You should do songs to the tune of other songs. Like "We Don't Talk About Bruno" to the tune of "For the First Time in Forever", and just do it randomly like you do for these. That way you have more options and get more variety.

Okay but why do the lyrics for Into The Unknown actually work really well in metal? I’m not really into metal and I didn’t really vibe with the track they used, but with a different track and a singer who actually sings metal normally I think it could work really well.

Whitney Avalon did a cover of it with Powerglove! It gave it more a emo feel. I'm not much into metal myself, but the darker vibe seemed to match the inner conflict better (if that makes sense)
