“Deception” is actually called “One of Us.” Scar was Kovu’s father until extremely late in production. You can find the alternate scenes on KZbin.

I feel like The Lion Guard season 3 was definitely where the show peaked because it didn't feel like a preschool show anymore, there was more mature topics and character growth and less of the childish lessons. i had similar issues with the first two seasons, the lore was incredible and the songs were catchy but number 1. the lessons were too simple and childish and number 2. every episode pretty much ended the same, with kion roaring Janja and his hyenas back to the outlands.

Yeah, halfway through season 2 was when I got interested again and then season 3 upped the quality a surprising amount. I was surprised how much I liked how they integrated the aftermath of Lion King 2 and Vitani becoming the new leader of The Lion Guard, especially considering I was VERY bitter how they were utilised originally in The Lion Guard.

I would personally rank The Lion Guard higher on this list. It's my favorite Disney Junior show that's actually canon to the films taking place in between the events of The Lion King 2, and the theme song with an African chorus music is amazing. Plus there's animal species who make an appearance in the show not even being native to the continent of Africa, such as polar bears, tigers, and pandas. Though I agree with the #1 spot going to the OG Lion King starting it all for my favorite successful, and popular Disney movie franchise of all time. So my top 3 rankings for The Lion King franchise are #1 The Lion King, #2 The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride, then #3 The Lion Guard.🦁🌅🐗

Loved the ranking. And since you didn't wanna add them to the mix. I'd definitely put the Legend of the Lion King (the long gone puppet show he mentioned during Festival of the Lion King) maybe slightly below or above Festival. My reason? Because they're straightforward in the story, and some of the effects were actually pretty good. But at the same time, it's basically Lion King abridged. So.. y'know, it's either something you'll enjoy for keeping to the tale or something you don't like for cutting the story into small segments. As for Timon and Pumbaaa, there's two things to mention. 1. The Simba-appearing episodes, for those who wanna see him: "Congo on like this", "Shake your Dijbouti", and "Rome Alone". He makes cameos in other ones, but he speaks in these three episodes. He also makes cameos on "Gabon with the Wind" where Timon uses a cutout to lure Pumbaa into a trap and in "Zazu's off by one day off" inside a reflecting pool. Scar also makes a cameo in that one in Zazu's trash. 2. ONE moment hat's always lives rent-free in my head: In that romanian episode he mentioned with the vampire bats, Pumbaa reveals to Timon that the bats wanna eat them: "It says right here on this menu!" (Shows a menu called 'How to serve TImon & Pumbaa') "And look at this!" (Shows a card reading 'Now serving Timon & Pumbaa') "And ask them yourselves!" (He brings out the bats. Then after they explain, Pumbaa pulls Timon close.) "NOW DO YOU BELIEVE ME???"

Despite it strangely having the Disney Junior branding, 'The Lion Guard' *should not be considered to be a preschool series* , as it's actually something that 'The Lion King' fans of all ages can enjoy and, like Brian said in the video, it expands upon the 'The Lion King' lore and addresses how political relations between Simba and various animal groups that live in the Pride Lands work. To any 'TLK' fans out there who haven't watched 'The Lion Guard', I highly recommend watching it. It's 2nd & 3rd seasons are especially good. I won't spoil anything that happens in the 2nd & 3rd seasons(Brian unfortunately spoiled Scar's return as a floating head made of fire in the 2nd season), but I will say that crap hits the fan!

I know they are on Disney plus but I don't have that and not all of them like House of Mouse are on streaming. I have been able to look some stuff up on KZbin. Disney's renaissance era was just so cool and fun! Also would love more rankings like video sequels, maybe the movie soundtracks or something. Love what you've been coming out with, keep up the awesome work brian.❤❤😊

The two big changes of the lion king: 1. How Scar got his scar 2. Who the Outsiders were In Lion Guard Scar got his scar by being attacked by a snake who was with that strange lion who looked like Zira, leader of the Outsiders. But in the live action Mufasa movie, Scar got his scar after protecting Mufasa from Kiros the modern early leader of the Outsiders. In Lion King 2 & Lion Guard, the Outsiders are a pride of lions led by the lioness Zira who were banished for being loyal to the evil false king Scar. But in the Live Action Mufasa movie there was an Outsider lion pride lead by a male white lion Kiros where a pride of liobs formed after being hated and abandoned by their original prides. Zira's pride came during Simba's time as king whereas Kiro's pride came during the time before Mufasa became king

This is a very hot take but I actually like some of the The Lion King 2 songs better than their closest equivalent from the original Lion King. To be more precise, I prefer We Are One to I Just Can't Wait to Be King (by a hair) and I prefer Love Will Find a Way to Can You Feel the Love Tonight (by actually a wider margin).

