Hi y’all, we hope you enjoy this video and that you all are doing well! Ashley and I are doing well; thank you for everyone who reached out to us! 😊 We needed a good long break to get settled into our new home in Austin, TX, find a new rhythm with my job and finding our community here in our new home. We are now making time to bring some videos out of the Keep Going Places vault! Over the next month or two we’ll finish posting our Romania 🇷🇴 travel series. Stay tuned! -Jordan

Yes,nice cities,but you are not aware of the rivality between those neighbour cities. You would not want to be the maire of one of them,because the people are startled like : ,,why the neighbour city have a bigger and nicer Christmas market,or festival,or whatever event,than our city,sir? How did you allowed such a shame to us? Here,a gift from me,a pack of coffee,because it seems like you are falling asleep in the office...and we didn't voted you to sleep,ok,sir?''😆 Edit: The actual president of Romania was the maire of Sibiu before.

@@KeepGoingPlaces "Transylvanian Saxon" is name of one of thre two major groups of the German minority in Romania. This name derived from a Hungarian term. Coming originally frome the Rhineland or nowadays Belgium they where not "Saxon colonists" because they little to do with the historic Saxons or the modern federal state of Saxony, but were later called "Transylvanian Saxons" in a sort of misstranslation.

Hey, really nice travel video . :D little note: i know even wikipedia says about the "The Bridge of Lies" that it is the first cast iron bridge 'built in romania' but technically this region/transylvania wasn't part of Romania till 1920 so this statement is false in that context. Also architecture in town mostly resemble a german/saxon (churches) and austro-hungarian monarchy style (ceramic roof tiles from Pécs/zsolnay ceramic factory, attic eye roof). Aswell as all historic building was built, maintained, renovated by austrian, hungarian, architects and saxon townies and craftsmens but they get almost zero credit in museums/wikipedia as usual (except the saxon at least they noted). I'm sorry if this sounded a bit sour, that wasn't my intention. I'm an architect and I get kinda enthusiastic about buildings and history. and it always bothers me if the museum gave the limited/simplified data that can even spread misinformation without the full context. :)
@florinionteodorescu413 Жыл бұрын
Cannot compare Pécs swamps and mud to Sibiu's clay used in Sibiu as a ancient continous producer of clay roof tiles. Variation of styles, still no connection between Transylvanian German Saxon's styles and much newer post-Ottoman Pécsi styles.
@MTeana Жыл бұрын
@@florinionteodorescu413 Well I might didn't stated it clear in the short comment but what I meant are the colorfully detailed and painted cheramic rooftiles those were imported, and its all over Vienna, and in Hungary for representative buildings. And the city was rebuilt by the saxon and they made it their cultural and trade center. (so architecture wise we can see a lot of similarities to german cities: small cobble stone, churches, roofs,street structure, fortification. ) so saying that is no connection is silly, when the city we see today was literally founded and built by them.

The type of dormers is called "Schwalbennest" in German (lit. swallow nest). Journeyman years or "Walz" in German is an old tradition for certain professions like carpenter or roofer to travel for several years after completing apprenticeship as a craftsman. Therefore the nails. The sign are most likely not free masons, but are according to the specific craft or profession. Those guys usually wear a very traditional working outfit when traveling and easy to spot once you know those costumes.

Transylvania’s old cities are OK, but the countryside including some UNESCO villages like Torocko and most importantly the Carpathians from Western Carpathians, Szeklerland and the Eastern Carpathians and as top the Fagaras region are of imense beauty. Once you see the nature and the small villages be it romanian or hungarian, taste the freshest simple local food you get hooked :-) The cities will unfortunately not mean to much unless you understand the historic/ cultural heritage of each region, be it hungarian, romanian, szekler hungarian or saxon german etc.
