Today on Gritty Bowmen we hang out with friend Donnie Vincent. I could sit an listen to Donnie tell stories for hours. He’s an explorer, biologist, conservationist, and sportsman. And a gifted weaver of adventurous tales in wild and remote places. When Donnie’s storytelling transcends the spoken word and comes to life in the form of cinematic film--it’s incredible. His films change hearts and minds. And films like, “Who We Are,” “The River’s Divide,” and “Terra Nova,” have permanently changed how I view the world and the hunt. So sit back and enjoy the show. And then, if you haven’t already, support Donnie by getting his film’s at www.donnievincent.com.
Those who know me, know that I love a good hunting story. And I’m no Donnie Vincent but Gritty Bowmen has its own brand of filmmaking--it’s kinda Gritty… it’s a bit unpolished, it usually has a few smart-aleck comments, some shaky footage, some adventure and it reminds you of the hunts you go on with your buddies.
So with that preamble, I have an announcement to make. On Thursday, February 8th at the Western Hunt Expo in Salt Lake City, I’ll be showing my latest Gritty film on the big screen. And it’s not just my film that’ll be showing, my good friend Cole Kramer will also be featuring his YETI film from Nepal that night as well. There will be Gritty Bingo, Prizes, Raffles, Giveaways and much more! My good friends at Sitka Gear, YETI, HOYT, MTN OPS, and Leupold Optics are helping to make this event a fun one! Raffle proceeds go to the Rocky Mountain Goat Alliance.
Please, if you want to support Gritty and you’re coming to the Western Hunt Expo, please go to www.mtnops.com/gritty and get tickets now.
Please spread the word--invite your friends and family, and come see what a Gritty Movie Night is all about.
Here’s a 30-second trailer for the film--check it out.

The Music is awesome and Donnie is quite humbling. Interesting this was from Feb 2108 and at present, we are faced with COVID. The latest film, Winds of Adak is Exceptionally Awesome!

Brian, thank you for these podcasts, they do make a difference, I talk about them with my friends and they get it. But more importantly, they continue to motivate me (at 61 years old) to get up each morning and bust my butt working out (before I go to work) so I can continue to take my children ( a daughter and two boys) out to hunt in the wilderness. Thanks!

Brian, your films are more than just hunting films to me, they show case what it's like to be apart of something greater than yourself, something special happens whilst being in the woods in search of an elusive animal and there is is an unbreakable bond that is forged with those around you on this journey. You capture all of this in a way that's raw yet poetic. Thank you for sharing your journey and the stories of some truely amazing people through your podcast. Blessed

Wilderness areas are the key to a quality elk hunting experience. I usually hike in 7-10 miles and then start hunting. Getting in a canyon off trail is also a big bonus if you want to get away from the guys on horseback. Fantastic episode fellas!

Enjoyed the podcast and have enjoyed watching Donnie's films. I think a lot of hunters that appreciate the wilderness and solitude have some negative feelings towards humanity that he was touching on. Brian I appreciate you kind of turning those comments back around to remaining positive. I think I know what Donnie was trying to say but that can be a slippery slope when trying to relay those thoughts, but I don't hold anything against him for speaking how he feels. The only thing we can truly control in life is ourselves. Whether people believe in God or not is really irrelevant because we still can't control things but for me it helps to remember that He has a plan and although we don't understand it, He does and He knows what He's doing. He can fix things how He sees fit immediately if He chooses to. Hunters themselves are as diverse as any other group of people. The fact that there is such a big interest in Donnie's films is without a doubt a positive sign that many are hunting for the right reasons with good intentions, which was mentioned. Excited to see the next films from both Grittybowmen and Donnie Vincent. Thanks guys!

Hey Donnie, the frank church wilderness is where it’s at in Idaho! True backcountry hunting, no motorized vehicles allowed. Go in on horseback or by plane.

Great podcast. Donnie is an awesome human being. I thought it was funny when you talked about guys loving elk hunting and telling guys to go and hunt moose and caribou and big horn sheep and I started laughing cause I can barely afford to hunt elk every year and am aware of the cost to hunt those big game animals

My 2cents...... I've been bow hunting since 1979. I have shot some decent bucks in Indiana, but I believe, any animal I take with my bow is a trophy. .... Just sayin..... Great discussion!

What donnie said about the offroaders and the atvs is the biggest problem i run into in idaho. Tons of great elk habitat is torn up by motorcycles, atvs, and sxs's.

Oil is a natural product of deep earth, high pressure, high heat chemistry that seeps through cracks in the earth and forms 'wells' the initial effects of a massive crude oil spill are pretty terrible, but natural processes break it down into bio available nutrients for soil. Hence why the gulf coast isn't as dead as initial projections estimated. Its the processed petroleum products and by products that are extremely terrible for the earth.

We could actually make oil, if nuclear regulations weren't so short sighted and influenced by ignorance, ideologues and demagogues. We are restricting ourselves from the next evo/revolution of science by throttling nuclear research.

The comment "figure out human population" is right on the mark. Humanity world wide needs to figure out a responsible method of procreation. If we can't do that, all bets are off. I realize that's a pretty profound statement but it will be really hard to be responsible stewards of world resources if we cannot be responsible stewards of our own population. I agree with you, if someone said elk (or other wildlife) will be here for ever and generation after generation but you can never hunt them again, I make that deal. I hope my children's children and their children get to experience the outdoors and wildlife as I have.