It’s been a while since I saw “The Lion Guard”, and I haven’t seen the Mufasa film yet. However, all three of the hand-drawn animated Lion King films were quite honestly some of the most enjoyable movies I’ve ever watched, particularly on the grounds that they each have their own distinct qualities and traits to help them standout in the best way. The 2019 version of “The Lion King”, though…well, that’s one of my least favorite movies for a variety of reasons. My biggest gripe regarding the movie is that its narrative was too much like that of the 1994 version in a word-for-word kind of way, and despite having its own newly-created scenes, it didn’t provide anything even remotely new or significant. If they had just gone with a completely different narrative in general, that honestly would’ve helped the movie be worthwhile.

From what I heard, Kovu was originally planned to have been Scar's son. And the story was written with that in mind. That's why we have the whole storyline of Kovu being raised to "follow in Scar's pawprints". But then he meets Kiara, and he starts questioning everything he was taught. But then, somebody at Disney realised how icky it was that the story involved Kiara falling in love with her cousin. So they threw in a few lines stating that Scar only adopted Kovu, and hoped that fixed the problem. But as a result, the story seems kind of forced. And we just have to believe that Scar saw this random cub and thought, "yeah, you're my heir now". Scar has a massive ego, and it would make more sense if he'd prefer his heir to be his own blood offspring. And he has a lioness who is completely obsessed with him, so he could easily make that happen. But he decided he wants Kovu instead? Plus, Kovu's connection to Scar is a big part of the story. He spends a good amount of time convinced he has to avenge Scar's death and take back his kingdom. But that connection seems a bit weaker when we know Kovu is not Scar's son. I think that's why the story seems a little forced. Either Kovu is Scar's son, and it's gross. Or Kovu is not Scar's son, and things don't really make sense. The writers just really, REALLY wanted Kovu and Kiara to be together.

This is how i would rank The Lion King films that i've seen 4: Lion King 2019 (Absolutely hate this film. It completely forgot what made the original a classic) 3: Lion King 1½. When it focuses on Simbas life when he's growing up, it's not to bad. When it's trying to force Timon & Pumba into every scene from the original ,Lion King. I hate it 2: Lion King 2: Simbas Pride. It does rehash a lot of what we saw in the original film. But it follows more of a "Romeo & Juliet" storyline which i think makes it just different enough to make a good sequel to its predecessor 1: The Lion King: There's no reason to explain why this film is the better then all of them

I think the fact that TLG was made for preschoolers was a HUGE mistake and missed opprtunity. Like, did they somehow not realize most of the Lion King's fandom is teens and 90's kids? The original movie was enjoyable for all ages, so I don't get why the main show they make after wouldn't do the same. And yeah, Bunga being a walking fart joke was extremely annoying.

@doktorhyena I don't consider 'The Lion Guard' to be a preschool series, as, despite it strangely having the Disney Junior branding, it's actually something that 'The Lion King' fans of all ages can enjoy. It's really unfortunate that the series 'Jake And The Neverland Pirates' wasn't handled the same way, as, like 'The Lion Guard' does for the 'The Lion King' franchise, 'Jake And The Neverland Pirates' expands upon the lore of Disney's 'Peter Pan' franchise.

I agree, some of these are weird because I've never heard of lion king being used as a kids cartoon. Walt Disney used to say before he died "you're dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up anyway". So the thought of some of the franchise being used as preschool entertainment just sounds gross to me. Lion king is a cartoon made for audiences of all ages! Disney can have their few preschool versions of mickey mouse, but THIS doesn't sound right. Man, the animated lion king sequel is SO underrated! It's sad that people sometimes forget classic disney sequels like simba's pride and little mermaid 2: return to the sea. Cuz they're really good imo! I like your list!

