for sure!! fixed latency, the return track changes, momentary shortcuts, and the sampler changes are all updates i hadn’t heard of until now but are really cool to have! another good one i saw someone point out online is that you can now finally automate the transient envelope slider when using the “→|” mode in the Beats warp algorithm!

I wasn't that excited about Live 12 until I watched this video! These are the ACTUAL changes that I will use daily that will make a solid impact on my workflow and mitigate my laziness towards making certain creative decisions. So many of the other videos out there highlight these strange new features like midi generation that I find to be completely useless. THANK YOU.

In old live when you drag in tracks from old projects that were routed somehow , like a a kick and a bass that had the sidechain compressor fed from said kick, it would retain those routings as long as you pulled them in in one go. Do the new draggable send tracks behave this way? maintaining routing to the original fx with automation even though order has changed?

@@patkelly8309 Try adding them to your workflow one at a time. A good one to start with is cmd-r (or cntrl-r on a PC) for renaming things. You likely rename tracks and clips all the time. Just learning this one will save you lots of time over the long run. Then add another after renaming sticks. Tab key to switch between Session and Arrangement View is valuable. What I wish Ableton engineers to now focus on since am guessing they were busy with push 3 and A12 is to optimize ableton's efficiency in cpu usage. With new macs and pc chips like 14900k going for less power cores and more efficiency cores I hope they impliment scheduling of ableton to efficency cores which are unused to take advantage of the full chips cores soon. I don't want to compromise on chip selection based on cores since newer chips come with benefits like thunderbolt 5 on new razers and higher pcie connections, higher ram mghz, cache etc. There is no excuse that it runs on old code because Cubase is ancient as f*ck and them and reaper have effectively implemented this. This would solidify ableton for not only production but heavy mixing and mastering which will be really sweet and just a go to for all matters audio because with modern plugins and AI features it's starting to take a toll on good old ableton and not everyone especially beginners don't have the budget to blow on a highend pc or Mac. Plus I would also like to see how Ableton will take advantage of NPU's in new chip to its advantage since now it has the similarity feature which I'm guessing uses neural networks and if such and likes of ozone master assistant could be scheduled there. Also Ableton live for windows arm early on would be nice. Overall I just want them to do better and remain competitive cause it is a great software

First video to make me actually want to upgrade from 11 suite 😊. I’m still waiting for plugin view in mixer like Cubase or Luna . @royalemuzikproductionz

@@BrianFunkMusic what about phase cancellations or other basic things . The plugins do add up . I’ve made a rack too for gainstaging and once that’s done I freeze as much as I can and the start processing. On i5 52 GB 1T almost 60 tracks with effects included my cpu reaches 40% max and that’s great for me. But just image all the things I mentioned were part of a built in strip like Cubase. Ableton would be more of a Beast than what it is now

I am reading a lot of comments like that but without the “at least they are here now” part. I think that’s a good way to look at it. If they tried to do everything everyone wanted the program would be cluttered, confusing, and full of bugs. I’ve always appreciated that they’ve been thoughtful in their implementation of new features. For example Live’s comping is so well done but came a little later than other DAWs. That's such a great review of these new functions in a short span of time. Good job! I have a question though: I think I saw somewhere that there's a feature which allows you to click within the midi editor and press the space bar and then Ableton will start playing the track from that specific point where you clicked. So far I can only do that if I click on the arrangement view. Any tips?
@BrianFunkMusic
@BrianFunkMusic 10 ай бұрын
Yes, it's if you hold option and press space bar. Live will then playback from wherever the cursor is in the MIDI editor. Another useful tip, hold Shift and press space bar and Live will continue playing from wherever it stopped playing, rather than from wherever the cursor is in Arrangement View. I just tried the beta and finally it seems like they made progress on latency but it’s still not at the level of Logic Pro

@@vincecrow4512 I’d personally like to see per-note editing like Melodyne. That would make it a complete daw for me. And if they would finally support multi-clip editing, it would be 100% complete 😀

dang them getting rid of key commands for the view options is a bummer. though there should be a way to route this in the mac settings if my thinking is correct. its a little janky but you basically just tell mac to use xyz key command in only that application in order to enable certain menu items which is where those controls have now moved.
@BrianFunkMusic

Hopefully they are still sorting out key commands. 🤞

DANG. im getting the update for sure after watching this video. i really hope i can turn off the momentary properties of those shortcuts though...
@BrianFunkMusic

Good news! It's only momentary if you hold the command for over 1 second. If you press it at a normal, shorter click it switches as expected. It's very useful and doesn't interfere with normal functionality at all.

Hey Brian! NotePB on Analog and Tension is here since L11.3, but Operator has it in L12 (right-click its title bar to enable it). The Scenes tempo and time sig boxes are still here, but they have to be displayed from the View menu.

My only complaint is the scene launch data location, in 10 it was so perfectly located and then they hid it in 11 but at least you could get a quick read if you maximized it. This makes it super difficult to navigate complicated sets. I don't want to have to save space in my scene name for the tempo and time sig
@BrianFunkMusic

You can get the Live 11 functionality back by going into the View Menu and selecting "Scene Tempo and Time Signature." Then you can expand the Main track, just like in Live 11, and show that information.

Since there is real time editing of midi notes like harmonize and quantize, it would have been great to have realtime for grooves as well.
@BrianFunkMusic
@BrianFunkMusic Жыл бұрын
You kind of do. You can play your clips with grooves on them and tweak the sliding in the groove pool in real-time. In fact you could do the same with the quantize slider in the groove pool too.

It is an option go to : View : Show Tempo and Time Signature ....its there! So may people complained about not needing it there all the time and having less room, so they listened! Now you have the choice (I use it all the time so I spotted it right away!)

Have you found that it's now impossible to quantize individual midi clips? With the Quantize in midi Transformations it seems to quantize all midi clips globally?
@BrianFunkMusic
@BrianFunkMusic 9 ай бұрын
No I haven't had that happen. Is it possible you had multiple clips selected?
@aaronmay6088
@aaronmay6088 9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the reply! No I've only got one clip selected - but then it applies it globally. It does it with humanize too. I thought maybe I had some toggle selected but then it does it even in new sessions. I'll take a look at the preferences@@BrianFunkMusic

Solved it! You basically don't want "transform" switched on - that will mean that your quantize settings will affect every clip. However if you have transform off you can highlight the notes you'd like to quantize and "command U' like before. @@BrianFunkMusic
