, B and C, in the XII-VII centuries BC. BC Then the first fortification system was erected, consisting of the outer wall of the fortress. After an interruption of several centuries, the fortress will be inhabited again by the Dacians, starting from the 3rd century BC. From the 1st century BC, the fortified defense system inherited from the Hallstatt fortress was rebuilt and expanded, by strengthening and raising the border of the upper plateau. Another "pincer" entrance was arranged on the northwest side. The residential tower was also built and dozens of terraces were laid out, mainly for defense, but also for living. The fortress thus becomes a fortified center of the Dacian state, with remarkable craft activity. In the middle of 12th century, our era, the Saxons and Szeklers appeared on the territory of present-day Transylvania. Transylvania was always, before Christ, Dacian territory. Dacian ruins and settlements bear witness, some discovered, on the ruins of the old Dacian fortresses are now covered by the current fortresses and fortifications made by the Saxons.

Transylvania was and is Romanian territory. The Hungarians, who were part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, took this territory and killed many of the Romanians who were always in the majority, changed their names to Hungarian names, killed their families, fields were taken and their houses set on fire. So, who is older in this territory of Transylvania???? You, the Hungarians, who came to Transylvania in the 12th century, or the Romanians, the majority of the population, who were here before, from the time of the Dacians, before Christ????

Thank you both for sharing your enthusiasm about romania 🙂 I am Romanian, living in Denmark for more than 20 years. I am interested in asking you a couple of questions, but I am afraid I will make it too long here plus would get too personal 🙂 do you guys have an email address maybe?