The Timon and Pumbaa series is officially canon to the The Lion King Universe, because Disney confirmed it when they announced it back in 1995 after the film was released. In addition, Rob LaDuca who worked on season 1 for the show was the co-director of Simba’s Pride, and Ford Riley from Season 3 also worked on The Lion Guard. Last but not least, Kevin Schon who voiced Timon in season two and three of the show, reprised his role as Timon in The Lion Guard.

Great video Brian! I love your videos. While I’m not a huge lion king fan I do still like because I’m also an animal lover. I highly enjoy the lion guard I think it’s a good preschool show and like Brian said I love seeing more animals in the lion king universe elephants, giraffes, Zebra, Antelope, crocodiles. We also get see Simba being the king of the pride lands and talking to other animals. But like Brian said because it’s a preschool show and get a ground grade a-bit. But I still enjoy it. I’m not a big fan of the lion king 2 and I’m glad you said that the Romeo and Juliet story formally does get overused slot that’s how I feel when I watch this film. While I do think Zira is a good villain and I like the idea of Scar having other lion follows siding him is a good idea I don’t like the story told for this. I don’t really care for Kiara as a character. Kovu is a more interesting character but I feel like the massage the movie was trying to tell “we are one” would be a lot stronger if they stuck with the idea that Kovu is Scar’s son. In my opinion that idea could have worked if Kiara wasn’t in the movie. But as far as Disney direct to video sequels go it’s not the worst, but in my opinion there is better ones out there.

Cool to me my list I have set as the same except for the 2019 Lion King I don't care for it like you do I feel but I know I don't completely hate it with me being bias for Lions my all time favorite big cats and I feel bias for The Lion King I just know that for me. Me just not use to having the same old story again still can't stand it's be prepared but I'll accept it for what it is I just wish it had more orginal songs. The original is a number 1 that I tie with The Lion King 2 I always make my list that way. I enjoyed Mufasa The Lion King lots. Very great list to me Brian Hull!!!

I'd rank The Lion Guard a bit higher myself. It is definitely a preschool show and that does factor into its humor and general tone, but I thought it was fun and engaging the whole way through. Learning more about the Pridelands, getting to see how Simba performs his kingly duties and some of the lore expansions was really cool. This the kind of Lion King TV continuation that I would have absolutely loved when I was little, so that gives it a big edge for me. Its continuity is a bit shaky. I know that it takes place between Simba's Pride, but given both Kiara and Simba's personalities in The Lion Guard, it's hard to image the plot of the movie playing out exactly the same without Simba's own trauma, his overprotective nature or Kiara not being into becoming Queen. It still generally works, but it always felt a bit odd to me continuity wise. I liked Simba's Pride a bit more too. It has to do a bit of retcons to make the premise works, but I think it works pretty well and the songs are pretty solid. I agree with The Lion King original being number one though. I never watched the musical version, so I might try to do that one of these days.

Here’s my opinions on the Lion King franchise (excluding the original): 1. With the sequels, Simba’s Pride is the best in my opinion. Getting to go back to the Pride Lands and watching the circle of life continue after the end of Scar. And I loved the chemistry between Kiara and Kovu, two lions from completely different worlds but come together as one. 2. The Lion Guard was definitely at its best in the third season. Unlike the first two, it had a bit more mature content like as the way Kion gets his scar and showing the circle of life with the death of Queen Janna. And just like Kiara and Kovu, I liked the chemistry between Kion and Rani. 3. When I first saw Mufasa, I liked it. But now I feel conflicted about which storyline to believe, the Mufasa story or the continuation with Simba’s Pride and the Lion Guard. But overall, I give Mufasa a 7 out of 10. I’d put it higher if it wasn’t for the between scenes with Timon and Pumbaa, and for the record, I’m not too crazy about Seth Rogen playing Pumbaa.

