Coming from a PT as well, I 100% agree with The Flying Dutchmen. Its nice to hear someone taking it to the next level and providing some very helpful and sound information that if applied correctly should help a lot of people out there. Your explanation of functional biomechanics was excellent. Very well done and as usual thanks for the work!! Stay after it and stay Gritty!!

I recently purchased some of those micro spikes. Complete game changer in steep dry conditions. Makes going up or down easier, safer, faster while using less physical and mental exertion. This is an excellent piece of gear to add for big Mtn hunting.

What would really help with the correct Knee Use ( back chain dominance) is learning the GOATA movement system. It's what we all learned neurologically when we we babies on the floor.

Another great video Brian! I love how you not only cover hunting itself, but what it takes to be successful such as getting in shape, your equipment, and things like you addressed in this video. I can tell you I made the mistake coming downhill of having my toes pointing down the mountain. Rocks gave out underneath one foot and it shot out in front of me. Luckily, even at 56, I'm in great shape and still pretty flexible. I didn't sustain any injury and got back up and headed on back down the hill. I should've known better as I live in hills and hunt them but it only takes a lapse in focus and bad things can happen. Thanks again for another great video!

Hey great video, something me and my son were talking about is river crossings. We know a few guys who have been swept away and when my son was little I taught him to always take one side off of his pack. One you are swept away, you have to ditch the pack or it can push you under etc. Also I never see others do this. I learned it in the marine corps based on how the pack design allowed the shoulder straps to come apart.

Being able to hunt into your old age, hahaha! Being your Dad's age, I felt you were speaking directly to me! However growing up backpacking and hunting in the Sierra Nevada high country much of this is a no brainer. But it is a great reminder of how to move through the terrain easier and more economically. Thanks for the reminder! Good luck to you and your Dad on your hunt!

For tying boots, I was given a tip from a guy at cabelas years ago who did lots of mountaineering. Once you get to the top of the foot essentially where you start having hooks for lacing, do 6 or so wraps on the boot laces. This allows you to lace the foot tightness independently from the ankle/leg. I've found this to be very useful especially with my large ankles so that my feet aren't sliding around.
@philiph5542 жыл бұрын
Good info, thanks. I have used many of the techniques you describe as they seemed obvious to me at the time. My knees are a weak link, so I have been cautious to minimize pressure on them. This whole video was worthwhile as you discussed the various elements faced when ascending / descending

Would you recommend the StHealthy hunter roll on CBD gel for sore feet at the end of a day on a backpack archery hunt? Or do you think the weight/scent would be drawbacks?

It's very similar. Depending on how much you are sliding in the shale, but trying to walk light footed in the shale seems to help. It can be very frustrating if you have to go straight up in a shale rock slide.

Do the sheep feet match your arch exactly? I have low arches (I think) but I’ve found that if my insoles have any arch support, I’ll be hurting one hour into the hike.
