I've had mine two days and I love it. As my first mechanic taught me "A vehicle is a tool" I have a 97 F350, 85 Alfa Romeo Spider and a 76 BMW R90/6. They all have their purpose. The Prius is the go to for everyday driving. Fuel economy is outstanding and the ride is very good.

@@realilty We rarely drive our Prime in Hybrid Mode, it's almost always in EV Mode. However, starting with a full charge and tank, we can comfortably drive all the way across our 617 mile wide island. That would equal around 58mpg. Keep in mind, ours is a 2024 Prime SE. So, it has a (slightly), lower weight and, the 17" wheels (with Aero-Wheel Caps). The Prime SE is the most fuel efficient of all the models.

Brian understates fuel efficiency. Normal driving on my 2024 XLE FWD yields a minimum of 48 mpg for short 4-5 mile drives, and always over 55 mpg for > 7 mile drives. Getting over 60 mpg is common for longer drives!

I’ve heard people complain about the speedo being offset to the right in the previous gen Prius. To me it’s perfect. I hate having to adjust my steering wheel to see the gauges. My wife has a ‘21 Prime because she was commuting to Colorado from Dallas 3 times a month. It’s a goofy ass looking car, but, man, it’s really good at doing what it’s supposed to do. We’ll never not have a Prius in the stable.

Simply lowering steering wheel allows a full unobstructed view of instrument cluster info. And that lower position feels perfect to me in terms of arm position for steering vehicle. So test it out for yourself; don’t assume there’s a real problem at all. Also, if you’ve driven prior generations of Prius, you’ll find this Prius to be incredibly powerful by comparison. No one needs to accelerate faster than the zero-60 in 7.1 seconds this Prius does.
@TomLawlor-iq6gm

I don't get those who complain about the steering wheel blocking the cluster. My wife is 5'9", I'm 5'11". Neither of us has any issue with seeing the gauges. And, we each enjoy perfect comfort behind the wheel. Most of those who complain about this "issue" have the seat reclined like a GD beach chair. Your supposed to sit-up when driving. The regular Prius does 0-60 in 7.1. The Prime (223hp), will cover the same distance in 6.48. Have had the new car for six months now, neither of us has fallen to the temptation..............yet.

I've read there isn't much difference between the AWD LE and, say, the nightshade AWD, but then in general I'm reading that 17in wheels are better in snow because of the sidewall height. Spare tires. The Dodo bird of the 2020's. Why? We don't all live in the city, and not every flat is repairable with a kit. A family member waited 3 hours on the side of I-5 waiting for a tow while in a major metro area. I don't always have cell coverage where we drive. Why not run-flats? I know they have some issues and not sure if they ever made any lower rolling resistance flavors. Aside from that, quite an engineered package. Maybe someday, they will make one a bit more fun in the handling and dynamics department, even if you give up a few mpg.

Toyota already makes one. Our 2024 Prime is a blast to drive on our twisty roads. With a heavy battery (adding 300lbs over the regular model), that sits low in the rear and boosting hp up to 223, this thing is quick and very responsive. With the 17" wheels the 0-60 time drops down to 6.48 seconds. The torque from the electric motors is instant so in Sport Mode, it's impressive. And, the car has even better milage. We have gotten 91Km (56+m), in EV Mode along with 62mpg in Hybrid Mode (when not driving like a savage). We got a $5,000 rebate with ours, virtually wiping out the extra cost of the Prime. In fact, in some Canadian provinces the rebate is so large (up to $8,500), it actually makes a Prime less expensive than the regular Prius. So, you'd be mental not to opt for the Prime. This is our third Prius but first PHEV version. We'll never go back to the non-Prime. BTW, Toyota can furnish a Spare Tire Kit for the regular Prius. It includes a full sized tire/wheel, lug wrench, jack, modified foam inserts and, a protective cover to place over an electrical junction that sits in the space where the tire is stowed. Sadly, it will not fit in a Prime, the battery takes up all the room under the floor. We plan to buy a set of winter tires in a 215-60 16" with matching wheels to replace the OEM 195-60 R17 (nobody makes a winter grip in that size). We'll just shove one in back when doing road trips. Not ideal, but it's a spare.

Lmao 40 is not okay for a Prius. I get 62 out of my 2022 at the cost of getting there a little slower

The Prius used be forward design and a utility hatchback. Now it's a slopey little buzz car. IT is not at all the same car. And I don't like IT.

Completely overhyped! I owned the previous gen prime and I loved that car for how roomy and comfortable it was. I sold it only due to engine performance. But the new gen has barely any headroom, I could barely get into the car and I’m not tall nor a big guy, my height is 5’10”. To make matters worse those greedy Toyota dealerships were charging markups including bogus packages. I don’t understand how a group of talented and highly paid people didn’t catch this issue.

Toyota did a terrible job with the ergonomics of the thing--the impossibility of seeing the instrument pod using anything other than a very awkward steering wheel position was a show-stopper for me. The glare (your were the only reviewer who mentioned this) only adds to my concerns. Thanks for a great review, though.

Yeah, adjusting the steering wheel is a deal breaker for some! 😂 love my 2024 XLE Prius 52-56 mpg average

Lowering the steering wheel eliminates any dash viewing problem. And that lowered steering wheel position is comfortable. It shouldn’t be a deal breaker for anyone.

Such a bad design with gauges, that engineer should be fired.

Terrible car. The only reason anybody is praising the car is pretty much of the design. It looks good and so everyone wants to hype up everything else to justify their purchase

Hype-up the car ? Our Prime is six months old and we have not burned two tanks of gas after 5,375 miles (8,600 Km). It handles like a dream, is very comfortable and the thing will stop itself if a pedestrian walks in front (or back ), of you. Oh, ya, it will get to 60mph in 6.48 seconds. Everyone really hates it when someone talks about something they know squat about.

Getting 52 mpgs without having to charge the vehicle, good acceleration, and great looks, is hardly terrible.