Hot take: I would rank the Broadway musical higher than the original film. How it deepened how this renowned story was told - from the music, to the puppetry, to fleshing out characters more like Nala - outdoes it, IMO.

lol. I remember seeing Unbunglabelievable. And, I'm so happy that no everyone liked Bunga. The Lion Guard was neat and interesting, but the animation left a lot to be desired. LIon KIng 2019, it looked fun, but so souless. Timon and Pumba the series was..an acid trip. Reminded me of the Animaniacs

7. The Lion Guard(I'm just not a fan. I've only seen the pilot movie and I don't really like it) 6. The Lion King 2019(It's inherently difficult to get invested in this movie) 5. Mufasa: The Lion King(I can accept parts of this as canon, but the whole doesn't really work for me, specifically everything with Scar feeling super rushed and stupid) 4. The Lion King 1 and 1/2 3. The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride 2. The Lion King Broadway musical(A fabulous spectacle that brought me to tears during Circle of Life and it's wildly impressive to see and many of the added songs are very good) 1. The Lion King 1994

#1: Lion king #2: Lion king 2 #3: Lion king 1 1/2 #4: Lion Guard #5: Mufasa #6: Lion king remake The rest I haven't seen so therefore can't compare. From what I've heard they're too zany or too serious. They are ordered based on how canonical the media is i feel when watching them, as well as how much i enjoy myself. 1-4 How canonical i feel watching them, canonness determines my enjoyment for these animated ones 5-6 is based on enjoyment. The remake had too many flaws to be good, but i liked some elements it used like the photo-realism, and showing us what was happening in the pride lands while scar was king, and the sarabi being more of a character. The characters did lack expressions, the pacing felt a little rushed, and the plot line on being grown up felt forced. I did however like the new lines from scar and mufasa, it felt in line with the characters. Mufasa I feel i can enjoy more as it is an original story, the expressions were better, and some story choices made sense. Also, I liked three of the songs, they are so memorable to me. Lion guard I loved seeing how the pridelands kingdom actually ran, and I loved scar returning as a villain, and going all over the world. Of course, kion felt like a shoehorned character as they tried to fit in the second movie characters, it felt like predators were being denied a chance to eat, they were very catch phrasy, and they called on mufasa a lot, a little too much. 1 1/2 really felt like they just made a fanfic idea of "what if these characters were in these scenes," but it was so fun. Lion king 2 felt less canon because where was zira in the first movie, where was kovu in the first movie, who's his father? Felt added to do romeo and juliet, but it's a good story with memerable songs. Lion king is a classic, enough said.

I LOVE WILD ABOUT SAFETY! I ALWAYS keep it on loop at my Disney resort or even when I shower! LOL I've never seen Lion Guard stuff but will sometime! Find Out Why is great and I only know about it because a few were on Lion King 2's DVD! Festival of the Lion King is easily the best show in all of WDW! Yes I too wish we had a ride too! FOTLK is in my top 3, but it isn't my favorite favorite, but still very high! The 2019 Lion King is good, definitely not better than the original, but at least we got James Earl Jones one last time! The Timon and Pumbaa series is my childhood and I wanted the whole series on DVD growing up! At least we have Disney+! Lion King 2 I enjoy! I think it's almost up there with the original (not better), but it is one of the better direct-to-video sequels (most of which I usually enjoyed)! Mufasa: The Lion King was very creative and I liked what they tried to do, you can tell Barry Jenkins LOVES Lion King and he put his heart into it! Lion King 1 1/2 is a WONDERFUL movie and I like it as much if not better than the original! Not saying it is, but who didn't want a Timon and Pumbaa movie?! The musical I've seen 4 times and I will NEVER not see it! I've not been to NYC, but when it comes around, I'm there! The original movie can NEVER be topped no question, but I know this is a movie we all repeatedly watched nonstop!

While I do agree with the whole preschool demographic for the Lion Guard, in my opinion, I really like the Lion Guard. Especially Season 3, we really got a nice lore and I love how the show corresponds with the Lion King 2 and how the Lion Guard became a part of it. The music in TLG is also pretty good too. However I love the original and the Lion King 2 so much more.

In my personal opinion, The Lion Guard shouldn’t have been rated TV-Y, I mean yea it has some “moments” where it’s a bit childish, but there’s a pretty good chunk of fighting in the show and even a slight glimpse of blood in one. In my own opinion it should have been at least Y7, G at most.
