As someone who's interested in voice acting as a potential career, it was really nice getting to hear all of this. Most of my anxiety I get whenever I think about this comes from the fact that I have no idea what goes on behind the mic, so hearing this was super helpful! Keep up the great work, Brian!

I knew about the voice acting coming before the animation. I learned that from a behind the scenes featurette for a series of animated adaptations of the Book of Mormon. Richard Rich directed them. Some of the team behind those cartoons would later go on to do The Swan Princess.

I wanted to go that path tha Brian has. In university we had the recording booth and everything, we did a couple thigs there, proved how my voice worked and how it didn't, all that stuff. But, I graduated, there's no job in that kind of area in my country at least (Colombia), and I'm probably headed towards the hell-hole that is a call center. So... I'm happy for you Brian, happy that you get to live that :D

Thanks for sharing these experiences Brian!! I've always had so much respect for people who have the natural talent to be fantastic voice actors and acting in general. Your talent is unreal and I can tell how very humble you are. I hope you continue to find success in your career and wish you nothing but the best with the new opportunities I'm sure will come your way!

The thing you talked about with recording Tangled The Series reminds me of a fun fact I heard about in Harry Potter. When Hermione uses the polyjuice potion to turn into Bellatrix, Emma Watson actually played the scene out first so that Helena Bonham Carter to imitate her movements, so to make it super confusing, lol, it was actually Helena Bonham Carter playing Emma Watson playing Hermione Granger playing Bellatrix Lestrange, haha

Hey Brian! As a fellow voice actor named ‘Brian,’ I hear you and I feel your VO pain! I’ve been a voice actor for about 20 years and there are some things you never get used to. Then ’silence’ after a take is THE worst. Watching them chat amongst themselves as you wait…and wait…until they find some kind way to break it to you. “Umm, yeah, that was great, but…” Keep up the great work!

Brian, I have been working as a vet tech in specialty medicine for 15 + years, same clinic, same department, mostly the same doctors. I am sure that tomorrow someone will come to be and say “Steph, we need someone with a larger knowledge base. Thank you for your time”. Hasn’t happened yet.

Voice acting is a very interesting process! When I watch animated films, TV shows, and video games, I just wonder what it’s like for the actors and how many takes they have to do to get the voice lines right. It’s so fascinating. I wish I could be a professional VA.

This is such great info to learn about when you go into voice acting. I know I would probably get super nervous if I voice actor for a movie or a show...but I usually do voice acting in my own animated shorts. Fun story, the voice of Bash for my animated short films on my channel admitted that he was nervous about recording lines for Bash and it turns out that his voice director (me) is also a nervous wreck, especially sending the script to him after I finish it. 😂 I'm glad that people who work with voice acting are pretty chill people.

None of this was a surprise to me... also... live action is WAY different than animation. They actually are that stressed because often times they only have so much time with the space to film in and have to get everything done in that amount of time. If there's big practical stunts involved they can't do multiple takes so they have to get the shot right on the first try. Animation is really the most chill because you have a lot more freedom to do multiple takes. You don't have to worry as much if someone screws up a line. Live performances are the WORST. I've done theater and pretty much all my free time back stage is spent going over lines for the next scene because no matter how many times I do it I'm always terrified I'm going to forget something and ruin the show. And that's especially terrifying when I actually suffer from mental health problems that make my memory like Swiss cheese. I never even thought I could even do theater because my memory is that bad but some how I did it.
